Hell even if we got CvS 2 on Steam that would be good enough. www.eventhubs.com/news/2016/jan/22/ono-capcom-vs-snk-3-we-would-do-exact-same-thing-we-did-darkstalkers-gauge-interest-new-game/Back in 2013, Capcom released Darkstalkers Resurrection to gauge interest from the community about how likely they would be to buy a new entry in the franchise.
At the time, there was a bit of a demand created on various websites and at conventions.
"Secretly, we believed that a silent majority wanted a Darkstalkers sequel," Ono told Playboy magazine recently.
Unfortunately, sales for Darkstalkers Resurrection didn't live up to expectations, and things have gone very quiet in regards to a fourth entry in the franchise since that time. "People are asking for new Rival Schools or Capcom vs. SNK 3 and these people have a very loud voice," Ono noted.
Referring back to past experiences, Yoshinori said he would take the same route again as they did with Darkstalkers, in regards to these new titles.
"I would do the exact same thing again to gauge interest to see whether or not people actually care. Are they passionate? Do they really want a new title?
"At the end of the day, we want to make sure we have a robust community," he said.
Based on Ono's statements, it appears fans of Capcom vs. SNK and Rival Schools will have opportunities to show those past games some love, and if that interest is strong enough, you may see new entries.
This is just a small portion of the interview Ono did with Playboy magazine, you can hop the link to check the entire piece out.

As far as gaining interest in new installments goes, they'd be better off not even using re-releases to decide whether or not they should make an installment. Kickstarter would honestly be a far better choice to show there is interest and give them proper chances of them being created like Mighty NO.9, Yooka-Laylee, Carmageddon Reincarnation, & Shenmue III for some examples. Money is the real voice over comments.

If I do a kickstarter I might get nothing, but if I get a great game like CvS 2 it's a deal. Also people might like the game but not want to do a kickstarter because they are uncertain of how it will turn out. Also kickstarters are better when the company is small IMO. If Capcom did it they could just claim Capcom is "greedy" since they have money compared to a small company.

Despite if there are risks or there is less reward, but what does Capcom have left at this point to afford making another installment that isn't Street Fighter or Resident Evil especially games that only the people who even played these games like CVS, Vampire Hunter/Darkstalkers, & Rival Schools are only just hoping for a revival, would Capcom be happy with modest success or wants to bring in very high profits? Just doing rereleases to determine on making another installment doesn't have the same guarantee chances on giving them new installments.
Yes kickstarter is uncertain on how it will turn out, but unless there is a far better option where its 100% certain to a point where the game actually gets made. These people may not have any options for their wishes to ever come true, if they aren't willing to give support to what they want (even if chances are uncertain) they might as well take their wishes and burn it until it becomes ashes. The only thing that will be going on is Capcom and/or fans are just going to be sitting around just talking about false hopes or dreams that will never happen in reality maybe not even get pass green lighting.

I definitely agree that Capcom is tight on money but people still see them as a "big" company. They are bigger than your typical small studio but they are tight on money. Nothing is a guarantee in business but they want to test and see if people like it. I mean Darkstalkers is a fun game but it was always very niche. Years ago we had two diehard Darkstalkers fans who were saying it's more popular than Marvel vs Capcom which isn't true. They don't want to go by some diehard fans on a messageboard and then lose money. Capcom vs SNK 2 is very popular though and has no online option. That is something many people have wanted for some time. 3s OE sold very well and SF2 with online play did as well. Darkstalksers Resurrection was an arcade port that didn't do well. I mean I'd love a new Darkstalkers and a CvS3 myself, but I can understand why they want to gauge interest. I would definitely buy a CvS2 online. It would probably be better than CvS3 lol. They don't want bank a huge amount of money on a vocal minority is all.

While Capcom is a bigger company, but for how long once SFV gets release or if Capcom can't even afford something like CvS2 not even a Tatsunoko vs Capcom maybe worst can't even make anything? (which got Eventhubs talking about a TVC when DOA5 just had trailer for Tatsunoko DLC costumes)
While testing and see if people like it is the best way to see if there is interest, however doing the rerelease like they did with Vampire Hunter/Darkstalkers is not the way to go assuming outside of diehard fans or FGC how many people would buy it just so a new installment gets made. Even if they were do it again, how much would Capcom want in order for that installment to get made. Banking a huge amount on the minority/diehards is obviously would not be a good move.
While yes CVS2 is very popular, but how popular was it when CVS2 was released on PSN which is just a PS2 classics which didn't have something like SSFIIHD, SF3 OE, or Darkstalker Resurrection? What if Capcom decides not going for a Online Edition?

Who knows it depends on their financial situation at that point. SFV is pretty much a guaranteed seller unless they drop the ball hard. It doesn't seem like that will be the case though. I don't think it's just to see a new game. People like Marvel, CvS2, 3sOE. These are legendary games with online play which is what people like which make it more a secure investment than Darkstalkers which has never been a big seller. If they do no online that would be extremely stupid and they deserve to burn lol. What would be the point in today's time? Not to mention with Kof going to 3d models the timing is right.
