So I'm reading this thread, and of course on my way down there had to be a moron comment.  This time instead of wasting my energy arguing with the idiot I posted it here to have a discussion.

What bothers me is that he's just a white knight and that his argument is full of holes. (The person in question's name is FlynnChop).  I wouldn't mind if it were a legitimate critique of the design and not just flat out white knighting.

He complains that the game has a girl that looks young, when in fact many games have that, fighting or not.  In fact Kasumi and Ayane were *both* under 18 early on in DOA.

And on the 18 thing, this is what really annoys me.  First of all most places in the world do not have an age of consent that is 18.  Not even the overly Puritanical United States.  Only a minority of territories have that age restriction, so that is hypocritical anyways, and most people around the world simply don't have the uptight yet over sexualized double standard that we do.  A person isn't going to know the exact age of a person when they first meet them to be attracted to them, so the argument is absurd.  Girls who are 15 look like 18 year olds did many years ago.  It can be very hard to tell and the government saying "well you can't find that attractive" is absurd.

If a girl is 17, then looking at her is supposedly disgusting or even finding her attractive, but when she's 18 she can be gang banged by 5 guys on camera?  It makes no sense.

The dumbest part is the girl in question is *actually* 18.    Which makes the whole discussion even more nonsense.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Ayane was 14 in DOA 2:HC and Kasumi I believe was 16. I don't mind people complaining, but what I do mind is when people are obviously unfamiliar with a series and then proceed to critique it. I find it annoying and pretentious. But, also common.

This reminds me of the Dragon Crown incident all over again. More political agendas being pushed into the "Community". I don't know how you can even bother.

The problem is like you said ignorant complaining and hypocritical complaining. And like you said it's about trying to push some mangina agenda. You know what really got on my nerves was that stupid review of KofXIII.

They didn't cover the gameplay, balance, or anything like that. They focused solely on Mai Shiranui and Yuri and King's shirts opening when they lose by a special. Which was a homage to old games. Then they complained about "racist backgrounds".

I mean it was clearly them just trying to ram their garbage down our throats. The crap was fraudulent.

I almost prefer when they complained about games being too violent than this. Video games are simply the "new thing" and groups will find ways to bash it. This is the vaginization of gaming and what I don't like.

It's also hilarious they complained about Fat Princess for the same reason but the opposite. Fat Princess was designed BY a woman and people complained it promoted negative images. They need to buzz off.

It's pretty much propaganda via journalism, It's become so obvious that it's laughable. They think they're defending "our morals" when honestly there is no "us". Their full of it and it's become a running gag at this point. It's like the whole Resident Evil 5 racism controversy, because white people [Chris and Jill] are killing some people in an unknown African country. It's racist, what about all the white zombies that are killed? No one said shit about it. At this point, these people are a joke. Racism and sexism is seen everywhere, it's whatever.

I know Europe gets more hung up over the violence as well. Japan used to be the least strict but it seems they tighten up a bit now.

That hole age of consent or "too young" nonsense still annoys me with the way people try to rationalize various double standards and nonsense regarding it. Just been seeing news stories and discussions on it again and it still annoys me.

It's stupid because they are fictional characters and a girl who looks young even if she is older should be no more "weird' than a game where killing people is ok. If a female character was a 10,000 year old vampire would it be ok if she looked 5? People are so scared of being labeled they worry about this nonsense.

The issue with it over here is people want to put out double standards. For instance most of these cases are teachers who have sex with underage boys and get very little sentence if any, and people just go "I wish that were me!" and somehow the age is no issue unless it's with a girl. Most of it punishes guys who are teens themselves or young adults and have done nothing really wrong and will have their lives ruined while female teachers in a position of authority get off free. So either they need to adjust the laws or put the women behind bars.

On top of that they say females can't make decisions for themselves below a certain age? So how is it ok if they have sex with a boy 2 years older but they don't understand what they're doing if a guy is 4 years older? If a 17 year old has sex with a 21 year old she's a child, but an 18 year old can be gang banged on camera? It makes no sense and when a woman sleeps with a 13 year old and gets pregnant he's forced to pay child support. This is in an age where girls go around wearing slutty clothes and send nude pictures of themselves on cellphones and post seductive stuff on the internet. People try to say it is unusual when throughout history and around the world men have dated younger and in reality women sleeping with boys is worse.

That's why we should make laws that are consistent and make sense and not based on what most idiots "feel". Are people complaining when they sexualize these teen pop stars? It's nonsense.

People just want to have their cake and eat it too with this stuff.

I was just bringing up that aspect since people like to compare it to the real world. Ultimately they're fictional characters but what annoys me is you make a woman with large breasts and they complain. You give them small breasts and then it's pedophilia.

Hmm I still think if you're having thoughts that could lead to ruining someones life if you don't think you can control them, trying to get sympathy and protection on the internet is not the way to do it. Lock yourself away with people that will actually help you. That way, you don't go to jail, you won't get on some sex offenders list, you won't hurt anyone and you yourself will be able to keep living normally.

Anyway instead of talking about real pedo's, the target of pedophilia in video games is ridiculous. The UK is really strict on this stuff so if Marie Rose was a problem, I would know because I wouldn't be able to play it. So if the strictness of the UK finds it acceptable then it's fine. I personally wouldn't be putting my personal business out on the internet, that's stupid. These people do need help. Horrible men are allowed to exist in video games but women have to fit one archetype.

All new female characters have to be like the New Lara Croft and any like Juri are bad representations, but characters like The Joker aren't criticised.

That's a case of "positive discrimination" biting them in the butt. Women have to be "perfect" all of the time. That is why male characters are more dynamic and interesting more often than not.
