Rumor: Resident Evil 7 in Development, Will Return to Series’ Horror Roots
It appears that we’ll be getting another Resident Evil game in the near future if a couple of tweets from Sekan Toto, the CEO of Tokyo based game industry consultancy Kantan Games, are anything to go by.
In the two tweets, he reveals that Resident Evil 7 is currently in development and that it will be returning to it’s old Resident Evil horror roots as a “clean slate” of sorts.
What’s also interesting is that Capcom hired ex-Kojima Productions employee Jordan Amaro, who was a designer for both Metal Gear Solid V and P.T.
We’ll know soon enough if this statement holds any water, as Capcom are set to debut Resident Evil 7 at this year’s E3.

I was just about to ask if they were going to take it back to horror instead of a FPS clone. Let's hope they do it without dumbing it down entirely.

Resident Evil 7 biohazard Ushers in a New Era of Fear
Horror fans all have one thing in common: We live to be terrified. Capcom has heard fans’ masochistic cries for a Resident Evil game far more terrifying than anything that has come before it. Resident Evil 7 biohazard is the harrowing homecoming you’ve been waiting for, and it’s coming to PS4 (with the full gameplay experience also available via the included PlayStation VR Mode), Xbox One, and Windows PC (Steam and Windows 10 Store).
PlayStation Plus RE7 Demo on PS4 Capcom announced Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the next major entry in the famed Resident Evil series, today during Sony’s press conference at E3 2016 in Los Angeles, California. While Resident Evil 7 draws from the series’ roots of atmospheric survival horror, it also delivers a whole new level of terror. In the classic Resident Evil games of yesteryear, players braced for fear in the first-person via the creepy door-opening scenes, and Resident Evil 7 ramps up that tension with an immersive first-person view and a photorealistic graphical style.
Capcom is able to achieve a shocking degree of visual fidelity thanks to the new proprietary in-house RE Engine that includes VR oriented tools. Last year’s “KITCHEN” tech demo for PlayStation VR was in fact built on this new engine as well. With the RE Engine plus industry leading audio and visual technologies, you experience every abhorrent detail up close and personal in Resident Evil 7. Playing the game in the PlayStation VR Mode escalates the unsettling feeling of presence to a level that horror fans have never experienced. That’s right, the full gameplay experience is available in the included PlayStation VR Mode from beginning to end. No Resident Evil you’ve ever survived could prepare you for this.
Of course, a horror story is only as frightening as its setting, and Resident Evil 7 pays tribute to the franchise’s origins on this front as well. Resident Evil 7 is set after the events of Resident Evil 6, taking place in modern day and revolving around a foreboding, derelict plantation mansion in rural America. Players must explore and survive the horrors within the mysterious, sprawling estate.
Courageous PS4 owners can get a taste of this exciting new chapter of the Resident Evil series by downloading the “Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour” demo. This free demo of Resident Evil 7 is available exclusively to all PlayStation Plus subscribers at this time, and offers a sense of the intense and terrifying experience awaiting you. We don’t want to spoil your time playing Beginning Hour by offering too many details, so start your download now and prepare to face your fears.
Pre-orders for North America via the PlayStation Store are available starting today and come with the exclusive Resident Evil 7 dynamic PS4 theme. True survivalists who pre-order the Standard or Digital Deluxe version of Resident Evil 7 will receive the Survival Pack, which includes an early unlock to the hardest difficulty mode as well as a special item set when the game releases. Pre-orders for Xbox One and PC will be available soon.

xhttps://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/games/resident-evil-7-biohazard-deluxe-edition/cid=UP0102-CUSA03962_00-BH70000DELUXE001 The Resident Evil saga started 20 years ago with the launch of the 1996 original, and this exciting new evolution makes now the perfect time to be a fan. Experiencing the exploration and immersive atmosphere in the new, unnervingly intimate first-person view of Resident Evil 7 is guaranteed to be the stuff of nightmares when the game releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 24, 2017.

Wow. I definitely hope they do engage the horror like they used to and make it less of a CoD clone.

