Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite Revealed at PlayStation Experience, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Coming to PlayStation 4 True believers, your faith has been rewarded! At long last, after a week full of rumors and fakes, it has been revealed at the opening Showcase of PlayStation Experience 2016–viewable through PlayStation’s Twitch stream–that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is indeed in development–as rebranded Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite! But it still has a ways to go, with a projected release sometime in 2017. Gameplay footage will be featured tonight, during Capcom Cup 2016’s finals. Apparently running on Unreal Engine 4, the game will feature 2-versus-2 battles, and the Infinity Stones will play a key role in influencing how battles play out. It will include a “cinematic story experience,” as well as a variety of accessible single player modes, including an Arcade mode. It’s bound for PlayStation 4, Steam and Xbox One. That’s not enough, Marvel fans? How about Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 returning to the PlayStation Store? It will apparently become available for download today. It will also be coming to PC and Xbox One in March 2016, according to this new trailer: When Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono showed up this morning sporting a “When’s Mahvel” T-shirt, it became clear something was up. True Believers, Feast Your Eyes on the Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite Gameplay Reveal Trailer
The new age of heroes is upon us!
As promised at this morning’s reveal at the PlayStation Experience, we got our first glimpse at in-game footage of the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite tonight after the Capcom Cup 2016 Grand Finals. In the gameplay trailer below, we get to see Capcom’s Ryu and Mega Man X face off against Iron Man and Captain Marvel on the Marvel side; in addition to many familiar moves and relatable assist and air combo mechanics, we can see the game’s new style and aesthetics in motion–with a look more reminiscent of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom than its immediate Marvel predecessor.
The trailer also gives us a peek at the new Infinity Stone mechanics, in which Ryu utilizes the Power Stone to literally power up, and Captain Marvel calls upon the Time Stone for a substantial speed boost!
If you'd like to hear how the crowd reacted to the footage when shown at the event, check out this trailer straight from the festivities.

The gameplay looks pretty dope, part of the switching characters really reminds Me on how DOA Tag Team works since you switch while the current character was still attacking and partner comes in immediately to continue the combo. Its awesome to see the Infinite Stones work pretty much like Marvel Super Heroes.

Game Informer Marvel vs Capcom Infinite:
Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite could end up being a divisive game. Although the Versus series is often seen as a chaotic display of flashes and super moves, it has a surprisingly consistent core. Three-versus-three battles, assists, and a six-button layout have defined the series and for almost two decades have held the attention of a hardcore group of fans. Speaking with representatives from both Marvel and Capcom, the first two of those three core tenants are gone in Infinite, and they wouldn’t confirm the third.
Infinite’s fights are fought two-on-two and without call-in assist attacks, which might make some series fans a bit skeptical. But the move didn’t occur without a lot of consideration. The team at Capcom considered the decision for a long time before settling on two-versus-two for the sake of accessibility. Although frantic combat is core to the series, Director of Production at Capcom Mike Evans wants more casual fans to be able to jump in without being overwhelmed; in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, each player had to choose three characters from an enormous roster, then choose one of three assists for those characters. In Infinite, you’ll only have to select two characters and one Infinity Stone.
That trade comes with its upsides, even for more seasoned players. For one, you can now instantly swap in characters at any time. You can do this mid-combo, similar to Marvel Vs. Capcom 3’s aerial Team Aerial Combos but faster, and available on the ground as well. Capcom hasn’t nailed down specifics about how often players will be able to swap characters this way, but mentioned the goal is to give combos the freeform feel and endless permutations the series is known for. Having two characters makes this system far more manageable, since players will know for sure which character they’ll be swapping into during their combo, instead of having to memorize their team order.
To expand the number of options further, Capcom has removed the old “X-factor” mechanic from Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and replaced it with six Infinity Stones. This not only hints at some of the potential plot points in the game (since the six stones are a nod to the Infinity Gauntlet), but acts as a way to customize your two-person team. The two Infinity Stones we were shown had "power" and "time" abilities. Power seems to increase the potency of each attack and could potentially offer new super abilities while active, while Time allows players to dodge moves and pull off flurries of punches and kicks, increasing combo potential. Each stone will grant one ability that can be activated at any time, and one stronger ability will be more rare (again, the team has yet to work out the specifics of how they will limit this ability). When I brought up Street Fighter V’s V-System as a potential reference point for Infinity Stones, they instead pointed me toward Capcom Vs. SNK 2’s Groove System.
