Rumors circulating say Injustice 2 announcement expected around E3 next month
French website Gameblog released an interesting article yesterday claiming that Injustice 2 would be announced in June either at E3 or in the days before it.
Things don't stop at just an announcement date however, as Gameblog claims the title will be released in May of 2017. If true, that would give NetherRealm Studios a good chunk of time to further their development of Mortal Kombat XL with a possible Kombat Pack 3 should they choose to do so.
NetherRealm's Creative Director, Ed Boon, has teased fans of the series with the possibility of a sequel for some time, sending out fairly particular messages on his Twitter like the one below:
In an interview with the late GameTrailers back in 2012 Boon said in regards to Injustice, "We're really kind of defining this new game. We're hoping that this is going to be a franchise and have a series of games."
Seeing the success of the first Injustice combined with the boom in popularity of superhero films in our current culture, it doesn't take too much of a stretch of the imagination to see NRS doing a sequel.
We'll surely be keeping a keen ear out come E3 week, but in the meantime we'd like to know if you're hoping for an Injustice 2.

Samsung to release Injustice: Gods Among Us themed S7 phone; Is this another hint at a sequel?
Samsung is releasing a special, Injustice: Gods Among Us themed Galaxy S7 Edge soon.
The sleek new mobile phone features a golden Batman symbol on the back, an on-screen dial pad that seems to resemble the caped crusader's armor design, and more. It also seems to come equipped with the Injustice: Gods Among Us mobile game pre-installed.
What's interesting about this themed product is the fact that it's promoting an app that was a little over three years ago. Generally speaking, products such as these tend to coincide with upcoming releases.
As of late, rumors about an Injustice 2 have been circulating. From what we've heard, the game will be announced during or close to E3 this year and will see an official release in May 2017.
These are just rumors, of course, but it is certainly peculiar that Samsung is releasing an Injustice-themed phone so close to E3. According to the official Samsung website, the new S7 will be available on June 13th, 2016.

Ed Boon's Twitter drops even more hints at Injustice sequel
While we still haven't received an official announcement yet, a sequel to 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us is looking more and more imminent by the day.
We've already seen an unoffical claim that says the title will be announced at E3 this year, and is expected to be released by May of 2017. Intrigue was further piqued when we caught wind of Samsung's upcoming Injustice-themed phone.
On top of all this, NetherRealm Studios' Ed Boon has been continuously teasing fans, as he's very apt to do, with his recent Twitter activity. The director of the first Injustice has changed his profile picture to the "II" you saw in this story's banner, and has paired it with some curious comments.
Boon also recently posted a few DC related images and topics, all the more promoting the idea that NRS has DC on the brain.

Ed Boon teases community with new cryptic image on Twitter
NetherRealm Studio's Creative Director is back with another troll-riffic tease of what we presume to be some upcoming fighting game character's foot.
Boon posted the image below on his Twitter along with the caption "Oh Geez.....not the boots again! "
Nothing all that spectacular in and of itself, but Boon is notorious for dropping hints at new content in the manner of cryptic images and word plays.
With E3 just around the corner, the two biggest leads we have in mind are Injustice 2 or content for a third Mortal Kombat XL Kombat Pack.

