So, I have to take into account inflation? I guess Countries with strong currency are "richer"?

So, I have to take into account inflation? I guess Countries with strong currency are "richer"? A stronger currency is based off of a sound money, and preferably some sort of standard to keep the money from inflating. What you'll often have happen is people will look at money and not what it can buy, or it doesn't take into account substitution. They also look at more spending as strength in a lot of these and not savings.

Most of the decline we have is social. Are material standards have gotten better, but society and people have become mind numbingly decadent. To the point where it might affect our material prosperity.

Most of the decline we have is social. Are material standards have gotten better, but society and people have become mind numbingly decadent. To the point where it might affect our material prosperity. Well we're definitely much poorer now, we were once the largest creditor nation in the world and the richest by far. We are now the largest debtor nation in the world with trillions of dollars in debt (almost 100 trillion if you count unfunded liabilities) that's a tremendous amount of money we'll never pay back. We're broke and the "prosperity" we have died long ago. We do have better technology from past times, but that's the case in every nation. We have more people living off of the system than ever, and we've lost many of our rights and freedoms. Our biggest decline is definitely economic, which is what I'm the most worried about. I'd prefer a totally free and prosperous country of course.

Yeah, many countries have the same technology we have: Tv, Cars, Microwaves, etc. I hate how politicians compare us to 3rd world countries to make a point.

Well a lot of the common lies they tell is they'll mention a country with lower wages, but not mention the standard of living. They love to do that with China. China has some issues, but it is rapidly growing, while we're rapidly declining. It's all propaganda and to scare people into staying here.

Even if china wasn't growing we'd be declining. We've slowly turned our backs on everything that made us great.

What's funny is the warfare might be excusable with 9/11 and all. There is no excuse for welfare state. I honestly would have war if it ment less entitlements. At least bush doesn't say "you didn't build it".

We gave up our rights each time, like we did with the patriot act.

I don't support the extra powers given by the patriot act. But, as for the bolded. You think bush and republicans are congurent with obama and dems with their aim for big gov?

I think it's congruent in the sense that politicians will use anything they can to further their own goals. The amount of spying we have now on citizens was a big breach in our freedoms and turned many agencies and banks into unpaid IRS agents. I think a politician is a politician at the end of the day. The income tax, witholding tax, plus several other things have occurred during war time, when people are the most desperate.

Republicans also voted for bailouts. Which is disgusting. Yeah, politicians are only after their own interest. I'm mostly concerned about principles not party loyalty. When obama killed osama bin laden I popped the champagne even though he's a dem. People follow party lines too much.

It's really fascism either way and I don't really care about colors. I'm more libertarian than anything, but I think 99% of politicians are bad, they're just glorified welfare recipients.

I believe in a limited government overall, I just think that they grow and become big governments over time. Peter Schiff had a very good show today on this issue. A guest came in and talked about the "libertarian manifesto" of his in his book.

I think the bailouts for example are wrong. What things do you disagree with mainline conservatives.