Part of the reason for this new system is an attempt to even the playing field. In the Marvel Vs. Capcom competitive scene, you tend to see a core roster of characters that recur, and many other characters that are left by the wayside. In the game’s early life, some characters were chosen purely for their assist abilities, acting less like actual characters and more like tools. Capcom’s goal with Infinity Stones is for them to work like those throwaway assist characters, making up for the deficiencies of a particular team, enhancing its strong points, and acting a sort of comeback enabler. A Marvel Vs. Capcom game with a balanced roster still sounds like a tall order, but Infinity Stones will hopefully make that task easier.
When I asked them whether the simplified approach to team building also meant fewer buttons to use, Capcom wouldn’t confirm anything. Instead, they told me that they’re hoping to make the game as comfortable to play on a controller as it is on an arcade stick, so newer fans don't feel like they need to purchase the latter to compete.
The last big question for a Marvel Vs. Capcom game is the roster, but Capcom told me at the start of our meeting they wouldn’t be revealing anyone other than the four characters shown in the gameplay trailer shown off at the end of tonight’s Capcom Cup finals (Ryu, Mega Man X, Captain Marvel, and Iron Man). However, they did offer a few details about their direction.
When I asked them about the rumor that the game’s roster would not include as many (or any) characters from the X-Men or Fantastic Four series due film rights issues (the current film series for those franchises are owned by Fox and not Marvel Studios) and would instead favor characters already in the Marvel cinematic universe, Creative Director of Marvel Entertainment Bill Roseman didn’t tense up the way PR folks tend to when you ask them a difficult question. While Marvel wants to take a forward-thinking stance with the characters they include in the game, he wants to make sure fans of all of Marvel properties, including X-Men, were happy. “That heritage is not lost,” he told me. Not the straight answer I was looking for, but it left me hopeful about my chances of Berserker Barraging people as Wolverine next year.
Roseman and Executive Producer at Marvel Games Mike Jones also emphasized that they’re looking at this project the way they have all of their recent projects in games, film, and television (Jones brought up Insomniac’s upcoming Spider-Man game and their current run of well-regarded series on Netflix as a reference point). They want to make sure Infinite’s use of the Marvel license is well-earned, and mentioned the game will have a more expansive, cinematic story mode this time around. “We want to make sure this game is dripping with Marvel,” said Roseman.
I wasn’t able to get my hands on the game itself so I can't speak to how all of the new ideas in Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite come together. That said, the big picture of Infinite sounds like a huge shift for the series. Reducing the character count and removing assists sounds like it could cut down on the flashy, ridiculous fun that has made the series so popular. But while it may not be the comfort food fans are looking for, I prefer that a series known for chaos go for broke when it comes to making changes, rather than play it safe.

Developers talk about why Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is a 2v2 title instead of 3v3, removal of assists, and other topics
During a sit down on stream with a couple of developers for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, a few details were revealed about certain changes to the series' formula. In particular, the change to make it a 2v2 fighter instead of a 3v3 game was to make it feel more team oriented.
The developers felt like having a character selected only as an assist didn't really do someone justice in how they could function in a team. Specifically, it was mentioned that having a character for his/her off the ground assist to help the on point character continue his/her combos didn't really emphasize the team work that well.
Instead of assists, they made it so that tagging in and out with characters can be achieved — even mid combo — to do a better job of emphasizing the teamwork aspect of the characters.
The purpose of the infinity stones was to present a better strategical advantage that a third character isn't able to offer while also emphasizing character identities.
It was mentioned that even if they were to go 4v4 or 5v5, they weren't sure if that was really team work among the characters. With any fighting game, characters are almost always arranged in a tier list if the game offers a good enough competitive experience. This was another reason why the Infinity Stone system was pushed.
It was emphasized that the Marvel vs. Capcom series is meant to be a very character driven game.
The developers felt that the tools that characters were given made it so that some fighters would just always be better than others.
Whether these attributes were power or mobility, they added the Infinity Stone system to help emphasize the characters a little more. If a fighter were lacking a certain attribute, they would hopefully be able to better supplement it with one of the Infinity Stones.
Of course, the players would also be able to strategize on their own with the stones. Maybe they would prefer to supplement a powerful character with even more power with the Infinity Stone that increases power.
