This is my first anime review that I've ever bothered to do and I only decided to chime in because: 1] The abysmal state of anime has reached a point where I can no longer keep silent 2] This show is a prime example of why I stopped watching anime. Before I continue, please note that there will be spoilers. Specifically, from movies such as "Battle of The Gods" and "Resurrection of F". If you don't know what those movies are then kindly hit the back button and go watch them as you won't be able to understand my frustrations [assuming you care] plus you will be spoiled. You've been warned, the rest of you please continue reading. ... This show is absolutely garbage and is also absolutely criminal. First and foremost, it's nothing but a filler show. There won't be any new content in the foreseeable future minus reinterpretations of stuff that has happened already. You're probably scratching your head now since based off the news. This show was supposed to be a brand new Dragon ball series. It is, but it seems the new content won't reach us until we've re-digested the old ones. Let me explain, Dragon Ball Super takes place 6 months after the defeat of Majin Boo. but, it takes place before Battle of The Gods. If you haven't put two and two together yet. Let me spell it out for you. This series has no new content...yet. Despite being teased new characters such as: Chanpa [Another God of Destruction like Beerus] and his attendant which looks like a female Whis. Plus the existence of a Multiverse, we have to wade through story arcs the new DBZ movies have covered already before we get there. Furthermore, according to new info we've gotten. Some of the fights that we will be seeing again will be more than one episode: Goku as a Sayain God versus Beerus will be more than one episode. attackofthefanboy.com/news/dragon-ball-super-episodes-3-4-and-5-titles-revealed/If you didn’t know, Dragon Ball Super kind of retells the story from the Battle of Gods movie. Some of these episodes may share the same stories as that movie. However, it will be told via numerous episodes instead of just one movie. So, let me get this straight. We have to watch all the previous movies again, but this time on TV? What was the point of the movies then? What a sham. Don't waste time with this garbage.

So basically they're just milking it then? This is worst than milking because even trash like Dragonball GT had new content. This show is retreads with no new content in the foreseeable future i.e. garbage.

So glad I curbed my anime consumption outside of hentai of course lol! You're into the H-genre then? How do you feel it stacks up to live action? I don't think anime is specifically bad. I mean DBZ is just the mainstream crap, there's so much out there and you're going to get good with bad.

I personal enjoy both, but anime has great fantasy elements. Japanese have great camera work and America has the hottest females with the most variety of women. I can't say I hate anime, I don't. Just that I dislike alot of it and I watch alot of it. I know what I like, but too many bad shows.

In America women will work hard when they're ugly in the sack, whereas the hotter women don't. Foreign women do everything, even when they're hot. Yea but that's the rule for most mainstream things. They're bad and you have to find the good stuff.

It's not for me. I can watch something mediocre and say meh. With anime, I always get a strong reaction. Whether positive or negative. I don't get that with other media where I find most things lukewarm. I'm really sensitive when it comes to anime.

I agree with you and I probably articulated myself wrong. For me, anime is much MORE than media. I can't explain it without being wierd, but it's a *thing* for me. I self-identify with it in a way that's beyond just being entertainment. So, when I talk about it I tend to look for works that affect how I feel. Granted, that doesn't apply to all works, just alot of them. It's something weird that I do, with other media I tend to just pick what I like and ignore everything else. With Japanese stuff, I tend to be over involved with it. I don't hate anime, btw. It's a big part of who I'am which is why I tend to avoid talking about. It's super personal part of me. I dunno if that makes any sense.

I noticed you're really into Japanese culture. Are you a weeaboo? lol, I like your bluntness. Depends how you define weeaboo, I can't get a good definition since everyone has opinions. Give me a checkless of what you think constitutes as being a weeaboo and I'll see if it applies.

Well you obviously like it a lot and you seem to like just about everything about it more than American culture. The women, the entertainment, the mentality of the people, the tradition. It seems like you're almost Japanese deep down.

I don't really like the entertainment more than American stuff. It makes a good alternate, but these days I mainly watch American stuff. I'm just more emotionally about it! lol.
But, you're right. I'am in love with Japan. I hope I don't come off as obnoxious like many weeaboos?

Well, I don't have high standards. I liked Man Of Steel alot despite it being just "Okay" as a movie. Now that you mention it, I dunno. I find Hollywood stuff more entertaining but Japanese stuff is more endearing and closer to my heart. I think it's because Japanese stuff helps me blow off stress very easily. Also, it has a much more different "Feel".
It's hard to put in words, but with Western stuff I watch it with everyone else. Get on hype trains and love openly discussing them. But, Japanese stuff I'm more private about and tend to enjoy by myself. Another difference is I usually just watch mainstream american stuff. While my taste in anime is very atypical.

I treat things the same. I can watch almost anything although I wouldn't consider most things "good". I like some popular things and others I don't. Are you more secretive of your like for Japanese things?

There is a stigma, but the problem is just how shitty the fandom is. One of the worst fandoms out there.

]Geek culture is in more now, or do you just not want to be associated with the fans? The sites I linked to talked about this. But, even though "Geek" culture is big now. The monogeek culture is really dominated by American and to a lesser extent British geek culture. Even though, Japan has a large geek culture. It's generally outside the Geek-Chic wave, at best it proceeded it. But it has long since faded. Anime is now creepy border-line porn cartoons that weird people watch. It's definitely not Chic. The fandom generally skews young and has a high turnover rate. It's hard to find older fans...So, there's generally alot of stupidity. It's right up there with furries and Pony fandom.

Well the culture includes aspects of American and Japanese culture. You still have tons of Japanese influence in games and the media associated with it. DBZ is of course taking off in popularity again. You have stuff like Naruto, Cowboy Bebop, One Piece, and of course Street Fighter is more popular and influential than the western fighters. You also have Smash. Card games have a Japanese influence. It's just that American comics are handled differently than Manga. Comics use the same characters over and over again for decades, while you have a far higher quantity of manga out there that people don't know about, myself included). American geek media is big in the movies, but the mainstream don't read comics and manga that much anyways, but it is more accepted. Geek is geek really. It also extends to technology, entertainment devices, and apps as well. The vast majority of people won't care if you enjoy it and even people in Hollywood have a lot of nerd hobbies. I see and hear about more people going to comic cons and anime conventions (although I still haven't gone). Personally I wouldn't let it stop me from enjoying it even if it were hated. I mean we have political and economic views that are against the norm (especially for black people) but I wouldn't pretend like I didn't have them. Not worth it to me I guess.

Well, fandoms in general suck so I don't blame anime in general. I personally prefer western media, but Japanese tend to do things we westerners don't do well: Fighting games for example. I use it to fill the gaps that aren't filled by us.
Reading some of the stuff I said above, I most have been drunk lol. All I was trying to say was that I do like Japanese stuff, but I primarily do American. Japanese stuff is more like a sub.

Fair enough. I just thought if you liked anime I wouldn't quit watching it because of a stigma. At most I took a break but back then I was really susceptible to peer pressure. Especially, when I used to do versus debates. I'm alot more self motivated now. It's one of the reason I decided to learn japanese in the first place. So. I don't have to rely on translation. Especially, bad fan translations.
