I just hope Nintendo remembers to release a standard controller with their next console so that they can see more games on their machine. Also, what's with everything being wireless on the Wii U? I have to BUY a LAN port for the Wii U. I have to BUY ports for wired (Gamecube) controllers. Screw wireless, I prefer wired. You can only change the game when you're plugged into the game and are near the console. A guy in another room can't just pause a game if he wants. Also, batteries dying mid-match is a hype killer. Nintendo is trying to experiment with a different type of console. Because consoles are on borrowed time. But, a standard controller would be nice.

They've fixed a lot of the lag issues on most of the controllers provided you have no interference. If you charge the controller they should last you a while. I'm not sure how long the Wii stuff lasts though, so I can't say there.

I handed a PS3 controller to my friend so he could go to another room and play Melty Blood on his laptop with another friend. He hit the home button and ruined our match on the PS3, which was bogus. Also, 'a while' still means that the controller will eventually have to be recharged. Imagine 4 players whose controllers are all low on battery. Have fun.

I use wired more often than not nowadays, but I never really had issues with wireless. Just don't have much of a use of them nowadays. That really sucks on the battery part, what made Wii think that's a good idea?

Guess they gotta nickel and dime us further with play 'n charge kits, eh?

I could swear I posted a reply a couple times, maybe I just didn't let it finish.
Anyways, yeah, it sucks having to buy a rechargable battery pack for the X1 controller, considering I only want to use it WIRED.

What do you guys think about Smash Bros. as a fighting game?

I took Brawl fairly seriously, but it was very late into the game. I intend to take Smash 4 seriously and become the best in the universe at it.
Do I think Smash is a FIGHTER? Yes and no. I would call Smash Bros a platformer / fighter hybrid. Think about it. You maneuver around a stage like a typical platformer, and you can only die via the same means as a typical platformer - you fall off the screen. Smash Bros is just far too different from any fighter out there to be categorized as such, with the knockback based system and unique environments. It certainly has fighting game elements. There are footsies, there are frames, there's punishment on block / whiff, there's a wide variety of attacks, etc.
I should also throw this out there: I hate Smash Melee. It's an absolutely broken mess and many of the design choices / glitches made the game very frustrating for me at a mid - high level.

What about the original Smash Bros?

Smash 64 is radical. It's the cleanest Smash Bros released so far, and the techniques used at a low level and high level aren't radically different. Melee gave us oddities like spikes VS meteors, wavedashing (and a terrible air dodge system in general) and that nonsense, while Brawl took Melee's chaingrabs and took them to a whole 'nother level of BS, along with grab release nonsense and DACUS, though it did fix several things I hated about Melee. Smash 64 is simple. You run, jump and hit people a bunch. High level players are just players who more effectively use the tools provided to them with proper spacing, and optimized followups (seriously, I think a large chunk of the cast has 0-death true combos). I like that.

What do you guys think about Smash Bros. as a fighting game? I'd put Smash in a different category to traditional 2d and 3d fighting games. I have no problem with it, but the fanboys can drive you nuts for sure. I have friends who are diehard fans of the game. I got so sick of hearing how it's the "deepest game ever" and that kind of stuff. I'm not sure I'd put it up there with the most hardcore of 2d fighters though in terms of difficulty/depth or Virtua Fighter for that matter, but that doesn't make it bad. Smash 64 was my favorite as well.

I thought I responded to this, but which platform was this on? I can't remember if it is one of the handheld games. I haven't played anything on the Wii, but I think I played Triple Deluxe. My favorite is Super Star though.
