I guess, but back in my day most mainstream anime did not suck that bad.

I think with all things we tend to be partial with what we grew up with. I bet my parents would say old school music and television is better than current.

No, I was just looking at my old post. Something I tend to do from time to time. Interestingly enough, One Piece does get alot of flak. I used to read it back then, the fanboys are annoying.

The new big anime is Attack on Titan. Everyone is crazy about it, I learned my lesson about bandwagons. So, I haven't bothered.

Gaints that eat humans and teenagers have to beat them. Rough summary, but that's the gist of it.

Too many tributes to older creators and trying to reference older works to prop themselves up. Not enough works that can stand on their own two feat.
Too predictable: Teenagers saving the world
Etc.
Modern anime in general has become an oversaturated market with the same series repackaged over and over again.

Modern anime in general has become an oversaturated market with the same series repackaged over and over again. Yep, it's like a lot of stuff, it pulls from superior work. This isn't bad but it is when they over-do it. Yep, teenager saving the world with super powers or monsters has gotten old. I'd like to see something more down to earth, like a street fight or someone solving normal cases. Do you remember the name of the anime where that detective was turned into a kid and solved murder cases? I saw it on Adult Swim ages ago, but I don't remember the name. It's oversaturated because it makes lots of money.

Cased Closed!
The target audience is too insular. They like watching the same generic Light Novel high school romance or action fantasy Anime adaptations. But, anime is expensive so I can't fault them.

Simpsons seems to focus on HD and has a lot of celebrity appearances.

A bluray with 2 episodes is 100 us dollars and people buy multiple copies for support. Regular anime for kids is standard dvd prices, but the adult stuff is only supported by a niche market of hardcore fans who literary hold the industry on their backs. That's why I stop myself when I bash anime.

So it's the high Japanese prices then (like I thought). Maybe the higher prices keeps a large audience from buying it? You make more profits if you can make something cheaper and sell it to more people (not too cheap mind you), but at an affordable price for the base market. How strong is the Japanese currency compared to the US currency?

The regular childrens anime dvds are cheaper. Then again, sailor moon is not a late night anime. But, anime is only watched by kids and nerds in japan. The nerdier stuff has a large price because it has a much smaller install base. It's like comics, so the jack up the price to compensate. They tried going mainstream overseas and it didn't end to well because of piracy.

That sounds about right currently. They would have had more value if they hadn't been weakening their currency along with America. I thought you could get comics for reasonably cheap if you subscribed online or something. It's hard for me to remember since I haven't read a lot of comics recently. I mean Queen's Blade isn't a "mainstream" show like say DBZ but it is still pretty reasonably priced. Then again things in Japan tend to be expensive.

Well, comics are different. They're cheaper in japan in general, because they're a mass market. Everyone reads manga.

They probably go by the general concensus that the book is better (which it usually is), although anime can be fine too. It's because of trains. Public transportation is much cheaper than driving in Japan and the country is so centralized you can get to almost anywhere by train. Furthermore, the road layout is a mess, no really organized gridlock system like the west. Parking is expensive and parkinglots are more scarce. So, people take the train and while on the train they need to pass time. So, they use their phones, play handhelds [one reason why they're more popular] and read manga. Portable entertainment in general is huge in japan because personal space is scarce.

I could go on about bad anime. But if there was to be 1 specific one that I could just say takes the cake it would have to be school days. that anime.. Fuck that anime.
