A common consensus amongst the average person is that you cannot be happy doing things on your own and that you must have others around you to truly be satisfied with life. Do you believe this is true? Why or why not?

As a mature human I don't think we need other humans to be happy but we do need other animals of some sort. Humans placed in isolation will even create "others" within themselves. (multiple personalities) That's some pretty strong evidence that humans need others when we'll create them in our imagination when no others are available.

Happiness comes from yourself because surrounding yourself with other individuals doesn't automatically "make" you happy. The only person who can "make" you happy is yourself. You can be happy enjoying a number of things that don't include people if you have the right mindset.

Absolutely but this does depend heavily on your personality type. An extroverted person can go into a deep depression if they are deprived of social interaction with others while an introverted person may be fine living in total solitude. I've also heard vegans refer to animals as others. If animals are included as "others" then I'm not sure if even an introvert would be satisfied living in total isolation from all living creatures.

I don't think it has anything to do with being extroverted. I can be social and enjoy my quiet time. The reality is some people are more needy and weak than others and need others to fill up the time because many of them don't love themselves and dread being around themselves for long. So they go from relationship to relationship, have kids, pets, or whatever else. When people don't subscribe to that life they tell THOSE people they are unhappy while pushing the costs of their decisions onto them. It's seen all of the time with kids especially or even pets.

Speaking about others, why did you close the other thread when nobody else had a chance to respond to our posts? There are other members of this forum aren't there?

To keep from repeating the same thing over and over and over and over again. Was tempted to leave it open but it was going nowhere and it was a waste of my productive time. It might have had more responses but others viewed it and said nothing, so it doesn't matter.
Let's get back on topic.

To get back on topic and answer the question that you asked specifically, no some people resent others and would love to be by themselves indefinitely. These people may not be the majority but you didn't ask about the majority.

Do you mean resent others in general or some specific people?
People who like to do their own thing in most cases just like doing things on their own. They find satisfaction doing things that way and don't require others to meet those ends.

The question that you asked at the beginning queried about whether someone can be truly satisfied without having others around. If a person resents others in general and wish they where isolated from others, it sort of goes without saying that if they could have their way then they would do everything by themselves. Some people don't only resent others, they loathe them and they do live isolated lives where they support themselves without any interference from others. I'd imagine that they place warnings up to prevent anyone from disturbing their solitude. At least I hope they do.
As far as people doing their own thing I really don't see what other choice they have. To each their own, right? Nobody can live someone else's life for them.

I imagine there are some people who do feel that way but you are implying that a person who wants to do their own thing that they must loathe people. Having people around doesn't mean you're happy or like people. Most people are really just needy and not introspective and want an escape from that. My problem is when people in that camp think that anybody in the other camp has something wrong with them for not "fitting" in.

People fear what they don't understand. Given that knowledge you're probably better off being successful and feared than a well understood failure. They say that it's lonely at the top. If your personality allows you to be comfortable at the top rather than lonely then I'd say take advantage of that, for most people don't like to be alone. No matter what you do people will criticize. Fuck em.
