Koei Tecmo Has No Plans to Port Berserk to Xbox One
Koei Tecmo surprised many by porting Arslan: The Warriors of Legend and Attack on Titan to Xbox One for the west. Apparently, this won’t be the case for Berserk and the Band of the Hawk.
Speaking to DualShockers, Producer Hisashi Koinuma explained that the company currently has no plans to release an Xbox One version for the west.

Watch Berserk and the Band of the Hawk on PS4 in 8 Minutes of Ultra-Violent Direct Feed Gameplay
A demo of Berserk and the Band of the Hawk is playable on the show floor at Tokyo Game Show, and Koei Tecmo kindly allowed DualShockers to record a playthrough.
The footage below has been captured with the best quality allowed by our Elgato hardware directly from a PS4, to give you the best possible idea of the video quality of the game. Of course, keep in mind that YouTube adds a degree of compression.
The game is actually quite a lot of fun, showcasing its Musou roots with a twist, and swinging around Guts’ massive sword really feels like it has a brutal impact thanks to the quality of the animations. Yet, the demo only scratches the surface, so there will be a lot more to see.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Berserk and The Band of The Hawk on PS4 Runs at 30 FPS; PS4 Is Lead Development Platform
Berserk and The Band of The Hawk will release on a whole bunch of platforms, including PS4, PS3, PS Vita and PC (but not Xbox One), and DualShockers was able to ask about performance during a chat with Producer Hisashi Koinuma.
First of all, we learn that PS4 will run the game at 30 FPS, like all consoles, but frame rate settings on PC are still undecided.
We also hear that the PS4 is the lead development platform, as the team is working on the game with the specs of Sony’s latest console in mind, and then porting it to PS3 and PS Vita, contrary to what has been done in some cases in the past.
Asked about whether the team would do something to support the additional power of PS4 Pro, Koinuma-san mentioned that at this point the team hasn’t heard specific details from Sony on what they can do to support the new console, so they can’t yet answer about it, beyond the basic fact that the game will work on PS4 Pro.
Incidentally, this is an answer I heard from quite a few developers at Tokyo Game Show.

Berserk’s Brutal PS4 Gameplay Shows New Stages, Zodd’s Transformation, Anime Cutscenes and Much More
During a livestream from Tokyo Game Show, Berserk and the Band of the Hawk producer Hisashi Koinuma showcased a large chunk of gameplay of the upcoming title.
The live gameplay, that included content never seen before, and not showcased in the demo that was playable on the show floor had quite a few stages that will prove familiars to fans of the genre.
On top of that, it showcased a glimpse on te game’s anime cutscenes, and on Zodd’s gameplay, including his transformation.

Here are extra footages of TGS16 of Berserk & some details:
Overview:
Berserk and the Band of the Hawk follows the compelling tale of the famed mercenary group The Band of the Hawk, focusing on its diverse cast of characters and their struggles as they fight to achieve their dream of owning a kingdom. Berserk fans and newcomers alike will experience the series’ popular Golden Age story arc, which depicts the meeting between the leader of The Band of the Hawk, Griffith, and the legendary Black Swordsman, Guts, through to the gripping Falcon of the Millennium Empire arc, in which players will experience the group’s most brutal and devastating battles against humans and demons alike.
As an interesting little side note, during the stage event, Yosuke Hayashi mentioned that they did what they could to keep the game at a CERO D rating, but due to the graphics of the PS4, they couldn’t help but make it look more realistic with the gore, which they got in a little trouble for doing.

