Well ten years ago AFI (American Film Institute) made a list of top 100 best movies of all time Citizen Kane was number 1 on the list and The Godfather was number 3 but after the years passed by they made a tenth anniversary list of it and Citizen Kane was still number 1 and The Godfather was reranked from 3 to 2 wow right.
If you didn't see the movie played the game it will give you an idea what The Godfather is about and please also see The Godfather Part 2 and 3.

Eh. I don't really prefer either over the other. Kane is a movie that's more my speed than The Godfather though, so I'll say that.
On a side note, not that you explicitly implied it, I wouldn't take AFI's lists too literally. They're meant moreso for all those kids who have never seen Citizen Kane and the like rather than for those "Oh lookit, that lord of the rings thing is higher on the list than Taxi Driver" (and they've committed more egregious sins that that too, mind you).

Citizen Kane is more artistic and twisted, while The Godfather is more straight-forward and easily accessible. Both are fine movies of course, just for different reasons.
