Dragon Ball Kai

Well, there's another Dragon Ball anime, and it's called "Dragon Ball Kai". I'm not sure at the moment, but I believe it's just DBZ without all the filler episodes. In other words, it'll be based on the manga with no extra stuff. Here's the opening:

Yeah, I've been looking into this a little. Everything you said is right, plus everything will be remastered in HD and they will be getting at least most of the cast to revoice everything. I do hope either Ocean or Funimation dub this. If it gets aired on cartoon network again that would be even better.

My only concern about this anime is the lack of humor since most of the humor in DBZ took place in the filler episodes and events. I know the story would move along much faster without the non-canon stuff, but some of the filler from DBZ was actually good.

yeah, actually I was kind of thinking the same thing. How are they going to decide what's filler and what's not? and how are they going to know whether they should or shouldn't take a scene out?

But there are some things that are just blatant filler that they should just plain get rid of, no questions asked, or at least shorten. Some of the scenes right after one fighter blasts another fighter for example (and I swear this happens every other episode). There's just this cloud of smoke that sits there for five minutes, which I think is supposed to leave you in some kind of suspense. That's filler. I mean we know guy who just got blast is just sitting behind the wall of smoke undamaged, so those scenes don't really serve any other purpose. And then you have the staring contests. Yeah... let me tell ya, that sure is a great way to save on the budget. Almost no animation required, and any animations you do make can just be recycled over and over again.

btw, I watched the first episode subbed and it seemed like it at least addressed the smoke-clearing problem I was talking about. It also seemed to keep the humor like you were talking about. Overall, I think it's looking pretty good.

I agree, I need to take a look at it though, some parts are cool and funny, like Gohan and Vedel, others not so much.

Well, I just hope it gets dubbed in English. I might watch the subbed version if there's a credible source that says it won't be released in English.

Are all the DBZ sagas going to be in Dragon Ball Kai? If so, then I can't wait until Android 18 makes her appearance.

funimation said they were interested in dubbing it, but they want to wait until they know the JP releases will be consistent. It could be a month until we hear back from them.

I was very X-cited at 1st but after I found out it wasn't really all that new. My X-citement really dimmed.

The least you could do is be optimistic. Since Funimation said they're interested in dubbing it, it might happen.

I've watched some of this updated DBZ series its actually good

also at first i wasn't a fan of the new voice actor for kid Gohan but now i'm okay with it.
