Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers shown off for the Nintendo Switch; New characters Evil Ryu and Violent Ken playable There was a quick clip of Street Fighter 2 being shown over Nintendo Switch live stream. This was apparently leaked as "Super Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers" by someone over 4chan, but it is actually called Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers. This clip shows that this game is more than just a port of Street Fighter 2. It showed a quick clip of Ryu and Ken fighting together against M. Bison. Characters Evil Ryu and Violent Ken have been shown off to be playable in an image. This brings purpose to the still unconfirmed HORI stick leak we heard about. This is very interesting considering the last time anything was done with the second iteration of Street Fighter was Street Fighter 2: HD Remix back in November 25, 2008. Supposedly this isn't just a port, but a game with additional content. Evil Ryu is noted over at Capcom Unity as being Ryu having succumbed to the Satsui No Hado, similar to his story line in the Street Fighter 4 series. Violent Ken on the other hand, is Ken after being kidnapped by M. Bison and enhanced by Psycho Power. This causes his signature flames to be changed to a purple color instead of a red one. The word "ONI" is suspiciously contained in the screenshot of Evil Ryu fighting against Violent Ken. Perhaps there are still more challengers yet to be seen? Players will be able to choose between pixel art or HD graphics for Ultra Street Fighter 2. Source: eventhubs

Pretty neat. I hear it has no online and I'm not sure if we're getting it on other platforms. I think it's on PS3 but no new characters. Shame as it would be neat.

Game-play footage for Evil Ryu and Violent Ken in Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers
A video uploaded to YouTube demonstrates Evil Ryu and Violent Ken in Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers.
This is the first game-play footage of these characters. Up until now, we've only seen still images of these characters.
The video is in Japanese so you won't really be able to understand what is being said.
Evil Ryu appears to have his teleport and his hop kick from the Street Fighter 4 series. We probably shouldn't expect too many moveset changes from Evil Ryu's Street Fighter 4 iteration.

Wait... was that a glimpse of Street Fighter on VR? Mysterious clip in Ultra Street Fighter 2 trailer is piquing interest In a surprise turn of events, Capcom announced "Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers" for the Nintendo Switch last night. An new installment in the classic SF2 series that adds two new fighters: Evil Ryu and Violent Ken. The official announcement trailer was released, and what we saw in it was pretty standard: gameplay footage, information about the upcoming title, etc.. However, two seconds of video were particularly peculiar. If you watch closely around the 2:08 mark in the trailer, you'll spot a quick clip of Ryu throwing a fireball from a first-person angle. This footage looks nothing like Ultra Street Fighter 2 and has fans everywhere wondering what it could be. With the growing popularity of VR, that is the first place the mind jumps to when seeing a first-person Street Fighter. What this could also be is some sort of special mode included with USF2 that is meant to utilize the Joy Con's motion controls. Nintendo is no stranger to developing games and modes that highlight features of their new consoles. www.eventhubs.com/images/2017/jan/13/what-mysterious-street-fighter-clip/We even considered the possibility of this being something related to Super Street Fighter 4 3D Edition, but the Dynamic View only offers an over-the-shoulder angle and not first-person. In the clip, we see what appears to be a Shadaloo solider from Street Fighter 5 getting blasted by Ryu's hadouken. What's strange, though, is that the graphics actually seem to resemble the Street Fighter 4 style more, as we can see with Ryu's arms and gloves. As of right now, we are unsure what this mysterious clip is showing us. Source: eventhubs

