Ibuki not likely playable at EVO 2016 despite meeting Capcom's Pro Tour requirements
Most of the community is now aware that Ibuki will not make her way into Street Fighter 5 until the end of June, which is unfortunate, but still would mean she'd be out at least two weeks before EVO 2016's start date of July 15th.
EVO tournament organizer, Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar took to Twitter yesterday to essentially say that Ibuki's late release will disqualify her from being used at the FGC's biggest tournament this year.
This doesn't quite line up with Capcom's official Pro Tour rules, however.
In a recent statement from Capcom's Matt Dahlgren, we got an official ruling on matters like this, which says that a character must be out only for one full week before they're tournament legal.
Post: Apr 26, 2016 at 9:57pm from NyuNozomiHyuga thacmaster.proboards.com/thread/2110/street-fighter-announced-cross-play?page=78 While a tournament organizer certainly has say over how they want to run their event, we're interested to see if Capcom will agree with having their 19th character not accessible on the FGC's grandest stage.

It’s Official: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at Evolution 2016 is the Biggest Smash Tournament Ever
Over the last few years the Evolution Championship Series has proved itself a marquee event on the Super Smash Bros. calendar. Since Super Smash Bros. Melee returned to the Evo roster in 2013, signups have grown year after year. EVO 2013 may have been the biggest tournament of the Smash Bros. year with 709 entrants, but that pales in comparison to Evo 2015’s huge numbers of 1,926 entrants for Smash 4 and 1,869 entrants for Melee.
We already know that Evolution 2016 is breaking records left, right and center; after all, there are already more than 3000 entrants for Street Fighter V and over 1000 for Pokkén Tournament’s first appearance on the Evo roster. But those aren’t the only records being shattered, as news surfaced last night that yet another has been broken: Evo 2016 will be the biggest Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament of all time.
With a month of signups to go and at least 1,927 players already signed up, it looks like there is every chance that the 2,000 player barrier will be broken for the very first time.

Ibuki takes Mr. Wizard's Twitter poll in a landslide victory, Capcom leaving her ban status up to the EVO tournament organizers
Ibuki's delayed release put her EVO eligibility in a state of jeopardy. Capcom Pro Tour official rules state that a character need only be released a week before they're legal for use, but EVO's rules require 4-5 weeks.
As the community traded their opinions on the matter, Mr. Wizard took to Twitter to poll the fans to see whether or not they think Ibuki should be allowed at this year's EVO.
Not only did fans overwhelmingly vote to include Ibuki in EVO's playable roster, but Mr. Wizard also revealed that Capcom is leaving the decision up to the organizers whether or not to allow Ibuki.
At this time, there still has yet to be a statement saying whether or not Ibuki will be allowed for play at EVO.

EVO's Sunday finals game order revealed, Super Smash Bros. Wii U hits over 2,000 entrants
This year's EVO is shaping up to be yet another massive fighting game event.
Last week, we learned that its Super Smash Bros. Wii U event is set to be the largest Super Smash Bros. event we've seen so far. Earlier today, the official EVO Twitter account gave us a better idea of what the numbers are looking like.
From what we've heard so far, Street Fighter 5 has already surpassed over 4,000 entrants this year, and games such as Super Smash Bros. Melee and Pokken Tournament have hit over 1,000 entrants each.
But the excitement doesn't stop there. EVO tournament organizer Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar has also shared the Sunday finals game order.

Help Seed Evo 2016’s Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Bracket In an effort to create the best brackets for fair–and hype–competition in this year’s Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament at Evo, organizers have once again requested that the community submit a list of who they believe to be the best of the best at the game. Obviously, the SRK rankings are an excellent way to get started when seeding for a competition like this, but feedback from the community will certainly ensure that the finalized brackets will make for the most exciting experience for viewers and competitors alike. According to Evo co-founder Tony Cannon, “The community for each game has a more balanced view of who the best players are, and relying on them to advise us on the best seeding for the tournament is consistent with the spirit of Evo.” rank.shoryuken.com/rankings/rank/UMVC3So, if you fancy yourself a Marvel mind and would like to submit such a list, feel free to drop your top 32 UMVC3 players in the comments below for organizers to see. Once the brackets are complete in early July, the community will once again be free to offer feedback on how to further improve them. Source: shoryuken