Injustice 2 Promo Poster Leaks Ahead of E3
Initially leaked on Twitter in a grainy screenshot by CollapseControl, before being corroborated by notable leakers shinobi602, Nibellion and then reported on by Polygon, it seems that Injustice 2 is going to be revealed at E3 next week. The poster shows Batman and the Flash readying for battle with the tagline “Every Battle Defines You” underneath. The posters, according to Polygon, are part of a pre-order scheme for NetherRealm’s comic book fighter, with those who pre-order the game receiving the poster while stocks last.
GameStop stores will be receiving these posters in the near future, probably over the course of the next week when Injustice 2 is officially announced. There have been plenty of rumors circling the web, not helped by Ed Boon changing his profile picture to the Roman numeral for 2, but this seems like the first concrete Injustice 2 leak. Eurogamer has also confirmed the leak, stating that “[their] own sources tell [them] the game is real and is set for an announcement later this week,” suggesting that Injustice 2 may actually be revealed ahead of E3. Ed Boon himself has tweeted about this leak, striking GameStop off his party invitation list, basically confirming that this poster is the real deal.
The poster has no indication of what systems we’ll see Injustice 2 playable on, but it is safe to assume it will be coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Injustice 2 announcement trailer released, set for 2017 on PS4 and Xbox One, Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd also confirmed as characters
After yesterday's surprise reveal at Injustice 2 being an actual project, the InjusticeGame YouTube channel has graced us with something very special indeed - an announcement trailer.
You can find some screengrabs from the trailers revealing four veteran characters from the last game, as well as one brand new entrant (who happens to me in my personal top 3 of DC characters, by the way) right here.
In addition to this, Warner Bros. also sent out a press release which said that the game will be released for PlayStation 4 and XBox One in 2017. Below, you can find part of the press release, which also confirms two more playable characters.
Injustice 2 offers the latest DC fighting game experience that expands on the previous title’s larger-than-life showdowns. Every battle defines you in a game where players personalize iconic DC characters with unique and powerful gear earned throughout the game. For the first time gamers can take control of how their characters look, fight and develop across a variety of game modes.
Injustice 2 continues the epic cinematic story introduced in Injustice: Gods Among Us as Batman and his allies work towards putting the pieces of society back together while struggling against those who want to restore Superman’s regime. In the midst of the chaos, a new threat appears that will put Earth’s existence at risk.
Players can play from the biggest DC roster ever offered in a fighting game, from classic fan favorites such as Batman, Superman, Supergirl and Aquaman, to astonishing new villains like Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd. Battles will take place across arenas that have evolved in scale and span across iconic locations such as Metropolis, Gotham City and Atlantis.

Injustice 2 will have 'RPG-like' Gear System encouraging character customization, each match rewards players with loot drop
The next blockbuster title from NetherRealm Studios, Injustice 2, was revealed in an official capacity earlier this morning. The announcement trailer showcased heroes donning various armored suits, and we now know that this wasn't a simple cosmetic addition to spice up the trailer.
NetherRealm Studios' Community Manager, Tyler Lansdown, shared more details about the upcoming Injustice: Gods Among Us sequel with PlayStation Blog. He notes that in addition to new characters and environments, we'll also be seeing a new "Gear System" that allows players to customize their fighters how they see fit.
This new facet will incorporate RPG-like mechanics, rewarding players with loot drops after each match. Customization not only changes the look of the fighter, but will power up your hero or villain and change the strategy and approach used in battle.
“In Injustice 2, we are introducing new features that will change the way fans play fighting games,” Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios, explained. “We’re always interested in pushing the genre forward and allowing players to customize and level-up their favorite DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains is a significant leap.”
According to Lansdown, the process of gearing up will ultimately lead to a roster of characters that can be vastly different than anyone else's. Not long into your Injustice 2 experience, you'll find that your fighter of choice looks and plays differently than those you encounter in battle.
We can also expect to see a higher level of environmental interactions and destruction, as well as the continuation of the Injustice story.

Ed Boon asks the community to vote on potential Injustice 2 character: Swamp Thing, Captain Cold or Blue Beetle?
The cats out of the bag as far as Injustice 2, as we learned that the game is officially in development earlier today.
Given the game's 2017 release, we'd be willing to bet the roster isn't quite filled out at this point. DC Comics has more than a few heros and villains to choose from, and it'll certainly be interesting to find who NetherRealm Studios ends up going with this time around.
NRS' Creative Director, Ed Boon, took to Twitter today to poll fans on who they'd like to see on the roster between three of DC's more obscure characters. Hit the jump to see his poll and toss in your own two cents. Looks like we'll potentially getting one of the following characters in Injustice 2: Blue Beetle, Captain Cold or Swamp Thing.
My personal favorite? I have to go with the obvious choice and say Swamp Thing, but if you'd prefer postal Ice Climbers or a pill-popping blue bug, then by all means... cast your vote below. Let us know who you picked and why in the comments.