Berserk and the Band of the Hawk details Femto, Infinite Eclipse Mode, strengthening, and Behelit collecting Koei Tecmo has shared the latest information on Berserk and the Band of the Hawk, including details on the newly confirmed playable Femto, the Infinite Eclipse sub-mode, character strengthening, and collecting Behelits. ■ Characters Femto, Griffith’s reincarnation as the God Hand, is playable in Berserk and the Band of the Hawk by using the “Transformation Action” while playing as as Griffith. Femto (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai) On the Eclipse, Griffith sacrifices his allies from the Band of the Hawk and is reincarnated as the fifth God Hand. Femto battles by manipulating space. He can hit an enemy by ripping through space, or even warp space to pull in an enemy and send them flying. ■ System Infinite Eclipse Mode A mode where you do nothing but beat down enemies. In it, you’ll achieve a variety of missions that occur during battle while defeating oncoming enemies one after another. Strengthening In Berserk and the Band of the Hawk, you’ll get to power up characters through equipment. Equipment consists of accessories used to increase character abilities, usable items that support in battle, and battle horses used for transportation. Accessories and usable items can be purchased at the shops before battle. Again, you’ll get to use materials to upgrade capabilities and skills of accessories. You can also combine accessories to make even stronger ones as well. Behelit Collecting The “Behelit Collection” is a feature that adds a little extra bonus to the gameplay. By meeting certain conditions in battle, or by defeating powerful enemies in the Infinity Eclipse, you’ll get Behelits. By obtaining these, you’ll unlock special images. The Behelits unlock parts of images, and once you unlock all the parts, you’ll get to check out the image. Think of it as a StreetPass gallery, but instead of getting pieces by meeting people with StreetPass, you get them by slaughtering enemies in Berserk. Berserk and the Band of the Hawk Interview: Producer Talks Gameplay, Frame Rate, Violence and More
At Tokyo Game Show, DualShockers had a chance to chat with Producer Hisashi Koinuma, asking him about several aspects of the game and of its development.
Giuseppe Nelva: Last year I asked you about the possibility of a game based on Berserk, and you kind of smiled and answered that you’d rather do one on Star Wars. Did you already know about this title back then?
Hisashi Koinuma: It was a standing interview at the booth right?
G: Exactly.
HK: Yes, I already knew back then, but I couldn’t say anything.
G: Let’s get into the serious questions: You announced quite a few playable characters by now. Have all the playable characters been revealed now, or there are more?
HK: There are eight playable characters that we announced, and that will be all.
G: Sony just announced the PS4 Pro, and I was wondering if you’re looking into doing any special adjustments to use the additional power of the console?
HK: Actually, at this point we haven’t really heard details on what we can do for the Pro from Sony, so we’re unable to answer that question.
The game will work on the Pro, but at this point we don’t know if we’ll do something specific for it.
G: How much input does Miura-sensei give on the game?
HK: In addition to Miura-sensei and the people at the manga publisher, the also is the production committee from the anime as well, and all those do provide input for the game, and they are checking the contents.
G: Recently, you mentioned that you were considering introducing in the western version some of the elements that were left out due to rating regulations in Japan. Has that been finalized? And do you have any more details on what it will entail?
HK: Due to the high quality visuals of the PS4, we had to hold back with the depiction of the violence in the Japanese version to meet rating standard. In terms of what can be put back into the overseas edition, it hasn’t been decided yet.
With the visual level of the PS3 we would probably be able to get away with some of it, but with the PS4 being a lot more sharper and clearer, whatever we depict will be a lot more clearer, so in terms of the level violence, we’re really sort of taking it to the maximum without overstepping any boundaries, and for the overseas ratings too we have probably hit that maximum.
So initially we thought that maybe we could introduce in the west what we took out, but we’re finding that we have really hit the levels of violence that are on the borderline. We don’t really know if we can put that back in, and if it would be ok for an overseas release. It’s something that we’re looking into right now.
At this point we can’t really say. The situation from that previous interview has changed, and we’re not so sure what we can re-introduce, or if we’ll be able to re-introduce things for the western version.
G: Koei Tecmo released Attack on Titan and Arslan: The Warriors of Legend for Xbox One exclusively for the west, but Berserk did not get the same treatment. Is there a possibility for a PS4 version down the line?
HK: Currently we don’t have any plans for an Xbox One version.
G: Koei Tecmo is one of the few publishers that is still supporting the PS3 quite extensively. How long do you think the support for Sony’s older platform is going to continue? Many feel that having to support the PS3 as well holds the PS4 version back.
HK: We do have some titles that don’t have a PS3 version. For example NiOh is a PS4 exclusive. But in Japan a lot of the anime fans tend to still be PS3 users, even if we won’t release a packaged game we will still release a download-only version.
That said, when we develop the game, we’re developing it with the PS4 version in mind. We make sure that it’s PS4 quality, and then have it also work on Vita and PS3.
In the past we created the PS3 version first, and then upgraded it for PS4, but now development is on PS4, and then it’s ported to the other platforms.
G: Will the game run at 60 frames per second or 30 on PS4?
HK: It will be 30 on all platforms.
G: What about PC?
HK: We don’t know yet.
G: This is a Musou game, but I feel that it’s not exactly the same as the original Musou formula. Could you go more in-depth on the differences?
HK: The game is based on the Musou games, so that’s in common, but there are special attacks, sub-weapons, and transformations for the characters that are made specifically for Berserk. Those are elements that are added specifically to match the story and the world of Berserk, but at the base it’s really similar to a traditional Musou game.
G: In Attack on Titan, at the beginning you couldn’t choose a character, but then you were given more freedom as the story progressed. How will Berserk work?
HK: Basically, since the main character of Berserk is Guts, you play the game mostly as him. As you meet the other characters and they become part of the story, then you’ll be able to start selecting them, but in terms of the main battles, it will be Guts.
G: I didn’t hear anything about multiplayer features for the game. In Attack on Titan co-op was added post launch. Is there any plan to do anything similar with Berserk?
HK: Since the core story is really about Guts, we don’t have any plans for multiplayer.
G: Koei Tecmo games normally have a solid support after release, with DLC and additional content. Do you plan to do the same with Berserk?
HK: For this title there probably won’t be too many DLC. There will be some additional content, but not that much. Possibly it will be costumes, outfits, maybe additional stages, and possibly horses, but we’re not thinking about too many.
G: Have we seen everything there is to see about the game by now, or there are more surprises to come in terms of features?
HK: In terms of the information released, there is a little bit of lag between Japan and the west, but in terms of what has been announced in Japan, at TGS we have the playable version of Berserk for the first time, but we have pretty much covered all the information about the game.
G: The game has been delayed in Japan by a couple of months. What did this additional time allow you to accomplish?
HK: Most of the time was used in improving the overall quality of the game, and we also touched on the rating issues, as we had to do some adjustments to meet the rating standards for Japan.
G: You mentioned that the game runs at 30 frames per second. Is that stable, or we should expect frame rate dips here and there?
HK: It is pretty much stable. Maybe when you’re doing the most flashy super moves there might be a slight lag, but overall it’s pretty stable, so players should be able to play without issues.

