So I've mentioned that I've been cutting back on gaming as it is unproductive and that the communities are moronic. I wanted to put the time back into my business and other creative ventures and I knew the games simply had to be cut out as well as time spent on moronic forums arguing with the idiots there.
Now I'm going to do updates on this similar to what I did with my food journal (which I also need to update). It will highlight the changes and differences I've have from doing this. Pointing out the steps along the way to look at later and perhaps from others to benefit from if they choose to cut back or eliminate gaming or something similar.
As of today I feel more productive and different than I felt in a while. I took a long break from gaming from 2008 and I started again in 2011. 2011 was my most productive year I had yet and I spent my time focused on business and reading. I hadn't done creative based stuff as much in that time (I stopped that in the mid to late 2000's) but I was always reading financial based books and the like.
When I started gaming again I could feel the difference as my time went more into gaming and "practicing" and learning the game and dealing with the communities. While I was still doing well in business and I didn't have to work or anything I could feel things decline in other areas. I was progressing less and I focused less on my creative and growth aspects as I put more of it into playing games. While I was never the type to game 12 hours a day or anything so crazy I often felt my self playing because "it was there". Basically since I spent all of this money on gaming PC's, consoles, accessories, and games I felt like I should play it so it wouldn't "go to waste" so to speak. Looking at it more now there was always a "hollow" feeling. It was like eating junk food. It felt kind of "fun" in a way but it felt like I was just killing time because it was there and something to do more than true enjoyment.
The more I focus on productive ventures and my business the more I can feel the true enjoyment of doing something like that versus what I was feeling when I was gaming or on gaming forums or sites. It felt like filler at the time and just something I did out of a developed habit and now that I'm looking back it was especially the case. I can see the results of my productivity increasing because I'm focused on more important ventures and activities.
Needless to say it's been really good for me. I might browse a news article or discuss something that's coming out for the site but no playing for me or idiot forums. I might see myself playing something classic or single player here and there but definitely no modern multiplayer stuff. I don't have much of an urge. Too much headache and hassle there. Not to mention the time consumption.
Definitely plan on keeping it up.

Are you giving up gaming as a whole? I've mostly given up on multiplayer, but I do play single player games when I do game. I'm done with the communities, though. No good reason to post their and if I wanted to kill some brain cells I'd sniff paint thinner instead.

As of now I haven't been playing anything for the past few days.
I will play something single player every once in a great while, and if I do play something it'll likely be something old school like TMNT 3, Duke Nukem 3d, or Baldur's Gate.
I'm not really playing multiplayer at all and I'm done with the communities. I'll read articles and post things of interest and that's probably it. I'll get Tekken 7 and Kof XIV most likely and I'll give SF more of a try when they patch it and fix some of the issues, but no more dedicated "getting good" stuff. I have the fundamentals and I'll be better than most but I'm not going to sit around grinding stuff anymore or dealing with any of that nonsense.
Just a big time waster and I'm getting my fulfillment from creative activities. Been working on my picture for 18 months now and I never finished, now I'm going to try and have it done by years end for sure.

I'll post articles from top players on this site like I said I would. I usually just go by what they say, but I don't waste time on the comment sections or in the forums. Just get the news and leave.

I like a lot of what some players say and I disagree with some. Many top players have their own bias and like to whine but they often make good points. Chris Tatarian was whining about Chun Li being mindless when he plays Ken for example which was just ridiculous and people called him out for it.
That said if a good article is out I'll definitely post on it.

Well yeah, you're gonna get some you disagree with. but, I think it's more productive than dealing wit alot of these anonymous trolls. I remember back in the day in SRK. There was this guy who all he did was argue theory fighter all day. With no proof he even touched the game. I generally avoid those places.

Oh I agree with Chris T. half way. Chun Li is retarded and the bitch needs some nerfs lol. However while Ken isn't as strong as Chun (still top tier though) he is even dumber in gameplay. He's like a better and more reliable version of R. Mika. An entire gameplay based on stupid mashing and huge rewards off of random hits. It's like the major problem with this game. Third Strike tier list lol. I don't blame you on the other stuff. All of the idiocy from these sites are astounding and after that weird stalker nonsense I've had about enough.

Latest Journal update: www.quora.com/Is-playing-video-games-a-waste-of-timeThis article says quite well what gaming is like for a lot of people. It's a way to escape their lives for a while and ignore whatever problems they have instead of fixing them. This is quite common when it comes to entertainment for the masses since it's all based on consumption instead of doing something productive. I wasn't some fat loser who sat around miserable, as I kept in great shape, did a lot of activities, am athletic, and I cook and eat well every day. However I felt like I couldn't take it to the highest I could go because of the time and distraction factor of dealing with games and the community. With other activities like radio, tv, or movies I can multi task and enjoy both with something playing in the background. This is problematic with gaming since it takes your hands and your attention and even your screen. This meant I got far less done. In regards to my week it's been quite productive. Extremely busy but I can feel the differences already. Definitely enjoying the change.

Nowadays I resort to single player while handling college papers or conducting activities via internet. During specific work days out of the month, I don't even bother touching of my games at all for a whole week. With online fightin games, I also tend to play very late at night (preferably with high level players, folks who genuinely enjoy the game or people who are trying to get better).

