I've been raised in a country-listening household, so I listened to a lot of that for a while. Once I reached high school, however, my friends started introducing me to other music, such as Linkin Park, Simple Plan, and Slipknot. I started developing a passion for jazz music as well, and I've gotten caught up in some of the older rock music; both os those were due to being in my school's band (the rock was because one of or marching shows was "School of Rock").
Here are some of my favorite bands/artists:
1) Linkin Park Just awesome. I've been hooked to their music since I heard "Faint" two years ago. I especially like their songs "What I've Done" and "One Step Closer".
2) Breaking Benjamin Like most people, I first heard "Blow Me Away" on the Halo 2 ST. My favorite songs by them are "So Cold" and "Break My Fall".
3) Maynard Ferguson Jumping genres here, Maynard is a legend in jazz music. He was the first man to hit the "Super C" (three octaves above a normal C) and is still considered one of jazz's best trumpet players, right up there with Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis. I recommend from him "Gospel John" and "Birdland". Both are previously written songs, but his arrangements of the tunes are amazing.
4) Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band One of the top modern jazz groups out there, this band is notoriously known for their amazing big-band sound. Their lead trumpet player, Wayne Bergeron, is arguably the best trumpet player alive. Two of their best songs are "Count Bubba" and "Hunting Wabbits".
5) Metallica I've been hooked on these guys since I heard "Enter Sandman" for the first time two years ago. I don't have all of their music, but I believe I have some of their best. I frequently use their music on my Gears of War playlist. I love listening to "Hero of the Day" and "Fade to Black".
6) Asian Kung-Fu Generation I first heard these guys while watching Fullmetal Alchemist a while back. I managed to track down a bunch of their music and I've started listening to it frequently. My favorite songs by them would have to be "REWRITE" and "Haruka Kanata".

You and your Duke Nukem... KD, you should try some High and Mighty Color, specificly Ichirin no Hana. It japanese, but its good solid rock, no the fake emo crap you hear on pop stations today.

I'm starting to like the music from Moi dix Mois. Kinda creepy group of people, but the music is good. This is the reason they are creepy: This is the founder the band, and the lead guitarist. This person is a man by the way. The whole band dresses like this, or some other crazy costume. After looking at a few pictures of them, they might anti-Christian, or they could be like a lot of Japanese people. They might just use a lot of Christian stuff (crosses etc. in a non Christian way) and they don't know what it actually means.

Intresting like Micheal Jackson is heterosexual. No offense David, their music could be excellent, but cross-dressing is teh 3v1l. After you've seen grown men (football player types only fat & hairy) do sailor moon w/ the mini skirt... well, let's just say that he was number 23 on the list...

Like I said, cross-dressing ain't right. Again, David, not knockin' the music, just the choices in showing sexual orientation.

they were all beaten as children
and why is it the Japanese that have the crazy insane styles?...and acts, there's another japense band where the vocalist literally cuts the inside of his mouth and spits blood on the crowd infront [they were at either '05 or '06 Family Values Tour found them, their name is Dir En Gray.....along the lines of that]
i found the music to my liking, not the normal brand of death music, but hey, uniqness is fun ;D
i'd also like to add Mindless Self Indulgence, Taking Back Sunday, Aiden, and Saosin to my list.

I used to listen to some Trance back in '05 but I got bored of it and then I discovered the single most greatest music in the world (or at least that's my opinion), METAL! I've never been a big fan of rap but I used to listen to some stuff back in the late 90's when I was a kid.
