C-Master and I had a good discussion about this game in the "What are you listening to?" thread, so I think it's good to make a thread about it. Super Battletoads is part of the Battletoads video game series, but the games are infamous for being difficult. This game is considered "more hardcore" than the other Battletoads games because it's much more violent with mature themes. It has excessive violence, blood, dirty fighting, decapitation, and a bunch of other stuff. Surprisingly, I like this game since it's fun and it has some good music.

This one is easier and harder in a way. Obviously it isn't as unplayable as the Nes version and Battlemaniacs, but it is still challenging, especially on six difficulty. If you get good enough you can beat the other versions without dying (I can beat Battlemaniacs without dying), but I'll be damned if anyone can beat that Arcade version without using a continue, they do so much damage on level 6 that they are tons of one hit kills from silly things.

Well, someone did a speedrun and uploaded it to Youtube. They didn't lose a continue at all, and it looks legit.
Part 1: Part 2:
I agree that Super Battletoads can be challenging. Then again, almost all of the bosses are somewhat easy as long as you know their pattern. The first boss (General Slaughter) is the easiest since he's such a pushover. When I used to play this game, I play until I get to level 6. That level was just too annoying and I didn't feel like wasting my money.

Yea he did good lol, but he used save states, I believe he had it on 4 or lower difficulty. Most don't know how to do the dipswitch. Yea, on level six they attack faster and basic attacks are instant death. But you're pretty good, I played when I was in 3rd grade and we kept redoing the first, because by the time we got more money we had to restart.

What's a dipswitch? Is that a part of the emulator?
Well, I might download an arcade emulator in order to play it again. I might do it over the summer in order to reward myself for passing all of my classes this upcoming semester. I somewhat miss playing Super Battletoads and a bunch of other games that I've played in the past.
Anyway, what was your favorite stage?

That was pretty good, but it isn't hard to complete the first stage without dying.
Besides, General Slaughter is the easiest boss in the game. In fact, it's harder to defeat General Vermin than General Slaughter.

Here's a no death run, tell me what you guys think? I saw that, I practically live on Battletoads lol. Good run, I need to make a correction though. He didn't use save states on the Speed Run, he used a continue though, not bad. On the no death run he used save states, still did good. I want to see someone play it on level 6. Have you gotten into it now Yoshi?

Nah, I'm going to wait until the Summer to start downloading video games. If I start now, there's a high chance that I'll be distracted from my schoolwork.
I can wait, though.

Yep, because I'm pretty sure I might find more games that interest me and I'll acquire a habit of downloading games for nostalgic reasons.
This is funny: Honestly, I'm not surprised someone made a video like that.

Yep, because some people enjoy themselves when doing stuff like that. General Vermin's reactions were hilarious, though.
Seriously, it make me wonder why the game developers allowed something like that in the game...

Well you answered question, lol.
Funny thing is I *love* the classic ones just as much as the Arcade, more of each in different ways. I like the variety and different level type of challenge, and I like the silly beat-em- up type of challenge in the Arcade. Once you can play the classic games, you like them a lot more.

If video game companies cater to the audience that like to do that kind of stuff in video games, then I have no respect for them.
I haven't played a Battletoads game in a long time, but I'm sure that I would revive my interest in them if I manage to play one of those games. Like I said, I'll be going over to "the dark side" this Summer in order experience massive amounts of nostalgia.

There's a difference between giving people what they want, and fan-wanking. Like Green Green, Now if they had some nude photos of the Dark Queen or something, I'd probably be more understanding. It's more intense than other Battletoads games, especially for it's time, but the game was never meant to be a "kids game" really, as seen by the difficulty.

It doesn't bother me either, but it caught me by surprised when I first played the game. To have a video game character grab someone by their crotch...and punch repeatedly down there...it's just weird seeing that in a non-wrestling video game. Then again, since I'm not a fan of "M" rated games, stuff like that might be in a bunch of other video games.
Of course, kids shouldn't be playing games like this because it has a bunch of mature content and it's difficult. If I were to let my little sister play this game, then she might get frustrated real quickly. She's more into racing, puzzle, and platform games rather than games packed with action and fighting.

Well it is Battletoads, but I see what you mean, that's what they reviewer was saying. M rated games don't bother me if they're good, no different than R rated movies. As long as they aren't using extremes just to create publicity for a bad game, like Rockstar does sometimes. I play a little of everything myself honestly.

Well, it would be nice if a new Battletoads game is made. It doesn't have to be as hardcore as the arcade game, but I wouldn't mind knowing how the toads would look in 3D. I bet they'll all look like steroid-enhanced toads...
What was wrong with Rockstar? I never heard of that game before, but is it similar to Guitar Hero?
I play all video game genres, except shooters. For some reason, those kind of games just don't interest me. I guess you can call me a "Nintendo Fanatic" since I've been a fan of their games ever since my toddler years, and they're very good. They're the one's who created Yoshi, so that automatically makes them awesome.

I think today that Super Battletoads might squeak by with a Teen rating while it would have been an M back then, kinda like the early Mortal Kombat. I mean games like movies aren't always fair either, some movies get adjusted to a "better" setting because of how popular they are or the subject matter (especially movies.)

Ugh, I dislike the Grand Theft Auto series. It's one of those video games that are centered around crime, sex, and profanity. I remember hearing a bunch of news reports that were GTA-related, and some of them involved deaths.
Well, a "T" rating wouldn't be too bad for a Battletoads game. Wasn't "Super Battletoads" the only Battletoads game that had an "M" rating?

I don't know if it was rated that way since it wasn't released in homes it probably just said the label "Violence strong" or something like that. I tend to go by the game and not the rating. I have some football game rated "M" and I don't know why. I've yet to see any bad content.

Well, you can't blame Super Battletoads for having an "M" rating. It has blood, gore, violence, hard difficulty, and other things that woulld make it an "M" rated game. Despite all of that, I actually like the game.
I don't get how a football game could have an "M" rating. "M" rated games are usually filled with adult themes, profanity, violence, etc and sports games almost never have any of that. Anyway, I play video games as long as they interest me. It's just that most of the games that interest me are "E" and "T" rated, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I didn't think difficulty would affect the game rating, but it definitely isn't a kiddie difficulty by any means, especially on the harder settings. I don't know why it was rated M though, Quaterback Attack had real football clips in the game but that was it.

Well, I doubt a game would be rated "E" if it was extremely hard. Little kids would get frustrated and give up before completing it.
Well, I guess the developers only wanted adults to play that game.

Well the first one was for everyone and people say that's the hardest game made... It would have to be something offensive, even if it was clearly not "for kids". There are some hard games out there with adorable characters.

Well, my guess is that the developers wanted to make a somewhat challenging game for all ages, but they didn't think it was be so difficult in the end.
I don't know any difficult games with adorable characters, but I doubt any of them were made by Nintendo. I've never heard of a difficult Nintendo game before.

Man, you have to see gameplay of the NES Battletoads, so many of the levels were one hit kills and you had to start all the way over, 12 levels long with no passwords. On two players if one person died BOTH started over. No way that was on accident. Look it up on Youtube or I could send you stuff. Either way I love the game and I need to start it up again.

Wow, you're right. I just finished looking at some Youtube videos of it, and I'm surprised that a game as hard as that was made. I guess the developers just felt like making a very difficult game, but they didn't expect it to have a cult following.
Well, I might try to beat the game over the Summer since that'll be the time in which I'll be experiencing the "dark side".

You should try to beat it, you'd be up there in the elite group of gaming. It's fun, but you have to be patient.