Evil Ryu and Violent Ken have their moves and a touch of death combo shown off, along with the new throw tech option for Ultra Street Fighter 2 A user on YouTube known as Burnout Fighter has uploaded a few clips showcasing some interesting aspects of the newly announced Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers. For one, we finally get to see the new tech break in action for Street Fighter 2. Previously, you could only soften the damage you'd take from a throw but this is the first time you've been able to completely defend against it. www.eventhubs.com/images/2017/jan/14/tech-breaking-ultra-street-fighter-2/In addition to this, Burnout Fighter also shows off what new moves Evil Ryu and Violent Ken have when compared to their good counterparts. Notably, he also performs a combo with Evil Ryu that is able to stun by itself. This basically shows that Evil Ryu will be capable of performing a touch of death combo. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Capcom wanted dads who grew up with Street Fighter 2 to play the new version together with their children - Ayano talks USF2 in Famitsu interview One of the more shocking aspects of Nintendo Switch's unveiling was that the Street Fighter 2 is getting a new installment in the series... After over 20 years (depending on if you count HD Remix as a sequel or a remake). Famitsu had a talk with current Street Fighter producer Tomoaki Ayano where he details how Ultra Street Fighter 2 came about, why they made the decisions they made with it and more. I took the time to translate the interview to share this with all of you - catch a snippet of it right below. Famitsu: Thanks a lot for taking the time to talk with us today. Let's get right to the point - please tell us the whole story of how Ultra Street Fighter 2 for the Nintendo Switch came to be. Ayano: This year is Street Fighter's 30th anniversary. We've been thinking for a while, "What can we do for our fans who have been supporting us for 30 years?", and right around then, the Nintendo Switch started getting attention. Looking over the projected development time, it seemed like it would time in perfectly with our 30th anniversary, so that's how it started. Famitsu: Did you plan to make a new entry in the Street Fighter 2 series from the very beginning? Ayano: Well, we've been going at it for 30 years, so a lot of the people who played the game as kids are probably dads by now. We thought about that, and how nice it would be to have those parents playing Street Fighter together with their children. Following that train of thought, we matched our aim together with Street Fighter 2, and decided on a release for the Nintendo Switch. Famitsu: Not 3, not 4, not 5 - but 2. How has developing for the Nintendo Switch been? Ayano: Street Fighter... That is to say, Street Fighter 2, has been playable in arcades, on consoles, even on handhelds throughout its history. So it's a title that's been able to live on through many different hardware types. Ultra Street Fighter 2 already had its core game ready and done, so in development we got to spend a lot of time exchanging ideas with Nintendo about how to best use the hardware, and how to best take advantage of the unique capabilities of the Nintendo Switch. Famitsu: I see. Mr. Ayano, what is your personal impression of the Nintendo Switch? Ayano: Nintendo Switch is a hybrid of a home console and a handheld, I think. This is something you feel extra strongly when developing for it - while you're working hard to make a solid, smooth home console game, you also need to be aware of the battery consumption when the game switches to handheld mode. But, if you try just making it a pure handheld game, the visuals will end up lacking. Trying to strike a balance between those two aspects makes the Nintendo Switch a very fresh experience to work with, as a developer. I felt stimulated, that this was an entirely new way to develop games. Famitsu: Ultra Street Fighter 2 has new characters, and even changes to the game balance, doesn't it? Ayano: Yes. while showing great respect for the most played version of the Street Fighter 2 series, Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo, we aimed for a new experience in the Street Fighter 2 series... That was our vision. Famitsu: So you wanted to keep the feeling of Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo, while aiming for a new, more current experience with it. How did you decide on the new characters to include? Ayano: Evil Ryu is a pretty familiar character to fans of the series, so putting him in was an easy choice. As for Violent Ken, he's actually only appeared in spinoff titles before, and never in one of our numbered titles, so we thought this was perfect timing to bring him in. Famitsu: I'd like to ask you what your impressions were when you watched old Super Turbo players trying out these new characters. Ayano: The Nintendo Switch doesn't have a D-pad, so I was a bit worried about the controls. But, the people who played the game today gave it an overwhelmingly positive response. It seemed like a lot of people got filled with nostalgic feelings, remembering the old SNES version. Famitsu: That's how it was for me. "Oh, right, the L and R button are the heavy attacks!", I yelled, haha. Ayano: Tomorrow and the next