nichegamer.com/2016/01/73sony-is-trying-to-trademark-lets-play402/If they successfully trademark it what does this mean for people using "Let's Play" in their title? What does this mean for Roosterteeth who have a channel called "Lets Play"? What does this mean for people who add "Plays" to their videos like "MGNoxa Plays" or "Kinda Funny Plays"? The biggest question is how would this affect YouTube Playthroughs? Will it be a simple name change that people start using or will Sony somehow be able to claim that anybody doing a playthrough infringes their rights? Playthroughs of video games are in a grey area when it comes to the legality because there's only so much the company can claim they own. like the cutscenes or sounds in the game but when the player puts their voice on the game and uses their own gameplay it becomes a weird legal grey area that no one has really investigated because right now the people making the videos sell the games for free and sometimes make tons of money but as a result the Devs/Pubs make more money because more people will buy the game. Just look at PewDiePie (can't stand him) whenever he plays a game the next the sales for that game go up, when played Skate 3 several years after release EA suddenly had to start reprinting copies of it because it came back into demand. Your thoughts on this? Any repercussions or will we just see a name change from YouTube Let's Players? Seems too generic of a term for it to work.

What are some you can think of? It's quite unusual. Well I know in the UK Cadbury were able to copyright their own colour. Not a trademark but still something that you wouldn't think was possible. Laws are different over there. Not sure how they'll handle American copyright and things like that with this here if they did it.
