Here is some EVO information from shoryuken:
Evo 2016 Details Revealed – Street Fighter, Smash, Guilty Gear, Pokkén, and More
The wait is finally over. Earlier tonight, Evo organizer Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar went live with Twitch’s Mike Ross from the Red Bull eSports Studio in Santa Monica, California to announce this year’s lineup. You all have waited long enough, so let’s just get right into it. Here’s the full lineup:
Evo 2016 is scheduled for July 15-17 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Sunday finals, featuring Street Fighter V, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mortal Kombat X, Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, will take place at the Mandalay Bay sports arena.
If you’re sweating the costs of this trip already, you may be able to win a trip for two to Las Vegas. All you have to do is enter for a chance to win over at Kernel. The winner will have all their expenses (flight, hotel, tickets for every day, etc.) covered, so don’t waste any time throwing your name in!
More Evo 2016 details can be found on the official website.

Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar Discusses the Evo 2016 Lineup
As many of you have likely heard, event organizer Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar visited the Red Bull eSports studios tonight to announce the entire Evo 2016 lineup. We’ve seen obvious choices and surprising wild cards, but how did the tournament runners come to these decisions?
We recently had the chance to speak to Cuellar about the games they’ve picked for Evo 2016, picking his brain about inclusions, exclusions, logistics, and more. Check it out below.
Street Fighter V is set to make its debut at Evo 2016. What factors prompted the replacement of Ultra Street Fighter IV?
Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar: Street Fighter V is a brand new game and a vast majority of people are playing it. The success of their beta tests confirms this. Street Fighter IV has had an incredible run of seven years, and we hope people continue to play this game, but for this year Evo will be running Street Fighter V only (puts on Guile shades).
Do you think Street Fighter V will have as big an impact on the tournament as Street Fighter IV did in its first appearance?
Mr. Wizard: I think it will be much bigger. There are 30 million PlayStation 4s out there as well as countless PCs. Everyone has access to this game from the getgo this time around, so a lot of people will be fiending on it this year!
You’ve chosen to include both major Smash games again. Why is that?
Mr. Wizard: The Smash community has proven time and time again that they are here to stay, and with the diverse number of crossover players, it was very clear that each game has their own following. It so amazing that a fifteen year old game can get record numbers, and so we decided to bring them both back.
Will Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ever die?
Mr. Wizard: I don’t think it will ever die. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is still being played every so often, so I think it still has many years left. Marvel has provided many incredible moments at Evo, and is still incredible to watch, and our fans still love the game, so it has returned this year. I don’t know if it will get the prime time slot anymore, but it deserves to be in the lineup nonetheless.
What do you expect to see from Mortal Kombat X in its sophomore effort?
Mr. Wizard: With the announcement of Mortal Kombat XL and their revamped efforts on netcode, I think a lot of people will be playing this game again. I also imagine that with this release will come a big balance patch as well. NetherRealm Studios did an excellent job of balancing Mortal Kombat 9 a few years after the game came out, and I will expect nothing less from them this time around. Look forward to seeing this game on the big stage at Evo this year!
Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- will have only been available in North America for a few weeks by the time Evo 2016 rolls around. In your mind, is keeping up to date more important than familiarity in these situations?
Mr. Wizard: The core mechanics of Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- will remain the same, so we can assure that players will have enough time to check out the new characters and changes and get ready for the big event. Developers keeping the game fresh is exactly what Evo thrives on, and when someone brings new tech to Evo, it is always a crowd pleaser. We were confident that the players would want to use this new version, so we have included it in this year’s lineup.
Killer Instinct has enjoyed an incredible couple of years. What is it about the franchise that keeps Evo interested?
Mr. Wizard: Iron Galaxy Studios willingness to keep the game updated and fresh keeps us interested. Three years after the game came out, they are still updating it. This year we will see new characters, more balancing, and a PC port, which is sure to influence some people to check out their game. Last year’s top eight also had all different characters, so anytime that a game is relatively balanced, fun ensues.
It’s likely that Tekken 7 Fated Retribution will still be exclusive to arcades this summer, meaning cabinets will be necessary instead of consoles. Give us some insight into how that changes things from a logistics standpoint.
Mr. Wizard: With Bandai Namco being a good partner, we are able to bring Tekken 7 Fated Retribution to the fans. This game also has Akuma, which is a huge attempt to steal Street Fighter players to come check out Tekken. As you have heard earlier today, we have ample space this year, so having cabinets there won’t be a problem at all. Also seeing how it worked last year, we are more than confident that we can bring this game to the fans and let them compete in its first global tournament.
Pokkén Tournament is definitely a wild card, as games of its style have never really caught on in the larger fighting game community or been featured at Evo. What did this title in particular catch your eye?
Mr. Wizard: Every so often, we like to take a chance on a game, and Pokémon is such a huge brand, we decided to take a chance on Pokkén Tournament. Having Bandai Namco work on the game works well, as they are familiar with how fighting games work and balancing, so it should be interesting. This game is also on the Wii U instead of a handheld, so players can actually use controllers instead of using a handheld system to play. It will be exciting to see how this plays out.
Any parting words for the fighting game players out there?
Mr. Wizard: We hope you have enjoyed this broadcast, and we have much more exciting news to share in the near future! We hope you will join us in Vegas this year for the hypest event on the planet!