Green Herbs Return In Resident Evil VII The Resident Evil Ambassador program has revealed a bit of information about Resident Evil VII. Two kinds of healing items have been revealed for the game. The first is the Green Herb, a staple that has been with the series since the original Resident Evil. It is shown next to some medicinal bottles. The second Resident Evil VII healing item is an entirely new object. It is a coin. Capcom makes no effort to explain it, only saying, “Oh wait… what’s this coin doing here?” To participate in the Resident Evil Ambassador program, which affords the opportunity to see information like this early, share it, and participate in events, someone must be over 17 years old and register to take part. You must complete a brief survey, sharing your thoughts on the series, as well as register at least one or more social media accounts. Source: siliconera

You can tell they're taking the more old school approach with the game and making it more survival based.

Resident Evil VII’s ESRB Summary Reveals Its Plot The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has issued a “Mature” rating for Resident Evil VII and, in so doing, has put together a rating summary that tells us more about the game’s hero and plot. We will be following a man named Ethan who happens to be looking for his wife. This description notes that his search takes him to a mansion filled with mutant creatures, not zombies, which he’ll have to defeat to survive. Resident Evil VII’s ESRB Rating Summary is as follows. This is a survival-horror game in which players assume the role of Ethan, a man searching for his missing wife in a derelict mansion. From a first-person perspective, players explore the environment and use pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives and chainsaws to kill mutant creatures. Combat is accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and exaggerated blood-splatter effects. As players progress through the story, cutscenes can depict instances of gore and intense acts of violence: a character’s arm dismembered by a chainsaw; a man’s leg taken off at the knee with a shovel; a character impaled through the face with a shovel. Some areas also depict mutilated corpses with exposed organs/viscera. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the dialogue. Source: siliconera

Why do you think so?
I know many are saying it feels more like their traditional roots. Better than that CoD style.

It reminds me of games like Outlast, Alison Road, and the now cancelled P.T. demo. RE5 and 6 get alot of flack, but I found them to be alright. Though, they definitely weren't horror games. The revelations series tried to go back to horror and most people weren't feeling it. I'm interested in seeing what they'll do with this one. But, it's Capcom so I'm not too keen on the hype.

I figured many horror games you see that came out later were more inspired by games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Survival Horror is definitely more niche than CoD type stuff but why play a poor man's CoD when you can just play the real thing. Some fanbases can be hard to please (like Sonic). Hopefully Capcom doesn't botch the execution of the game.

Watch 12 Minutes of Resident Evil VII PS4 Gameplay Topped by Lots of Screaming and Failing
Back at Gamescom I tried a demo of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, that has made a comeback at Tokyo Game Show. That same demo was showcased during a livestream on Twitch.
The demo was definitely quite creepy, and didn’t give many hints, so I failed three times, with Capcom USA’s marketing manager watching over me and enjoying my plight with a sadistic smile.
You can only imagine my joy at seeing someone doing much worse than I did, and you can enjoy it with me just below, topped by a lot of screaming, moaning and giggling. This time around I actually kept the frame with the hosts, because watching it is almost as interesting at the game itself.
At least I managed to keep my composure when I played it, but after reviewing Until Dawn, I’m almost completely immune to jump scares.

Resident Evil 7 Prequel and VR Game KITCHEN If there’s two things that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard loves, it’s virtual reality ports and prequels. Not content with just having the Beginning Hour demo kickoff the events of RE7, Capcom also created the early tech demo KITCHEN to highlight the possibilities of PlayStation’s new headset back at E3 2015. KITCHEN is similar to Beginning Hour as it is also set before the main story of the latest Resident Evil and it will be a standalone experience. There’s been no mention if you’ll be able to make a Jill Sandwich in the kitchen but it would be a neat little Easter egg to throw in there. PS VR owners can now enjoy the demo submersed in the virtual world for a quick horror experience. In the demo a “disturbing kitchen provides the unsettling backdrop for a tense scenario that draws players into a hyper-realistic virtual world like never before”. North American players will find in on the Demo disc of the PlayStation VR and European owners can download it digitally from the PSN. Source: dualshockers