day, people are going to try it out even more, so I'm looking forward to seeing their reactions. Famitsu: Finally, do you have any words for the fans? Ayano: Today, we brought it totally out of nowhere, but I hope you'll come by and play this new entry in the Street Fighter 2 series with us! Haha. I think there are a lot of people who just started with Street Fighter in Street Fighte r4, but those are the people I most want to try this one out. Also, for any dads thinking about buying a Nintendo Switch, I really think you're smack dab in the middle of the Street Fighter 2 generation, so I hope you'll get the game and enjoy it together with your kids. Ultra Street Fighter 2's promotional artwork looks like a callback to Super Street Fighter 2 The promotional artwork was released for Ultra Street Fighter 2 over Capcom Unity. As expected, it looks pretty fantastic. Many people are noticing that it looks very reminiscent of the promotional artwork of Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers. It certainly makes sense considering the similarities in the two games' titles. The original artist of the promotional artwork for Super Street Fighter 2 was known as Bengus. It is being theorized that Bengus might've also been the one to create the promotional artwork for Ultra Street Fighter 2 as well. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ono: Violent Ken is easier to use, we recommend beginners starting with him - says Ultra Street Fighter 2 has several modes we haven't seen yet Ultra Street Fighter 2 has been making waves in the fighting game community ever since its reveal during the Nintendo Switch presentation last week. The updated version of Super Street Fighter 2 adds new characters, online play, and more in celebration of the franchise's 30th anniversary. Following the announcement, Nintendo held their Treehouse broadcast in which Street Fighter Executive Producer Yoshinori Ono sat in to discuss the upcoming title. Among the standard information about USF2, we learned a bit more about Violent Ken. "As some of you may have seen, there are two new characters added into the series: Evil Ryu and Violent Ken," Ono said through a translator. "Violent Ken is a little bit easier [to use] for beginners, so if people are stuck on which character to start off with, we definitely suggest Violent Ken." New characters aren't the only trick USF2 has up its sleeve, though. "There are several modes that people may or may not have seen in the trailer that we haven't announced yet. So, we definitely want people to look forward to future announcements for all the new game modes that are coming," Ono stated. This might explain the mysterious clip we spotted in the game's initial reveal trailer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Did you know? Capcom wanted to do Alpha 3 instead of HD Remix; they scrapped 2,500 animation frames in development With the recent announcement of Ultra Street Fighter 2, I thought it would be interesting to look back at some of the factoids that surrounded SSF2T HD Remix's development process. Capcom actually wanted to remake Street Fighter Alpha 3, instead of SSF2T, according to the game's lead designer, David Sirlin. "We eventually did start talking about new version of an old Street Fighter and they weren't really sure even which one. "I specifically pushed for Super Turbo and I told them that. Super Turbo, there's just several reasons why you should choose that one," Sirlin said back in 2008. "Capcom really wanted Alpha 3. That's not seen as a good tournament game. "And also even if you wanted to do Alpha 3 the number of characters are so large that it's an even bigger project," he added. Sirlin was asked why the company wanted to pursue Alpha 3 instead of SSF2T, at the time. "[Capcom] just really liked Alpha 3! It has all these different versions, and it's been ported to PSP, and Anniversary Collection, every time they add some new features to it and add some new characters to it," he said. "I don't know, I guess they think it sells well. Maybe the really casual crowd likes that game but it's mostly rejected by the hardcore crowd," noted Sirlin. "I said my advice is to start with Super Turbo because it's the first in a progression, it's a good game and I know a lot about it so I'm going to be the most effective on that one. And they did," he concluded. Scrapping 2,500 frames of animation in HD Remix Later on in 2012, several years after HD Remix was released, Capcom USA's Senior VP, Christian Svensson, talked a little about the game's development — most notably that they had to scrap 2,500 frames of animation due to quality concerns. www.eventhubs.com/news/2012/jan/06/sven-talks-ssf2t-hd-remix-and-desire-create-more-2d-games/"I can't overstate what a tricky project HDR was," Svensson wrote. "I'm happy with the outcome (critically, community wise, sales wise) but it was a really hard tightrope to walk and some points in development were really scary (like when we threw away about 2,500 frames of animation in various stages of completion because we weren't happy with them and started again)," he said. HD Remix had a pretty interesting development process, and we wanted to share these couple tidbits to clue readers in on some of the history that lies behind this franchise. Source: eventhubs