It's funny how a game that hasn't even come out is in Evo. I can't wait to watch, but can we finally admitt Evo is driven by popularity in game selection and not on careful consideration.
I say this because I remember I used to get into the same arguments on why MK before MK( was not in Evo. And, people just kept saying the game was too broken and all this in depth minutia as if the Evo staff took it into consideration.

Here's Mr. Wizard's reason why USFIV isn't in EVO from Eventhubs:
Mr. Wizard explains why Ultra Street Fighter 4 isn't in the EVO 2016 lineup
The game lineup for EVO 2016 was revealed last night, with nine titles being showcased — one was notably absent, Ultra Street Fighter 4.
EVO's Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar explained the game's omission from the official lineup recently.
"I just think [Ultra Street Fighter 4's] time is over, it's not going to be on the [Capcom] Pro Tour, we're just moving on," said Cuellar.
"It's unfortunate that we do not have room for [Ultra Street Fighter 4], but we announced nine other games," he said.
Cuellar explained that there's a lot of bleed over with players, because if they enter to play Street Fighter 5, they'll also enter for USF4.
"It's just double our resources for no real benefit to us," stated Cuellar. "It's time to let it go and time to move on to the bigger and better games."
All hope is not lost for seeing a large Ultra Street Fighter 4 tournament at EVO though, as Mad Catz's MarkMan once again offered a solution to the matter.
media.eventhubs.com/images/2016/01/27_markquote01.png
Mark and Mad Catz have a history of helping out games that did not make it to the official lineup, and the side tournaments they run at EVO receive a tremendous response.
It's entirely possible that the community will put something very strong together with the aid of MarkMan and Mad Catz.

Here is a follow up about USFIV from Eventhubs:
'The community should fight for Street Fighter 4' - Justin Wong talks EVO with ESPN
As of Tuesday night we learned the official game list for EVO 2016, and many have expressed their distaste at the fact that Ultra Street Fighter 4 wasn't on it.
Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar, EVO's main organizer, has shared with us his reasoning for nixing USF4, and it does make a lot of sense from a tournament organizer's standpoint.
Still, a good dose of salt continues to emanate from a good part of the 09er community. ESPN caught up with a trio of big names from the FGC to discuss the EVO line up. Among them was EG|Justin Wong, who spoke directly about the Street Fighter 4 EVO situation.
"The community should fight for SF4 because SF4 helped us a long way," he said. The Evil Genius didn't stop there, and you can see what else he had to say after the jump.
Ultra players have gone through a drastic change almost overnight. Their game has gone from being the number one draw for most tournaments to suddenly being completely absent from EVO.
They now find themselves in the same predicament as those who bring their favorite games to play out in side rooms and outer halls at major events, and are likely going to feel some shock from this very quick transition.
Evidenced by as much as the simple fact that ESPN is now reporting on our tournaments, the FGC is surely moving towards a higher echelon of organization and regulation, (I think we call that eSports) but Wong doesn't believe that has to stop us from playing what we want.
"Even if EVO does not accept, grassroots will always run SF4 tourneys. I enjoy SF4 so I would still play. 3rd Strike got kicked at EVO and then the community stood up and brought it back with how hype the game can be. Ultra can go that route, and I'm sure Japan will still play Ultra a lot."
How do you feel about Justin's approach to Ultra not being around at EVO? Do you agree with Cuellar's decision not to have the game on the line up?

