Harem Anime Too Generic?

It can't just be me can it? The harem genre just feels more cliche' and lazier than ever before. It seems like there's no effort put into it and it just feels contrived.

It's the same pussy-whipped male with a bunch of females including the shy one, the nice one, and the all so popular tsundere type.

Does anybody else feel like it's been done to death at this point?

I find alot of anime in general to be like this or at least the ones everybody is watching. I haven't watched anime actively outside a few series since 11-12 so I could be wrong.

Yea it's definitely a trend in anime, but I feel the harem genre is the most generic and done to death. I still haven't seen much of a male lead who wasn't a wimp. I have seen some fight but they still end up being wimps otherwise and it has the same kind of girls too.

The fighting ones are super generic as well. But, yeah. Like I just can't get into these shows anymore and I even forced myself to watch them to. Just not into them anymore.

I find that some can have more neat characters or personality at least in some genres. I don't know you get some good stuff sometimes. There's just so much anime you have to wade through it. Western stuff just takes the same characters and keeps using them so it's a different style altogether.

Yeah, it's rare to have characters that have been around for decades like Batman, Luke Skywalker or Mickey Mouse. Seems every five years there's a new hit anime with completely different characters and what not.

Some of the long runners like Simpsons have been around so long with so many writers that they end up just re-doing their old stories often by accident since there are so many episodes.

Anime has so many flavors they start to seem alike. It just seems that the harem genre is way too cliche now.

If you want a harem anime that is different you should try School Days. It's a nice subversion imo.

But, one of the reasons I got tired of anime is alot of the stuff that people say is good and promote isn't good at all and I got tired of having to deal with bs recommendations whilst better series are ignored. There are people who still for example like shit such as Naruto (Eww) all whilst ignoring the series that inspired it Ninku. Which is another problem, alot of stuff isn't translated especially the stuff before the 00's. Got tired of that and I decided to learn Japanese and buy what I want to watch directly instead (specifically when it comes to manga.)

Best to do your own research and filter them out. Online is a great tool for that so you don't get caught into the majority trends. There are people who still think DBZ are the best lol.