First-ever Injustice 2 gameplay to debut during ESL Mortal Kombat X finals this weekend
The ESL Mortal Kombat X season 3 finals are scheduled to take place this Saturday in Burbank, California. Those looking to watch some of the best MKX players duke it out for $200,000 in cash prizes have more than enough reason to tune in already.
en.pro.eslgaming.com/mkx/proleague/ However, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios, Ed Boon, has added even more incentive to watch the stream. According to a recent tweet, viewers can expect to see the debut of Injustice 2's gameplay at 5 p.m. PDT during the finals.
Early yesterday morning, NetherRealm Studios released the Injustice 2 announcement trailer, confirming the game's existence after a string of rumors leading up to the reveal hit the internet.
The sequel to 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us will feature new stages, an "RPG-like" Gear System, and characters such as Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Aquaman, Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd.

Heres an Eventhubs Roundtable discussion:
Injustice 2's Gear System has fans worried about game balance; will it end up like Street Fighter X Tekken's gems? Let's discuss
With the official reveal of Injustice 2, we learned that the game will feature an "RPG-like" Gear System. Essentially, players will be able to score loot for playing matches, and equip their fighters with items to make them stronger.
It was noted that this customization will change the strategy and approach used in battle, leaving fans concerned about the game's balance. Many were quick to compare Injustice 2's Gear System to the gems found in Street Fighter X Tekken -- a system that wasn't very well received by the fans.
So, a handful of us here at EventHubs decided to share our thoughts on the matter, addressing some of the concerns we've seen brought up so far.
What do you think of Injustice 2's customization options and the fact that they change how the game is played?
Steven a.k.a. DreamKing: Character customization that actually affects gameplay is... very risky, in my opinion. It feels as though it can be difficult enough to properly balance a game with just a core roster of characters, but adding in external factors like armor and possibly even weapons that alter how a character plays seems damn near impossible.
Having said that, NetherRealm Studios has done an excellent job with Mortal Kombat X's variation system -- another instance where game balance seemed unlikely. We'll have to learn more about how these customization options work before we can make any real judgement, but right now it does concern me a bit.
Nick a.k.a. MajinTenshinhan: I feel like traditionally, customizations like these haven't worked out too well when it comes to fighting games. NetherRealm has been really good at making games that are great for a casual crowd and competitively viable, though, so I imagine they've been very careful in how they go about these kinds of things.
I'm going to withhold judgment until we see more of it in action, and get a better understanding for just how this system is going to work, but I'm leaning more towards pessimist than optimist at the moment.
Tony a.k.a GrumbleBundle: Honestly, this feels like a really risky move. Granted, I'm all for aesthetic customization options, especially if it gives players incentive to pick up the controller on a regular basis, but having a direct effect on gameplay is iffy.
Hearing about this, I'm hoping it's something like Soul Calibur 4's special versus mode. If the "RPG-like mechanics" are set up moreso for a fun diversion, rather than the main way the game is played, then things should turn out alright.
John a.k.a. Velociraptor: Oh noes! Gems and pay 2 play (win) customization! <-- That's what I'm expecting to be hearing over the next year as we prepare for Injustice 2. Hey, mobile games that follow this model are insanely popular, so I wouldn't fault NRS too much if they indeed went this route.
That said, I think it's much too early to be putting this game in a box already. If you think for a second that NRS hasn't done their research on their competition, and knows how Cross Tekken's gem system flopped with players, you're wrong.
It's a fairly new venture, and yeah it might suck. Might be amazing though! We won't know until we actually get our hands on it and play it for a month or two. Until then, I think we should talk more about what NRS can do to maintain game balance and stray away from unfair situations, you know?
What can NRS do to maintain game balance and stray away from unfair situations?
Nick a.k.a. MajinTenshinhan: I guess the most central part is to make sure no character can get an inherent advantage that other characters can not obtain, though that goes against the whole philosophy they had of making everyone's character unique, since the opponent will then always be able to "match" you after all.
NetherRealm are definitely not shy when it comes to patching things, so I imagine if things turn out to be heavily imbalanced it will be resolved relatively swiftly. I just hope this system doesn't give them too much trouble. I know that's not a headache I'd like to have.
John a.k.a. Velociraptor: It's a lot of work, and extra dangerous, to give your characters enhancements, but it's not impossible to do so and still have a balanced game.
We've seen variations in Mortal Kombat X, we've seen enhanced modes in Street Fighter 5 and both of those titles have been overall successes with these in-game character manipulations.
Make the enhancements very small is my opinion. When you're dealing with superheros, the inclination is to want to make them as a amazing as they are in the comics. Don't give Flash the ability to triple his movement speed, or Superman the ability to fly... please don't let Superman fly.
I very much want to hear what NRS' ideas are before we start spit balling. It's nice to have some frame of reference before we begin tearing at each others' throats about it. There are so many ways they could go at this point.
Steven a.k.a DreamKing: At a glance, I think the only way they can really keep things fair is by having a standard mode and a separate custom mode, similar to Super Smash Bros. Based on what we learned yesterday, it certainly doesn't seem like that will be the case and that equipped items will be baked into the regular gameplay system.
In Skullgirls, players are given the choice between one to three character teams, with their health and strength being altered depending on the number you choose -- if you have only one fighter, your stats are increased in order to combat a three player team. Perhaps NRS can implement something along those same lines, making it so that players without items get a stat boost against those with items to even things out a bit more.
Tony a.k.a GrumbleBundle: If there's no game-specific mode for the character customizations, the easy way to handle things would be to provide an option to turn off the stat changes.
Alternatively, NRS could employ a method similar to post-patch Street Fighter x Tekken that offer pre-made armor sets easily accessible at the character select screen to make things work.

