So I finished Death Note last night. I have no problems admitting that the series started wonderfully: it had a solid premise, it was clever and had great characters that played off each other in ways that were both deep and interesting - the whole Kira vs. L thing was easily the most enjoyable and memorable aspect of Death Note. However, it starts losing its steam a bit before the half-way point, approximately around the 15th or 16th episode. By the time the second half of the arc has come into play, the show has turned to complete and utter shit. It quickly becomes boring and lifeless and only succeeds at making me hate the surviving characters more and more with each passing episode. Light in particular becomes so nauseating and played out that the shows dynamics grind to a fucking crawl, leaving the latter half of the series as more of an ordeal than anything. The series finale can be seen as something of a final push to extract something interesting from the writers and, due to this, the last few episodes are satisfactory but the damage has already been done. For the first half of the series, I'd give it a 3/4. It was clever and I really enjoyed trying to figure out what would happen next as the episode went by, sort of like a good Holmes-ian detective show but more supernatural. For the second half, a 1/4. A complete and total disappointment. I almost felt cheated out of my time. What a waste. That is exactly what I thought. I just dropped it around ep. 17, It is good to know that I didn't really miss anything good. |

Cool! I've been sick the last few days, and have done nothing but lie in bed and watch anime/youtube. I found this awesome anime called
The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Its light hearted and funny set in the future, where the main character is the captain of a destroyer space ship. I recommend it to anyone who is interested. I finished the series (26 episodes) and am now working my way through the OVAs. Great!
Also. Crispin Freeman is my hero. Dubs ftw.
