Cons are definitely growing. Though, they tend to be more mixed content. Even in anime cons, the most popular cosplay characters was Ledgers Joker lol. Your cousin draws too? Guess it runs in the family.

Guess it runs in the family. Well yea, but you are seeing many people dress up as things like Cammy, Mai, DoA stuff, etc. Gaming and comics will generally get more buzz but Japanese stuff isn't that far behind. He's a distant cousin, once removed. He's my mom's cousin actually but he's about my age.

Oh japanese are definitely not behind in gaming. Did you see the reaction Final Fantasy 7 Remake got? It had over 3000 comments alone on ign and tons of reaction videos youtube. I would be crazy if I included japanese games in the unpopular category.

They're a core part of that for sure. That's another thing I was trying to say. Japan is much more core to gaming then anything else in popculture.

You mean with gaming? Oh, yeah. Even though it's in a slump. It's definitely mainstream.

Yeah, but I dunno if comics will become as niche as Japanese Games and anime/manga has become.

Wasn't implying they're mainstream, just bigger than manga here. Yeah, Japan is a huge domestic market in and of itself. So, it doesn't focus as much on globalizing it's products because it can afford not to. I remember you saying that Japan is mostly niche anyway.

Comics have gone up and down like Anime/Manga has but they are both bigger than they were in the past. DnD has western roots and it's less popular than anime/manga.

Well, comparing current comics sales to current manga sales in the states. I think Comics are bigger and I think in general comics have always been bigger and will continue to remain bigger sales wise in North America. But, I remember you mentioning sales =/= to popularity.
I think sales wise Comics do better, but Manga gets more talk. It has very vocal fandom.

Manga is very easy to find and read online with no hassle whatsoever. You don't even have to download a torrent and it's quickly available. Look how popular porn is, and who buys that outside of addicts?

Yeah, and comics on the other-hand is very difficult to find and I rarely hear about actually comic book discussions on or offline. What do you think will happen when an industry is popular, but makes no money and has very little exposure off-line. Like porn is?

That's why I was saying it was dead in America. I mean't if we equate sales and advertising to popularity. But, your counter-point was right in that it doesn't necessarily mean that. So, it may or may not be unpopular. That's why I like discussing stuff with you.

I'm sure most see them as kind of the same thing (which they really are honestly).

Maybe the stigma is with advertisers and television broadcast. Because I hear that generally it's not promoted as much in the states in outlets like Comic-con or on Tv. Another theory is that U.S. Companies forced anime out of Tv and Comic-con because they didn't directly profit from them because they didn't own it.
I do hear people say it's creepy porn stuff, but I can't confirm if it's widespread.

Kids like that ninja Naruto crap.

Man, I'm being too vague. My bad, what I mean is after the anime craze faded. Do you think this stuff will remain in the public conscious. I mean turtles is getting a second wind and even when it wasn't I feel it still has more exposure past it's prime.

Okay, then. Now that we're clear, what I was arguing was that I doubt it would get a second win or last in the public consciousness imo.

Then again, I might be wrong since the current fad concerning Japan seems to revolve around it being super wacky and weird.

[ I don't think anime is specifically bad. I mean DBZ is just the mainstream crap, there's so much out there and you're going to get good with bad. It's not so much that it's bad, it's just there aren't much new series that I'm into. This was one of the series I was looking forward too and then this happened. I also don't feel like digging for new series anymore and I have other things to watch like : Arrow [My favorite Tv show] or The Flash. I watch a lot more TV now and have a ton of shows to watch. Back then it used to be all anime.

Tbh, not really. I've been into anime and manga since 98. I was definitely way more into anime and manga despite getting into comics around the millennium. I still watch stuff and have been watching prison school. Hell, I was reading dragonball manga in Japanese. It's not a matter of unfamiliar with the content. Just a matter of prefrence. I'm not even saying one is better than the other, just that right now I rather see x vs y. Finished Fma back in the days.
