I went to my first anime convention over the weekend, and it was awesome. There were plenty of video games, game shows, anime movies, merchandise, tournaments, and a bunch of other stuff. Everybody in my anime club had to cosplay as someone from a video game and/or anime since we'd be able to get in for free, and I cosplayed as Brock from the Pokemon franchise. I chose him because one of my female friends cosplayed as Misty, and she thought it would be funny if the two of us represented the Pokemon series. Not only did I cosplay as him, I also tried imitating his personality and habits. If any of you are familiar with him from the anime, you'd know that he has a habit of confronting every pretty girl he meets and flattering them until someone pulls him away. That's what I did, and I had so much fun doing it. The girls didn't mind since it was pretty obvious who I was cosplaying, and I had some pokeballs around my waist. My friend who cosplayed as Misty kept pulling me away from the girls by the ear after I spent about 6-10 seconds flattering them, which is exactly what happens in the anime. It was hilarious. The next anime convention I know of will happen next semester, so I'll have a couple of months to think about the next character I'll cosplay. Did any of you ever cosplay as a fictional character before? Would you ever do it if you had the right material to make the costumes?

Nice! Which convention did you go to?
I went to AWA (Anime Weekend Atlanta) last year. That's a pretty big convention. It had pretty much everything you mentioned. And I'm gonna go again this year.
My friend cosplayed as evil ryu some time back and he did a pretty good job at it. I don't really know who I'd cosplay as though. I wouldn't want to buy a bunch of crap, like a wig and stuff, and I don't exactly want to go as "L" either...

Since you went as Brock, did you keep your eyes closed the whole time? Lol.

Nah, I squinted my eyes most of the time since I wanted to see where I was going. Also, I has someone use a black washable marker and color the lower third of my top eyelid and the higher third of my bottom eyelid to make my eyes look exactly like Brock's eyes. It worked like a charm, surprisingly. It was a convention called Otaku Con, and the admission is free to cosplayers. Non-cosplayers had to pay $10 to register. When does the AWA start? Well, there's nothing wrong with wearing weird clothes as long as you're having fun. Besides, you wouldn't be the only one wearing a wig.

Let's see... it says September 18 - 20. Basically Friday through Sunday. Where do you live? Are you actually interested in going? In case you are, I think the time when early registration ends is approaching fast.

Cool, that must be the anime convention I heard about that's happening next semester. Hmm, I might be able to go since I don't live too far from Atlanta (I'm assuming that "Anime Weekend Atlanta" takes place in Atlanta, Georgia). My anime club has a meeting tonight, so it's likely that we'll be discussing it. Is there a website that gives out more information about AWA?
I'll be thinking of possible characters to cosplay since I had a lot of fun being Brock over the weekend.

I've never gone to one, but I don't think it's a bad idea. I'd love to have an outfit.

Well, you should try it out. Brock was the first character I ever cosplayed, and it was fun.
I'm sure there are some anime/video game characters that you can portray with ease.

Cordera, if you really are interested in going, you can sign up with me and other David. His group gets a discount. It's only like 25$. To yoshi, this is the official site: www.awa-con.com/

Cool, I'll make sure to tell some of my friends about it.
I don't like the prices of the registration for the video game tournaments, but I still might participate in one of them. If I do, then I'll be in the Super Smash Bros Brawl tournament.

Maybe I'll see you there yoshi! Figure out what day/s your going, and let me know. Maybe we'll meet up. And C, it's probably one of those things you'd have to mark your calendar for. That is if you want to benefit from early registration. But like I said, it's Sept. 18-20. It's a weekend. If you really are interested in going, it shouldn't be that hard to just keep one of those days open . Oh yeah, and AWA is an annual convention. We go once a year.

Sure, I'll let you know what day I'll be going. I just hope nothing comes up during that time because stuff like that usually happens to me. Do you plan on registering in one of the tournaments? If so, then we could be partners in the SSBB tournament, or opponents. I wish you had pics, Yoshi. Unfortunately, I'm too cheap conservative with my money to buy a digital camera.

Theres some good cosplayers out there, Don't know why they don't look for a job in the Movie world for costume design.