Here some recent EVO information from Eventhubs:
Only the floor seats at EVO 2016 finals will be assigned,
During the EVO lineup reveal tournament organizer, Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar, announced that we'll need to purchase special assigned tickets for finals day in the massive Mandalay Bay Event Center.
This change from the norm caused a bit of unrest in the community, as some anxiously began speculating about how they'd manage to sit with their friends and ensure they got tickets in a timely manner.
Mr. Wizard recently took to Twitter to give us an update on the situation:
Cuellar wasn't done there, as he actually had more to say about the number of available seats, and how quickly he feels they'll sell out.
With the FGC's largest fighting game tournament growing extensively each and every year, many have experienced not being privy to live finals action because of how quickly space has sold out.
Wizard has addressed this in terms of EVO 2016 as well, and it sounds like things won't be too rough this year.
With plenty of notice, and the fact that we've got plenty of space, it looks to be that everyone who wants to enjoy EVO finals this year will have plenty of opportunity to do so. Still, we don't recommend any procrastination in the ticket purchasing process once sales go live.

Evo 2016 Will Allow DualShock 4 Controllers
Here’s some great news for pad players out there: the Evolution Championship Series staff has made the decision to legalize DualShock 4 usage at this year’s event. Though normally banned due to their Bluetooth capabilities, folks who rely on these devices to compete will now be able to utilize their controller of choice.
But that doesn’t mean there won’t be regulations in place to ensure they don’t interfere with the competition. It will be every DualShock 4 users’ responsibility to make sure their controller is no longer paired with the console after their match. Anyone who doesn’t risks automatically disqualified from the tournament.
If you plan to compete in Street Fighter V, Mortal Kombat X, or Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, and are unsure of how to desync controllers from the PlayStation 4, the video below should have all the answers you need.

Information about registration from shoryuken: Evo 2016 Registration Now Open! The largest fighting game tournament in the world is getting even bigger this year thanks to their finals venue. Mandalay Bay’s massive arena is capable of holding up to 12,000 spectators, giving players who find themselves vying for an Evo 2016 championship a ridiculous amount of attention. Should you want to be a part of history, tickets are now available! The organizers were made aware of a few unforeseen fees that have drive prices higher, so they decided to drop the prices of the regular two day pass for the first week. Players can sign up for $20 plus an additional $10 for each game they plan to compete in until next Thursday, February 25. As was previously reported, Evo 2016’s finals at Mandalay Bay’s Event Center will be separate from the rest of the event, meaning you won’t need a two-day pass to buy an arena ticket and vice versa. Evo 2016 is scheduled for July 15-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Street Fighter V, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mortal Kombat X, Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will close out the event at Mandalay Bay, with tournaments for Pokkén Tournament, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Killer Instinct, and Tekken 7 Fated Retribution planned for earlier in the weekend. Registration is now open on Evo’s official website, and Mandalay Bay arena tickets can be purchased through AXS. evo.shoryuken.com/www.axs.com/events/307421/evo-2016-world-finals-tickets

Street Fighter V making 'most entrants' from Eventhubs:
Last Thursday, EVO 2016 registration opened up for players looking to compete in the year's largest fighting game tournament. Nine games have been announced for the event's main line up, with the most highly anticipated being Capcom's latest fighting release -- Street Fighter 5.
Making its EVO debut this year, it looks as though Street Fighter 5 is coming out swinging. According to the official EVO Twitter account, the latest Street Fighter title has broken the entrants record for a single game in just four days.
Though the current Street Fighter 5 entrant numbers haven't been released, we have added the final numbers for each of EVO 2015's main games below for comparison's sake.
EVO 2015 registration numbers by game
Ultra Street Fighter 4 - 2,227 Smash 4 - 1,926 Super Smash Bros. Melee - 1,869 Mortal Kombat X - 1,162 Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- – 968 Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - 816 Tekken 7 - 458 Persona 4 Arena Ultimax - 437 Killer Instinct - 397
This year, Street Fighter 5 is taking the place of its predecessor on the EVO line up.
The tournament's own Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar explained Ultra Street Fighter 4's omission last month, saying that the game's time is over now.

