Haha, even the wholesome Nintendo has to resort to fanservice. It's cool though, I chose Samus as a background for a reason.

Compared to other characters this is nothing, but it is funny to see her get skimpier and skimpier.

Can't wait for the storm of white knights lol.

She did wear something similar in the very old NES game which you needed a code to unlock.

Samus is nothing compared to say Cammy or anything like that, but then again Nintendo is supposed to have a "wholesome" image. Times are tough though. The tougher times get the less clothes she will wear lol.

Look at Samus' movelist. Tell me if it REMOVELY feels like Samus from the Metroid games.

Samus is a character who has been poorly represented through the history of Smash Bros (in my opinion), The biggest problem I have is that Samus has intricate beam system in her games, but next to none of it made it into Smash. Her standby plasma beam could be used to give a burn effect, do extra damage and have reduced knockback and range. Her good ol' ice beam could be used to temporarily freeze an opponent, do 0 damage, require an extra long charge and have minimal range. Her wave beam could do zero knockback and reduced damage, but be able to go through shields / reflectors (without damaging the shielding opponent) so that she can hit multiple opponents. The generic ball that she currently has could have the most knockback for killing.

She has a morph ball, but doesn't use it except to lay bombs. I find it especially baffling that she didn't get her morph ball as her crawl in Brawl. The whole purpose of the morph ball is to reduce Samus' size, which would help her out VS the likes of Fox's and Falco's lasers.

Her suit:
Smash 64 - Super Metroid suit. That's fine, Super Metroid was the latest game at the time.
Smash Melee - Super Metroid suit. A bit iffy, but Melee was probably in development longer than Metroid Prime, so I'll let it slide.
Smash Brawl - fuckity murifeld...WHY is she still in her Super Metroid suit when Prime 1 and 2 have established themselves as absolutely amazing games?!
Smash 4 - M:OM suit. So they refuse to change Samus' suit for Metroid Prime, but they change it for the abomination that is M:OM...goshdangit....

Ever since Zamus came to Brawl, she's been getting tonnes of attention that Samus needed. Zamus is easily the best character in Brawl at the start of the match because she has suit pieces to work with but when they're gone, she's still an excellent contender. Samus is a pretty bad character in Brawl 100% of the time. Now Smash 4 comes along and who's the one that needs attention? Samus. Who's the one who GETS attention? Zamus. Zamus gets a makeover while Samus stays mostly the same.

As it currently stands, Zamus is faster than Samus, has a longer range, can rack up more damage, can kill more easily, she's better in almost every way compared to Samus. I find this to be very weird. In Metroid: Zero Mission, when Samus crash lands and is stuck in only her zero suit, the player feels helpeless. They're unable to damage any of the mere space pirate grunts she's been tearing apart all game and is forced to hide from them until she gets her suit back. Now in Smash, we're all desperate to get her OUT of her suit so she can become better in just about EVERY WAY.

So when I see Zamus getting a complete alternate skin and all of Samus' great suits are just palette swaps, it brings my blood to a boil. Samus' Light suit's chestpiece and more rounded shoulderpads look amazing. Her Fusion Suit has the yellow interior parts of her suit covered with a blue, biological exterior from the Metroid DNA. Her Dark Suit has a very interesting design, with her unique shoulder pieces and the red lights scattered around the front of her suit, along with another different chestpiece. All of these amazing suits are regulated to palette swaps of the Varia suit, while Zamus gets a bikini.

Total bollocks.

Also, the fact that Zamus has rocket shoes bothers me too. I don't care that they're high heels, even if it dumb for athletic maneuvers.

Samus has spent several years training to become one of the most gifted athletes ever. So why in blue blazes does she now need rocket boots to be able to jump as high as the likes of Link?!

Not really. Missles were a big part of Samus' arsenal in Super Metroid, and they didn't even show up in Smash 64. Then again, rolling was DK's only attack in DKC, but he had a slide kick all the way until Smash 4.

Honestly the outfits are really tame, but I think outside of the flesh, there's another reasons the outfits are so popular. It lets you get a look behind the mask. Many people would rather see the beautiful blonde, and not the bulky suit of armor with no personality. Looking at her with the armor, you would never guess it was her underneath. This is good in its own way, but I think people like seeing the actual woman.

From what I see you get to choose between skin tight or sports bra, so you have to different versions of no armor. Unless the outfits grant armor like they do in other fantasy series lol.

I have no problem with her showing skin, they are costumes she's donned in the past. The problem is that Samus (suited) has many beautiful suits of armor, but they're all being regulated to ugly palette swaps. I don't know which Metroids you have played, so I'll link the suits they currently have in Smash 4 and give you her real suits as a comparison

Those aren't half bad looking. I think modern gamers might see her costumes as somewhat "odd" looking compared to what was underneath the armor. Maybe they just see them as somewhat silly and tacky and would rather see the hot babe.

That said they don't seem to have any other chicks who "fill" the role so they gave it to her since she "fills" it so well.