I don't think they're inherently bad in and of themselves. I just think the approach to them by most people (especially in these communities) tend to be negative. Television and any other number of things can also have that impact but with those I can easily multi task with those. The negative idiotic communities are just infuriating though. Reading stuff like this is infuriating. www.eventhubs.com/news/2016/aug/12/gllty-puts-dhalsim-sidelines-and-shows-her-progress-juri-new-street-fighter-5-compilation/It's not just the arguing in terms of political correctness. I'm not PC at all but it's just how people turn even simple discussions into moronic behavior. On top of the bad communities you also have shady developer practices and the issues and community like in Overwatch. Capcom is also untrustworthy at this point. Modern gaming has just gotten bad compared to what it used to be. us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20748554986I guess I'm just saying that I think people can engage in similar activities in a more productive way. Instead of watching a show, try making your own show, or at least writing one. Same can be done with music or something similar. If a person enjoys playing games, why not try making one? Much better experience while also teaching some neat skills.

I saw that thread with Gilty, didn't bother reading the comments because I knew where it would go. The negative communities imo is the worst part of gaming or any fandom imo. They just are idiots and a pain to deal with.

Yep, it always goes there predictably every single time.
Don't get me started on the other forums where people get into fights and "rivalries" over who beat who in a video game where morons brag about their rank and ragequit. It's so childish and stupid.
They do exist in other consumption based communities but certain ones like SF are really bad since they are "big" but still have that "we're special" mentality. Just awful.

The problem is how time consuming they can be. But, I spread my time out. It's taken me 8 months to beat RE: Revelations 2 and I got that game back in January, spent 25 hours playing it in total. That's not bad because I would play it on and off. I took several months off before playing it. So, far I only have 36 games and I barely play them (I haven't clocked in 100 hours in any video game yet despite having steam for one whole year.). There are people who've logged in hundreds of hours and have hundreds of games. I just don't have the time. Anything that saps too much of my time get's axed these days. It's why I don't do versus anymore, I remember how time consuming it was and utterly unproductive as well.

Time consuming and unproductive. It also has a negative impact on the mindset of people. People get into this mentality that "If it's fun then it doesn't matter, there is no wasting time if it's fun." or " I'd rather be poor and have fun than be successful and miserable." This is just loser speak because it's not like you can't do something productive *and* fun.
I noticed that it had that kind of feeling to me at times. Like you're playing it out of habit and then things you'd normally do end up being "Meh, I'll do it later." People end up not furthering themselves because they get consumed with cheap and "easy" entertainment. After that they feel depressed for doing nothing so they play video games... and the cycle continues. It reminds me of MGNoxa being on here making all of those excuses. Even another poster (which we all know) would make excuses for his behavior like being broke and buying video games and then telling others they should be more productive.
It doesn't take long. I've seen people with THOUSANDS of hours on games. You have these morons who justify getting "free" game content by just playing the game instead of paying for it. They'd rather grind for hundreds of hours to unlock some characters instead of just dropping $10-$20 on them. It's like, what's your time worth?
The communities can be even worse. Say one thing and then you're locked in an argument for days. Thank goodness that's over.

That should be a meme: "Gamers are loser." Seriously though when you say loser do you mean it in the typical "lol loser" kind of way or in a deeper way?

I remember touching on it before. But, people give flak on gamers traditionally for sitting down all day and playing video games. I thought that was BS because that's what I used to do myself. But, when you actually talk to these people, all they do is play video games and have nothing else to contribute. Not to mention being socially awkward. They again, you get retards in all types of discussions: Politics, Religion, Versus, Consoles, etc lol.

Yea, the stereotypes are all true for the most part.
I grew up around people like this and hung out with some of them. Either really fat or really skinny, didn't bathe, socially awkward, no grooming, really lazy, took it seriously, etc. I was the exception to that rule as I was in a lot of stuff but it wasn't bad gaming often back then. Doing it way into adulthood is though.
Not to mention the FGC mixes this behavior with "E-Thuggery" due to the demographics and it's really obnoxious. You even have people stealing at tournaments and the like. Just sad.

E thuggery shit is sad. So, many players think they're tough cause they're good at a video game and popping off. Also, this behavior is sanctioned and often protected. Remember how much shit they got with that Super_Yan incident with Aris? Granted women crying sexism is a bit typical. But, these guys really are annoying. I don't see myself being there.

Yea the pop off stuff is stupid and people acting like they're all that because of a video game is just dumb. Many rivalries at other sites with people calling others out and saying they'll never be anything but a nobody is just ridiculous.
The petty behavior is silly. Thievery, groping in public, the Sherry Jenix (or whatever her name is) stuff. Just dumb.

That female gamer that got upset when people trash talked during her match. The white knighting for these homely girls is ridiculous. It's even more ridiculous for the trannies.

That's another problem. Gaming has become less desirable to me along with a lot of other modern media due to the PC crap they keep shoving in there. All the more reason I don't want to touch most newer stuff. Dumbed down movies with PC messages.
