"The strangling of 35-year-old American expat artist Ashley Olsen may have been kinky sex gone wrong, Italian media reports revealed Wednesday.
Olsen’s naked body was found bruised and scratched Saturday in her Florence studio apartment, and autopsy tests later showed she had been strangled with a rope or cord.
Investigators believe Olsen was either semi-comatose and unable to resist her attacker or choked to death in an erotic game that went too far, English-language outlet The Local reported.
The American artist was last seen early Friday after a nightclub outing.
Italian media said that police had arrested a 25-year-old Senegalese man involved in the local drug scene after surveying video footage from street cameras around the club that showed him with the victim.

Ashley Olsen, 35, was found dead in her Florence apartment Saturday. An autopsy later revealed she had been strangled.
There were no signs of a struggle at Olsen's apartment, but she had mentioned she had a stalker in Instagram posts from October.
Police say that there was DNA evidence in the apartment that pointed to the unidentified man arrested Wednesday.
The lead prosecutor in the case declined to comment, and police have said they aren’t allowed to discuss the murder during the investigation.
Olsen, who is from Summer Haven, Fla., had moved to Florence three years ago to join her father, Walter Olsen, a Renaissance art professor.
Her father released a statement Tuesday calling her “a beautiful and creative young woman, with a happy, exuberant and generous soul.”
Police investigate the scene following Olsen's death. A man believed to be shown in security camera footage with her the night of her death is now the primary suspect in the murder case.
“We are devastated that our precious Ashley has passed away resulting from a horrible and senseless crime,” Olsen said. “We are heartbroken she was taken from us.”
He asked for his family to be allowed to grieve in peace and said he has “faith that the perpetrator will be found and sentenced.”
One of her friends, who asked CBS News to identify her only by the name Amy, told the TV station she couldn’t believe Olsen had been murdered.
“I can't imagine a person who would hurt her, she is a gentle, a kind, a beautiful, friendly, lovely girl and it's an awful shock,” Amy said. “We've got a great community here of people, and everyone loved her.”"