'Street Fighter surprises' coming around E3 and possibly San Diego Comic Con, according to Ono
Street Fighter is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and Capcom has already started the celebration with the unveiling of Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers -- an updated version of Super Street Fighter 2 that adds new combatants Evil Ryu and Violent Ken.
Speaking with IGN, Street Fighter Executive Producer Yoshinori Ono assured fans that there is still more to come.
"Around E3 timing, maybe even San Diego Comic-Con, we have one or two surprises we hope our fans will look forward to," Ono told IGN.
As we know, Street Fighter 5 is currently in its second season and there is still much we haven't seen revealed just yet. Five DLC characters remain unannounced, and we will very likely see new costumes and/or stages throughout the year. Ono made sure to mention Street Fighter 5 Season 2 when talking Street Fighter's 30th. We've seen Capcom make big announcements at both events in the past, so it will be interesting to see what they have in store for 2017.
E3 is set to kick off on June 13th, and San Diego Comic Con will follow on July 20th.

'If this title sells extremely well we’ll consider it... for the time being it’s only going to be on [the] Switch' - Ono on USF2 console availability
IGN recently had an interview with Yoshinori Ono from Capcom. The topic of discussion was the recently announced Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers.
We managed to get a new piece of information from Ono here.
When asked about whether or not Ultra Street Fighter 2 will be released for other consoles, Ono had this to say: "If this title sells extremely well we’ll consider it. We put a lot of thought into how this can be fully enjoyed on the Nintendo Switch, so for the time being it’s only going to be on [the] Switch."
Many fans have speculated that Ultra Street Fighter 2 will be a timed exclusive for the Nintendo Switch. Based on Ono's statement, that concept is pretty plausible.
At the very least, this certainly does indicate that we won't see a release of Ultra Street Fighter 2 on other consoles or the PC at the same time as the Nintendo Switch.
Either Ono is trying to encourage people to buy Ultra Street Fighter 2 for the Nintendo Switch but actually is aware that there will be a release for other consoles or Capcom really is waiting on how well the game sells just on the Nintendo Switch.
Of course, Ono mentions that they'll only "consider it" if it sells well on the Nintendo Switch. Nothing is guaranteed right now.

Ultra Street Fighter 2 will have ranked matches with PP and BP, new information about online modes released Capcom has released new information on Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers. This time, we learn more about its game modes and online options. According to Gematsu, USF2's Arcade Mode will come equipped with a standby feature. This will allow players to open up their door to online battle requests while battling CPU opponents, then return to where they left off after the match is over. Despite Street Fighter 2 seeing its original release over 20 years ago, Capcom still has some new things to toss into the mix. Players will be able to participate in local and ranked matches in Ultra Street Fighter 2, with the former taking advantage of the Nintendo Switch's wireless feature allowing you to connect with people nearby. In ranked matches, players will compete for Player Points and Battle Points -- reminiscent of the Street Fighter 4 series. These points will allow players to look themselves up on the leaderboards, find their friends, or even their favorite competitors. Ranked match types Quick Match – Searches for players able to fight without setting any conditions. Custom Match – Set conditions and search for a player that you want to fight against. Create Match – Create a lobby where you set the battle rules and such, and wait for the players that you want to fight against to join. Friend Match – Searches for players that you can fight against now from your registered friends list. Source: eventhubs