Enter the Evo 2016 Indie Showcase! Evo 2016 is right around the corner, and just like the last four years, Evo will be teaming up with The MIX to provide indie developers with a chance to demonstrate their games. This year’s Evo Indie Showcase will take place from 8 AM until 9 PM on July 15th and 16th. Why Evo? The fighting game community is a tight-knit culture who share a lot in common with Indies. Both are interested in system design and have grassroots community backgrounds; both appreciate well-crafted game design and mechanics, and both understand that games are only as fun as the people you can play with. The MIX and EVO are independent productions who strive to develop their cultures and bring people together to share amazing experiences. Participating in the EVO Indie Showcase isn’t just about developers putting their games in front of potential players for sales, it’s also about seeing what some of the game-breakingest people in video games can do with what has been created. Fighting game fans are interested in understanding deep gameplay mechanics and finding ways to creatively use the systems to take games to another level through mastery. Indies just might learn a thing or two about their own games–and maybe even meet a few people who can help make them better. How do I sign up? If you’re an indie developer looking to show off your work to a huge crowd of eager players, you can head over to The MIX’s site to apply. Registration will remain open until next Thursday, June 23. www.mediaindieexchange.com/event/the-mix-evo-2016/If you are selected to show off your game, you will be asked to set up the necessary equipment on July 14 between the hours of 4 and 6 PM; you will also be required to have at least one team member present to demo your game during the hours of showcase operation. Super Smash Bros. Melee Breaks Evo Entrance Record for 2nd Year in a Row
Not to be outdone by its younger sibling, Super Smash Bros. Melee has broken yet another record for number of entrants, with Evo 2016 now being the biggest Melee tournament of all time, surpassing last year’s Evo. Evo 2015 previously held the title for largest Melee tournament, with 1,896 entrants with Genesis 3, a dedicated Smash event, trailing just behind with 1,828 entrants.
While this is certainly a big milestone for Melee, it is still languishing behind Super Smash Bros. for Wii U which has successfully entered the 2k club, becoming the biggest single Smash Bros. tournament of all time. Street Fighter V is leagues ahead of both however, having at least 4,000+ entrants, beating Smash’s numbers even if you combine both Melee and Wii U together. Melee still has the opportunity to take its place in the 2k club but Evo 2016 sign-ups close in just under 2 weeks, so players better get a move on if they wish to join this illustrious group of games.

Super Smash Bros. Melee Joins Its Sequel in Evo 2016’s 2K Club Last week, Super Smash Bros. Melee was already well on its way to joining its Wii U sequel in the Evo 2016 2K club; today, an official Tweet revealed that SSBM now indeed has reached that benchmark, with over 2000 registered competitors eager to Smash Las Vegas up. The hype for SSBM and SSB4 is strong, and evidently growing stronger: Evo 2016 has already become the biggest Smash Tournament ever, even before Melee broke the 2K mark. Super Smash Bros. Melee has a place of honor in the Sunday Finals at Mandalay Bay Events Center, so it’s probably not a coincidence that Mr. Wizard followed Evo’s announcement with this: If you want in on some of this Smash action (or any of the nine featured game events), you can still register for Evo here. evo.shoryuken.com/registration/Source: shoryuken

Ibuki and Balrog confirmed to be EVO legal; other newly released fighters will also be allowed
When Ibuki was first revealed, it sparked a lot of controversy surrounding whether or not the character would be allowed at EVO.
Earlier this month, Mr. Wizard ran a Twitter poll where the people really showed that they want to see the character allowed to compete at the upcoming event. As such, he announced recently that both Ibuki and Balrog will be allowed at EVO per CPT rules.
The official EVO rules would have left the new Street Fighter 5 DLC characters out of the competition, but their recent allowance led some to ask whether characters in other games will have their shot to be played on the EVO stage as well.
In the interest of fairness, it looks like characters that have been recently released in other games, like Killer Instinct's General Raam will also be allowed for use.
Although the response thus far has been nothing short of overwhelming, some still would say that these new characters shouldn't be allowed to be used.

Street Fighter 5 nets record breaking 5,065 entrants at EVO 2016; here are the final registration numbers for each game
The largest fighting game event of the year, EVO 2016, is right around the corner. Players all over the world are preparing to do battle for top honors in the nine games on the tournament's main line up, not to mention side events.
With registration officially closing last night, the final entrant numbers have been released by EVO tournament organizer Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar.
This year's event has seen some of the highest numbers in the history of the fighting game community, with numerous records being broken. Looking at the final entrants for each game, we see that Street Fighter 5 has netted the most registrants, coming in at a whopping 5,065 competing players.
Other games such as Super Smash Bros. 4, Melee, and Pokken Tournament have all hit over 1,000 entrants, making this EVO one of, if not, the most stacked tournaments in the series we've ever seen.
Final EVO 2016 registration numbers
Street Fighter 5 - 5065 Super Smash Bros. 4 - 2637 Super Smash Bros. Melee - 2350 Pokken Tournament- 1165 Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator - 903 Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3- 770 Mortal Kombat XL - 707 Tekken 7 - 543 Killer Instinct - 540
CurlyW has put together a chart that compares the 2016 entrant numbers to 2015's. For the games that returned this year, you can see the percentage of which they increased or decreased since last year.

Kanzuki Beach Closed to Evo’s Street Fighter V Competitors in Rules Update
Leave the flip-flops and the swim trunks at home; updated rules for Street Fighter V at Evolution 2016 have banned the Kanzuki Beach stage from play, due (of course) to the obscuring effect of the ocean waves on characters’ feet and grounded objects, such as Birdie’s cans and banana peels. Looks like this stage is for casual play only.
Additionally, the diametrically opposite stage The Grid–the basic training stage–is also not a legal selection at this year’s Evo, either. While this will improve the spectator experience, especially considering ESPN2’s upcoming televised coverage of the SFV event, it also removes the clear spacing indicators that many players like to rely on in high-level matches.
The full list of current rules for all of the games at Evo 2016 can be viewed here.

Killer Instinct panel to be held next Friday at EVO
Next weekend at EVO, fans of Killer Instinct have more than just heated competition to look forward to.
Combat designer Adam "Keits" Heart took to his Twitter account yesterday to call attention to the Killer Instinct panel being held at EVO on Friday.
Although we cannot confirm at this point what exactly will be covered in the panel, it goes without saying that EVO is a pretty fertile ground for developers to unleash a big reveal.
Looking at the Iron Galaxy's recent survey for Killer Instinct community, and past EVO panel reveals, chances are we just might get a first look at something new coming to the game.