They also mentioned that they are spending a great deal of time to make sure that the game is easy to play with both an arcade stick and a controller. The developers want players to feel like that they don't necessarily have to go out and purchase an expensive arcade stick in order to compete at future Capcom Cup events.
They didn't go into detail about how they are going about doing this, but many fans are speculating that it may be a four button game as a result.
It is noted that players don't have to have a great deal of experience with previous entries of the series to be good at Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. This was cited as one of the reasons why the game is called Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite instead of Marvel vs. Capcom 4.
The developers mention that they aren't going to sacrifice depth of the game for the hardcore audience in return for accessibility. Combofiend is said to be heavily involved in the testing process.
The story is said to be a cinematic story about the the first interactions between the two worlds (Marvel and Capcom). If it wasn't already clear from the game's title, this seems to indicate that this game is a reboot of the series.

Morrigan and Captain America Return for Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite Shown in the ESPN 2 broadcast of Capcom Cup 2016, Morrigan and Captain America are confirmed to be returning to fight in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. These MvC veterans are back to fight alongside newcomers Captain Marvel and Megaman X, sporting the same movesets from previous MvC titles. In the extended gameplay trailer, we see Captain America throwing out a Hyper Charging Star and Morrigan using her Darkness Illusion Hyper Combo, so expect to chuck shields and fire off Soul Fists sometime in 2017. There is also a glimpse of one of Megaman X’s Hyper Combos, where he equips the First Armor from the original Megaman X. One can assume that this Hyper Combo will be similar to Arthur’s Golden Armor from Marvel vs Capcom 3, with Megaman X receiving either new moves or buffed stats thanks to this upgrade. As for more information on the nitty gritty of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, make sure to watch this interview from the PlayStation Experience, with Mike Evans and Mike Jones from Capcom and Marvel Studios. According to the interview, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is be the first title to be developed in-house at Capcom USA for over a decade, rather than being outsourced/co-developed with another company like Dimps or Eighting. With Capcom USA seemingly having full developmental control on Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, this should ensure close developer support once MvCI is out there in the wild. Infinity Stone will give you huge comeback mechanics, team hyping up Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's story mode
The Infinity Stone not only will enhance your team in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, but it apparently is part of the game's comeback mechanics as well.
Marvel Games executive producer, Mike Jones, was asked about how the 2v2 system works in the new title.
"We've gone deeper on what the team dynamic means," said Jones. "You're going to be able to free form, change your characters, and make up combos.
"You're also going to be able to choose an Infinity Stone, which augments your team, gives you new abilities, and gives you huge comeback mechanics," he said.
It's been stated that Infinity Stones are similar to having a tertiary fighter in this 2v2 game, something Marvel expressed again.
"So [an Infinity Stone] is almost like a third character," Jones noted. "A stone will augment your characters and give them abilities they didn't previously have." Hyping up story mode
Marvel's team was very energetic when talking about Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's story mode.
"We are personally very excited about the all new story mode," said Jones.
"We haven't shown much of that yet, but there's going to be a full cinematic story mode.
"You're going to see your favorite Marvel and Capcom characters crash into each other and see how they're going to interact," he said. "See unlikely alliances in an all new universe to explore."
Marvel Games creative director, Bill Rosemann, also added a few words.
"Marvel fans always want a story behind the fight," said Rosemann.
"Two heroes or villains fighting is cool, but the question is — why are they colliding?
"[MvCI will have a] big story mode explaining how these worlds come together, and why these characters must fight to the finish," he said.

Hyper screen flash appears slower in PlayStation 4 version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3; this video shows comparison with Xbox 360 A user on YouTube that goes by the name of "Crunchy Maggots" has uploaded a video showcasing lag during hypers for the PlayStation 4 version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. This creates a longer delay compared to the Xbox 360 version. Crunchy Maggots confirmed that this hyper lag was present in the PlayStation Vita version of the game. Unfortunately, Crunchy Maggots mentions that he does not have the PlayStation 3 version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. www.eventhubs.com/images/2016/dec/05/umvc3-difference-between-ps4-and-xbox360/This doesn't appear to be too big of a deal since humans typically react to what's on the screen anyhow. If it does bother you, it's worth mentioning that the Xbox One and PC version of UMvC3 will be coming out March 2017. The Xbox One (and maybe the PC version?) will likely be more similar to the Xbox 360 version of UMvC3. Source: eventhubs

Mega Man X's immense Western popularity got him into Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite's first trailer, devs say roster is almost entirely decided upon
You may have heard by now, but over the weekend a new title in the versus series of games called Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was announced at the PlayStation Experience. The two companies have joined forces once again to answer the question everyone has been asking as of late: When's Mahvel?