You Must Defeat Sheng Long to Stand a Chance! It’s the 25th Anniversary of the Classic EGM Hoax The April Fool’s joke that kicked off Gouken’s story is a now a quarter-century old. Capcom is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Street Fighter this year; but that also means it’s the 25th anniversary of the classic April Fool’s joke that ran in the April 1992 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. The hoax was presented as a means to unlock the mysterious “Sheng Long” in the original arcade version of Street Fighter II: using Ryu, and reaching M. Bison with nothing but Perfect victories, you must then survive ten rounds against the dictator without exchanging any blows. If successful, instead of a draw game, Sheng Long–Ryu and Ken’s long-lost master–will appear, dispose of Bison, and proceed to wreck you with his broken moveset. EGM even doubled-down on the gag by placing the “find the April Fool’s joke” contest form on the SAME PAGE. The near-impossible trick to fight Sheng Long was soon exposed as a hoax, but is still remembered for the glorious gag it was. “Sheng Long” is born of the mistranslation in Ryu’s win quote, where “Sheng Long” was later corrected to “Dragon Punch” as intended. This hoax holds such a strong place in Street Fighter collective consciousness because it inspired design choices that made many of its aspects reality in future games. Sheng Long’s substitution for M. Bison mirrors the entry of Akuma as a hidden boss in Super Street Fighter II Turbo. And as for “Sheng Long”–he became Gouken in Street Fighter IV, making Sheng Long effectively canonical after many years. Gouken even has a win quote in Super Street Fighter IV that pays tribute to the original mistranslation–“You must defeat me to stand a chance!”–as if his very design and existence wasn’t tribute enough! AcidGlow marks the upcoming April anniversary of Sheng Long with this retrospective video: Source: shoryuken

Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers to have first-person mode, according to box art photo Some new information regarding the Nintendo Switch exclusive Capcom title, Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers, has surfaced. According to a photo of the game's box art, we will be seeing a first-person mode called “Unleash! Ha”DO”ken”. Photos of Switch game box art are currently spreading across the internet, and one such photo that shows Ultra Street Fighter 2's case popped up on several different areas of 2ch. Nintendo Everything reports that this first-person mode will function by way of the console's Joycon controllers. We caught a quick glimpse of this mode in Ultra Street Fighter 2's official reveal trailer last month, and some fans (including me) thought this might be a VR-related project. As of right now, that does not seem to be the case. The box art also features a screenshot for Unleash! Ha”DO”ken in which a timer can be seen, as well as several Shadowloo soldiers. Additionally, players can look forward to an artwork gallery that includes over 250 pieces from the series. Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers does not have an official release date yet. New petition asks Capcom to bring back and remaster Street Fighter X Tekken Street Fighter X Tekken -- the crossover fighter birthed by Capcom and Bandai Namco -- is an interesting case. The fighting title hit several road blocks in the form of controversy stemming from on-disc DLC to the complexities of the gem system. As a result, overall interest waned, and the game survived only by way of a fairly small, die-hard community of competitors. By the end of it, the game was stabilized -- some would say it became a legitimate fighting title -- but it was too late to receive a widespread resurgence. Despite the negative feedback, some fans still enjoy the game today, so much so that a petition was created to ask Capcom for a remastered re-release. A player named Kelvin Smith is at the helm of this request, noting that this year marks the game's five year anniversary. Last year, we saw Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 re-released on current-gen consoles. So why not Street Fighter X Tekken? There's more to Smith's reasoning over on the petition page, so be sure to check it out. www.change.org/p/request-for-the-re-mastering-of-street-fighter-x-tekken-for-playstation-4-and-xbox-one?recruiter=77553672&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylinkSource: eventhubs

First footage of Ultra Street Fighter 2's first-person mode - Ayano shows how to Dragon Punch, Tatsu, and Hadouken Capcom Japan's own Tomoaki Ayano recently took to Capcom TV to show off the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive, Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers. On Monday, we learned that the gamewill indeed feature a first-person game mode in which the player uses the Joycon to defeat Shadaloo soldiers. Today, however, we get to see it in action for the first time. The “Unleash! Ha”DO”ken” game mode appears to be a simple mini-game of sorts, tasking the player with the mission of defeating waves of enemies. Each attack is activated by using the motion feature on the Joycon -- if a player wants to toss a fireball, they have to perform a Hadouken motion with their hands, raise their fist for a Dragon Punch, and move their hands side-to-side for a Hurricane Kick. The Ultra Street Fighter 2 segment kicks off around 2:35:00 in the video below, so you'll have to back track a bit to see the main game footage. Hit play to see the first-person mode in action. M. Bison fights... a car that shoots lasers? This new Toyota ad takes a trek through the world of Street Fighter 2
A Toyota advertisement has gone out in Japan that features the new Toyota C-HR hybrid car, music from Queen, and Street Fighter 2. Why, you ask? I haven't the foggiest, but it sure is awesome.
The commercial shows a 16-ish bit automobile driving past each of the world warriors on their respective stages. We see the eight original Street Fighters first, followed by each of the four members of Shadaloo.
For the finale, the C-HR engages in a battle with M. Bison. No joke. Though the car has the ability to jump, block, and fire lasers in the ad, I don't think the real thing can do the same...