Good news Big Daddy we got some numbers from shoryuken:
Street Fighter V Surpasses 3,000 Participants at Evo 2016
After just four days of registration, Street Fighter V broke the Evolution Championship Series’ attendance record for one game. Now, four days later, it’s surpassed another milestone.
This morning, Evo organizer Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar tweeted his surprise at the current numbers. While an exact figure wasn’t mentioned, photographer Robert Paul asked if, perhaps, over 3,000 players have registered for Street Fighter V, to which Cuellar responded with an affirmative image.
Before this, Ultra Street Fighter IV held the record for most participants at 2,227 individual competitors. Street Fighter V appears to be a worthy successor to that legacy, with numbers impressive enough to warrant its appearance at the massive Mandalay Bay arena. Let’s go.

Heres Core-A Gaming looks at various controls from eventhubs:
'The Controllers Used to Win EVO' - Core-A Gaming takes a look at controller diversity in the FGC
Arcade stick or fight pad? People have argued that both can give advantage over the other, but we've seen widely successful fighting game players use everything from unconventional sticks to PlayStation One controllers.
Though not always the most immediate of topics, choosing a controller to use is something that affects virtually everyone that plays in the fighting game community.
Core-A has come out with a new video that examines this topic, and takes a brief look back at the history of fighting game controllers.
This is an especially important topic if you're just getting into fighters, as you've at least been faced with the basic dilemma of choosing to use a stick or a pad.

Here are entrees of both Pokken & SSB combined from eventhubs:
Pokkén Tournament and both Super Smash Bros. games join Street Fighter 5 in surpassing 1000 entrants at EVO 2016
Even though EVO is still 3 months away, people are making sure to plan way ahead for the event.
It was said a while back that Street Fighter 5 had surpassed 3000 entrants, but SF5 isn't the only game going huge.
Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Wii U both got close to 2000 last year, and they're already both above 1000 for this year as well. But wait - that's not all.
One of the new entries in the EVO 2016 lineup, Pokkén Tournament, has also managed to reach above 1000 entrants - with 3 more months to go.
Hit the jump to check out the tweets from Tom Cannon confirming that Nintendomination is inbound for EVO 2016.

Street Fighter 5 reaches over 4,000 entrants at EVO 2016; numbers continue to rise up
Back in February, Street Fighter 5 broke the EVO tournament series entrant record for a single game a mere four days after registration opened up. Roughly two months later, it seems that Capcom's latest fighting title is showing no signs of stopping.
Yesterday, the official EVO Twitter account divulged information on Street Fighter 5's current entrant numbers. According to the tweet, the game has since reached over 4,000 registrants.
Street Fighter 5 isn't the only game that's doing well entrants-wise. Both Super Smash Bros. Wii U and Melee are have already surpassed 1,000 a piece, and Pokken Tournament -- which is making its EVO debut -- has also received over 1,000 entrants.

Heres info about coaching banned from eventhubs:
Coaching officially banned at EVO 2016 for quarter finals and beyond
Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar -- one of the main EVO series tournament organizers -- took to Twitter yesterday in order to share one of the upcoming event's important rules. According to the two tweets sent out by Wizard, coaching will not be allowed in the latter parts of EVO 2016.
For those unfamiliar, coaching is a practice seen in tournament play where a friend or confidant will join a player at their station and provide them with advice between matches.
Coaching has been a topic of debate for quite some time now, with many feeling that it might give players an unfair advantage.
EVO's no coaching rule, however, does not apply to the entire tournament. Wizard notes that this rule will only go into effect for quarter finals and beyond in each of the tournaments scheduled to take place at the event.
How do you feel about coaching in tournament play?

They should also note that judging for Evo is a volunteer position, and can be difficult work. That said, perks are available to those selected to assist with running the brackets. These perks include free food for the days on which scheduled judging occurs, an official Tournament Judge t-shirt for Evo 2016, and those who judge enough brackets will be given general admission (lower bowl) access to the Mandalay Bay Events Center for Sunday’s top 8 competition.
Judges are required to provide their own transportation and lodging. Those selected to judge will be contacted via email.
Evo 2016 is set to take place July 15-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada. More details surrounding the event can be found here. For answers to any questions regarding volunteering to judge, please contact xnothingxs@shoryuken.com.

If you live nearby that doesn't seem like a bad idea if you want to get in on the action.