Information about the game continues to trickle in, and Famitsu's recent interview with some of the MvCI developers adds to that.
Though the interview was conducted entirely in Japanese, EventHubs' own Nicholas "MajinTenshinhan" Taylor has provided us with the English translation. In it, we learn that Mega Man X's appearance in the game's initial announcement trailer was brought about due to his immense popularity in the west.
Additionally, the devs note that the game's roster is almost entirely figured out, talk further about the game's cinematic story mode, and more.
The developers explained to Famitsu that the reason the game is entitled Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite instead of Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is two-fold - it's partly because they're putting a cinematic story mode into the game which is set to answer the question "Why have the worlds of Marvel and Capcom come together in this game series?", and also because the "Infinity Stones" of Marvel lore play an important part in the game.
But beyond those two reasons, they also wanted to highlight that the game holds infinite possibilities for the players, and thought that making the word "Infinite" the main theme of the game would be fitting. It was also noted that putting a "4" in a game title might make it harder for new players to get into.
Famitsu: By bringing Marvel and Capcom characters together, are there any parts you feel have been strengthened this time around, or any things you've cast aside from previous titles?
Developers: In a way, we've cast aside the entire game system. After doing so, we thought "What is it that makes these games good, exactly?" and decided to use that in developing it from the ground up instead of adding on to what was already there.
Famitsu: How about character choices?
Developers: There are so many characters in the comics and movies that it was pretty difficult.
That said, we can't just use old characters we've already had in, but must look to the future as well. Last time when we were developing the game, the Avengers films hadn't been made yet.
Of course, we also get a lot of requests for "I want this character", so we can't entirely throw the past away, either. Right now, the roster is almost entirely decided upon, though.
The reason we showed off Mega Man X in our first trailer is because of his immense western popularity, and in our surveys he'd been up at the very top. We work hard to honor our fan's requests.
Famitsu: What made you want to develop a cinematic story mode?
Developers: The impact of the Avengers film franchise has been huge. All these heroes operate in the same world. So with that, the expectations for the story grow larger. That's the era we're currently in, I think.
Also, since it's not an arcade game but for home use only, that does a lot, too.
Iron Man and Captain Marvel, who are currently opposed in the comics, are co-operating in our trailer. That should make fans think "What happened between them to bring this about?" and give expectations for the story. Captain Marvel also has an upcoming movie.
Famitsu: Finally, When did this project start?
Developers: We can't give you concrete details about that. However, we've been fine-tuning it for a while now, so please look forward to it.

Rumor - X-Men and Fantastic Four characters are a lock for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite DLC Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite saw it's official reveal over the weekend after a lot of speculation, rumors, and anticipation. Numerous sources reported that the game was real, which obviously turned out to be true, but alongside that rumor was another that said X-Men and Fantastic Four characters would be absent in the crossover fighter due to film rights. This has not yet been confirmed, and a new development may actually confirm the opposite. According to NeoGAF user Ryce -- who has been known to accurately leak information in the past and recently reported on Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's validity before the actual reveal -- took to the forum to share more information about the upcoming title. Ryce's post not only states that X-Men and Fantastic Four characters are going to be playable, but says with certainty that they will join Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite as DLC. Source: eventhubs

Capcom focused on reviving inactive franchises and older IPs
Fans have been anxiously awaiting another installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom series for over five years, and this past weekend we saw the official reveal of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
As companies tend to do with the reveal of a new title, Capcom sent out a press release for MvCI with general information about the 2v2 crossover fighter. Included was a section telling of their current plans, which makes mention of older franchises.
According to the release, Capcom is putting focus on bringing back dormant IPs, as well as releasing major titles within each fiscal year. The section reads: In addition to regular major title releases each fiscal year, Capcom is currently focused on reviving series that have not had new entries recently, or otherwise dormant IP. Beginning with MARVEL VS. CAPCOM: INFINITE, a return for the series following a five-year hiatus, Capcom looks to enhance its corporate value even further by utilizing its library of rich contents.