Tomoaki Ayano Demonstrates Ultra Street Fighter II’s Touch Screen Controls and Buddy Battle Mode
On this week’s edition of Capcom TV, Tomoaki Ayano joined the show to discuss Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers‘ new touch screen control feature. Utilizing the Nintendo Switch’s touch screen, players will be able to have special attacks, such as the Shoryuken, Hadouken, Tatsumaki Senpukyaku and more right at their finger tips, simply by tapping an on-screen icon that seems to allow players to map up to four different special moves to the screen. This should prove to be an ideal feature both to newer players who may just be starting out with fighting games with USFII, as well as for world warriors looking to literally take the fight out into the streets.
Next, Ayano demonstrated one of the game’s new modes: Buddy Battle (otherwise known as Dramatic Battle). Similarly to the mode seen in the Street Fighter Alpha 3, Buddy Battle allows two players to team up together in a 2-on-1 handicap match against a computer-controlled opponent, with all three characters onscreen at the same time. The team shares a single life bar between themselves. In the video below, you’ll be able to see the iconic duo of Ryu and Ken do battle against M. Bison, and one of the Final Challengers, Violent Ken. Later on in the video, you can see a brief showcase of Street Fighter V‘s second Season 2 DLC character, Kolin. The action begins at the 16:30 mark.

Arika teases Street Fighter EX fans with their gorgeous April Fool’s Day video
If there’s one sub series of the Street Fighter franchise that doesn’t see much representation these days, it’s Street Fighter EX. It was somewhat of an experiment on bringing the series to 3D, with the help of Arika–a company co-founded by Street Fighter II co-creator Akira Nishitani. Sadly, the complicated issues with the rights to the characters means we won’t be seeing any EX alums in main-line Street Fighter any time soon.
That said: Arika certainly hasn’t forgotten about these characters, and the company has released the following video showcasing a “what if” hypothetical look (at least as far as we know!) at what a new EX-style game with these characters would look like, just in time for April Fool’s Day in Japan.
Now, the video itself states that it’s for April Fool’s–so fans of these fighters shouldn’t get their hopes up too high. Although–the production quality looks almost too good for a one-off joke video, which certainly fuels the hope of another EX-related game…
IT’S REAL!
It seems that Arika has pulled off the greatest April Fool’s joke of them all–making people think that something is a fake, and then revealing that was real all along.
While the video they released a few hours ago–of a game with Street Fighter EX characters–stated that it was an April Fool’s joke, the game itself is actually real. Arika streamed a preview of the game which is now private, which featuring GODSGARDEN Pro’s Ryota “Kazunoko” Inoue.
The game itself seems to be cross between Street Fighter EX and Arika’s other fighting game, Fighting Layer, bringing in the walled stages and sidestep mechanic from the latter. Only three characters are selectable so far, Kairi, Hokuro, and Garuda.

I find it funny, people hated Street Fighter EX. I played it right after SF2 popularity peaked with my cousin and was a big fan. But, I remember how much hate it got, but now magically it's getting hype now. Modern gamers lol.

Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 marked down by 65% on Playstation Store
Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 is one of the FGC’s most beloved old school fighters. If you’ve been meaning to get a copy of this classic on the PlayStation 3 and haven’t gotten around to it yet, now’s a pretty good time to make a decision.
For the next week, Sony’s PlayStation Store has marked down the Ps2 Classics version of CvS2 (playable on PS3) to 65% off–$3.49, down from $9.99–with an additional 10% off for PlayStation Plus subscribers. The sale ends on the 9th, so if you want to get this at a really low price, don’t let this deal roll cancel away!