Captain Cold's gun, Harley Quinn's hammer, Doctor Fate's mask and more - check out these Injustice 2 teasers
Netherrealm Studios has a bit of a history when it comes to leaving fans little hints about upcoming content. For Injustice 2, the teasers appear to already be upon us.
Injustice 2's announcement trailer made it easy to get hyped about armor, returning heroes, and Supergirl, but a closer look at the trailer reveals a possible hint at something more.
For a brief moment just before any of the superheroes are featured, we get a glimpse of what appears to be Captain Cold's gun. Ed Boon ran a Twitter poll the same day as the trailer dropped, and curiously enough, Captain Cold's name appears on the list.
Beyond the trailer, there are more hints to be found. A post appeared yesterday on the ESL Mortal Kombat Twitter account to highlight a t-shirt that they will be giving away at the Season 3 finals this weekend.
Not only does the gun appear again, but here we also have Doctor Fate's mask, Harley Quinn's hammer, and a couple of other notable belongings of famed DC characters.
The ESL season 3 finals will also be the first time we get a chance to see the game in action. It will certainly be interesting to see how things unfold over the weekend.

Supergirl stealing a page out of Scorpion's book? IGN breaks down the Injustice 2 gameplay trailer to point out details you may have missed
Destin and Vince of IGN are now showing the trailer in their Rewind Theater, breaking it down and pointing out a handful of details that were easily overlooked amidst the hype of the reveal.
After taking a closer look, the attendees of Rewind Theater are fairly convinced Captain Cold will be in the game, and that Black Manta will not likely be a playable member of the roster.
They also deduce that Injustice 2's story will likely take place after the death of Lois Lane, the tragic event that served as a catalyst for much of the first game's story.

Injustice 2 models spotted in mobile game
It appears some of the character models for Injustice 2 have been spotted in the original mobile Injustice app.
The mobile game has been updated to include special Superman and Aquaman Injustice 2 packs. Given that they're on mobile, they're a little lower in quality than what we've seen for the upcoming Injustice 2 thus far.