Naturally, two Capcom series spring to mind.
The Darkstalkers have found most of their recent success appearing in other Capcom titles, with the latest cameo being Morrigan in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. We haven't seen an official addition to the series since Darkstalkers Resurrection back in 2013, which even then was simply a collection of older titles.
Rival Schools has been out of commission for even longer than the spooky combatants, but it's a title that has nearly as much demand from fans.
While the press release doesn't specifically say that Capcom is aiming to revive older fighting game franchises, we can't help but hope to see at least one of our beloved, classic franchises return. And hey, many of us didn't think a new Marvel vs. Capcom title was possible, but here we are...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'[Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite] on day one is going to be feature rich; we're going to release it when it's ready' - devs say they're taking their time
At the PlayStation Experience earlier this month, PlayStation Blog sat down for an interview with Capcom's own Mike Evans and Marvel's Mike Jones to discuss the newly announced versus title, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
Both companies are home to a plethora or highly respected and fan-favorite IPs, and for a crossover title such as MvCI, Marvel and Capcom are putting a heavy emphasis on quality. Jones notes that, going forward, Marvel is looking to bring the level of their games up to that of their feature films, television shows, and comic books.
Evans goes on to say that the specifics of how the game will fully function aren't locked in just yet. The development team is taking their time with the product.
'The game on day one is going to be feature rich," Evans starts. "We're going to release it when it's ready." Evan's statement is likely an allusion to the feedback garnered by the initial launch of Street Fighter 5 -- Capcom's main fighting title out right now -- which hit store shelves lacking some of the modes and content that fans were most looking forward to.
The developers are not only putting work into the overall quality of the versus fighter, but accessibility is high up on their to-do list. Jones explains that the team is putting an emphasis on making sure that the game offers a comfortable playing experience for both arcade stick users and pad players.
"You don't have to have a pro player stick and all the dexterity to do crazy combos," Jones said. "We want people to just be able to pick up and play."
From what we've seen so far, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite looks promising. And the fact that the development team back in Japan consists of several creators who worked on the versus series titles of the past is encouraging.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is slated for a 2017 release.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite has devs from prior entries in Vs. series working on the new title
If you think fighting games can be extremely challenging to balance properly, you're not mistaken.
Capcom was asked if they're biting off more than they can chew in regards to balancing Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.
"We talk about that all of the time," said Mike Jones, an executive producer at Marvel Games. "What's awesome though is we have some of the original developers, that worked on the earliest Marvel fighting games at Capcom in Japan, now working on this newest iteration," he stated.
Capcom has a storied history of fighting game development, and some of the team members who worked on titles like MvC2, XvSF, and others are still with the company.
"[We have] some of the original visionaries, who kind of came up with the crazy, bombastic and dynamic gameplay, that was originally featured in X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes and all of the Vs. series [games] from there," Jones said.
"They're now re-imagining and re-envisioning what the future of the franchise is," he noted.
Still, Capcom and Marvel are not taking this task lightly. They freely admit it's going to be a huge challenge, but they feel they have the people in place to do a proper job.
"They're going to have a [monolithic task when doing] tuning, balancing and design — but they're definitely up to the challenge," Jones concluded.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite announcement inbound? Marvel teasing something quite close to PAX South The official Marvel Twitter page appears to be hinting at something interesting. Early this morning, the account sent out a tweet that simply read, "tomorrow." Attached was a "save the date" image telling fans to tune in at 7 a.m. PST / 10 a.m. EST. Since there was no link to a stream or anything of the sort shared, we can only assume that those wanting to know what this mysterious tweet is referring to must check the Twitter page tomorrow morning. Though this could be tied to a movie or comic book announcement, there is a chance that it might be a Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite reveal. Even more so when you consider the fact that PAX South is right around the corner. south.paxsite.com/The large-scale gaming convention is taking place in San Antonio, Texas, kicking off this Friday and running through Sunday. We haven't seen anything new on the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite front since back at the PlayStation Experience in December last year -- when the game was officially unveiled. It feels like we're about due for another announcement. Not only that, but Marvel has shown a heavier involvement in the game's PR as they were on the show floor at PSX alongside Capcom talking with various publications about the upcoming fighter. We won't know what Marvel has up their sleeve until tomorrow morning, but we're hoping it's a new character or two for MvCI. Source: eventhubs
