I imagine only a very small percentage of pc gamers overclock their cpu but i think its because they intentionally remove overclocking from non k processors something you could do for years with no issues is whats causing the backlash. Especially since its a software update that would just crash your system regardless if the overclock was stable before the update.

Large percentage have done this. Just using the G3258 as an example, when overclocked, it would give similar dual core performance as an overclocked 3770k. So most budget gaming builds were using the G3258.

So most budget gaming builds were using the G3258. I think enthusiast gamers do overclock more often. Just not out of the general population. If you buy a budget build you pretty much have to though. I tend to just get the better parts myself.

The better part will be the smart move in the long run. Especially if things like this happen.
I used the G3258 for an emulator build. It was a good economical chip.

Another option is to sli two slightly cheaper cards around mid tier or so. That works very well.