The video shows main protagonist Guts in a full mission of gameplay. This gives players a preview of the variety of attacks that can be used to take down enemy forces. Some of these attacks include, throwing knives at multiple enemies and guard breaks.
Like most games in the genre the button configuration is quiet simple using mostly combinations of Square and Triangle to pull off some amazing looking attacks.

Berserk and the Band of the Hawk Gets New English Trailers and Screenshots; Bonuses Announced Today Koei Tecmo sent in a press release including new assets and info about the western release of Berserk and the Band of the Hawk. First of all, we get some info on combat. A lone mercenary and the series’ main protagonist, Guts wields an impressive array of powerful weapons to choose from, and each alters the pace of gameplay. For example, utilising his massive Dragonslayer Great Sword allows for devastating attacks, and players will subsequently feel the weight of the weapon throughout battle. Similarly, players can enjoy customised playstyles tailored to the other playable characters, like Griffith’s rapid sword attacks and Schierke’s magical powers. Utilising a vast array of different weapon styles, players will slash and smash their way through gripping battles in Berserk and the Band of the Hawk. Attacks become more ferocious as a fight rages on, allowing players to smash monsters against walls or slash them in two with a single strike! However, during the course of his adventures Guts encounters creatures known as Apostles – giant demonic monsters that possess deadly attacks. Unlike other enemies, typical battle strategies will not work on these beasts, and players must make swift tactical decisions in order to take them down. These exciting sequences aim to perfectly capture the tense, action-packed style of Berserk. We also get the announcement of the pre-order bonuses. A set of bonus downloadable content is available to those who pre-order Berserk and the Band of the Hawk in the form of six stylish costumes. These include the White Swordsman and Golden Swordsman costumes for Guts, allowing him to switch out his famous Black Swordsman costume for a fresh look, the Golden Hawk and Black Hawk costumes for Griffith, replacing his bright white outfit for darker shades, and the Pirate and Blue Stripe costumes for Schierke, switching her dark robes for a more cheerful design. While the European press release did not include further details, the North American one mentioned that the bonuses will be available at Amazon, Best Buy, EB Games, and GameStop. Last, but not least, below you can see a new gallery of screenshots (showcasing the bonus costumes, boss fights and environments) and three new trailers. Source: dualshockers
