Those aren't half bad looking. I think modern gamers might see her costumes as somewhat "odd" looking compared to what was underneath the armor. Maybe they just see them as somewhat silly and tacky and would rather see the hot babe. That said they don't seem to have any other chicks who "fill" the role so they gave it to her since she "fills" it so well. The thing is, the 'hot babe' and 'armor' are two completely different character slots now. Hell, Zamus is wearing a skin tight body suit by default, they could have just added sections of flesh colour to where her skin should be revealed. But no, she gets a whole extra model to model her midriff while Samus' legendary suits are just given lazy palette swaps. You see why this is pissing me off now?

So essentially what you wanted was several different looks to her armor?

SOMETHING at least. Samus remained in her Super Metroid outfit since Brawl. Her beam arensal is nowhere to be seen, she can't even aim her charge shot like she can in every Metroid game post-Super Metroid. Morph Ball is severely underutilized, but Zamus needs rocket boots more, clearly.

Zamus is, at the moment, considered to be by far and away the best character in Smash 4 now, and she was already excellent in Brawl. Samus rotted at roughly bottom 30-ish out of a 39 character roster. I think Samus is DEFINITELY more deserving of a makeover.

We can say that at least. My guess is they're focusing on what they feel the fans want the most.

Shame that there are far more fans of Zamus than Samus then... I like both tbh. I don't see what's wrong with Zamus either. People just like her face. Those who didn't grow up with her and see her in the armor probably won't even know she's a female right away or they might find the outfits "dull". So they chose to show the other side of her. Doesn't personally bother me, although I see nothing wrong with the option to choose both.

I've actually written this up a long time ago.
Samus Movelist feels waaay too generic and unfaithful to the games. Only 1 beam type? Her shots should be integral to her game, and these changes should have a dramatic impact on her playstyle
Neutral B (Charge shot) 4 beam types: Plasma, Ice, Wave and Charge (classic)
Plamsa – burn effect, most damage, mediocre range, average knockback
Ice – freezes opponent for a followup attack, 0 damage, longer charge freezes opponent longer, pitiful range
Wave – travels through shields, opponents, reflectors and walls; no knockback; mediocre damage I feel this is one of the most important changes for Samus because she has a large weakness to reflectors, let this beam type overcome that weakness, but have less utility in other scenarios This will also allow Samus to be a threat from many places on the map since it goes through walls
Charge (classic) – no need to explain this one, but this one will have the highest knockback of the 4 beams and the 2nd highest damage behind plasma. Fairly good range as well
Taunt Either have one taunt cycle between beam types Or have each taunt change to a separate beam type
F-Smash
Effects change SLIGHTLY depending on beam type (knockback differences should be slight) Plasma – burn effect, 2% more damage, 2nd highest knockback Wave – electrified effect, 2% less damage, 2nd lowest knockback Ice – freeze EFFECT (not freeze the opponent, but turn their bodies light blue). 3% less damage and lowest knockback Charge (classic) – same as old F-Smash, highest knockback and average damage
Final Smash I’d say she should go into hypermode from Metroid Prime 3 (transformation like Wario-Man / Giga Bowser) Pressing B releases a powerful shot without needing to charge Can fire in quick succession Infinite jumps with screw attack effects Access to all her regular attacks with slight inprovements Large recovery time as she ejects her phazon infected energy tanks Or deathball from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes multiplayer
Cosmetics Why is she only available in M:OM appearance? Let there be models which resemble her Super Metroid, Metroid Prime and Metroid fusion appearances as well, each with their own colours

Also, aiming the beam would be cool, along with having her morph ball as her crawl.

It would be nice though. I don't think that's Zamus' fault though. Maybe they should just touch the game up more and add more detail.

Here's the deal. Zamus was perfectly functional in Brawl. She worked excellently in the engine and was a capable character. Smash 4 is reusing the models of Brawl (and possibly the engine) and updating the textures. So Zamus as a port from Brawl would've been a fine character in Smash 4. But no, they took precious development time and gave her rocket boots and new moves. Precious development time that could have gone towards giving Samus ANY kind of love at all. Here's the caption SAKURAI HIMSELF put underneath the Zero Suit Samus bikini screenshot "Looking at the number of days we have left for development, it would be an impossible task to create this... That's what I told my staff. But thanks to the determination of her female designer, these Zero Suit outfits got completed in time. From the ending of Metroid: Zero Mission, here's Samus in shorts!"
So yes, I DO blame Zamus.
Also, I'm sorry Jack and C Master. I'm fanboying REAL hard right now. It's just that Metroid was (pre-other M) my favourite franchise from Nintendo bar none. It makes me sad to see Samus treated so poorly by Nintendo now.

Those swaps are lazy, they should have given her a different skin. Especially, for her fusion outfit.

They say one thing takes up development time and it's often some other thing they don't want to say. Or they could just be taking the Capcom route and porting everything over to save costs. I guess Samus' TnA was very important to them. The crowd seems to like it.

But hopefully we can agree that Samus could definitely have used a lot of the love they gave Zamus.

It would also be nice if she were actually a good character too, but I'll take what I can get at this point.
Smash 64 - Samus was mocked because she could only manage combos that were about 2 hits long, while everybody could combo from 0% - death Smash Melee - Samus was decent here Smash Brawl - Samus got nerfed pretty harshly Smash 4 - Doesn't look too much better here
Then again, it took them 4 Smash Bros games to realize that DK could roll. Y'know....his ONLY attacking option in the DKC series. Perhaps they'll remember that the Prime series exists in Smash 5. Maybe they might give her the intricate makeover she deserves.

Probably because they feel that giving all of those attacks to a character will make them OP. That said Samus is looking strong, one of the strongest characters right now, armor or not. So it isn't that bad.

We're not going to see eye to eye on this. I'm a Metroid fanboy. If Little Mac gets a jumpsuit as an alt, Zamus gets shorts and a bikini modelled as an alt and Shulk gets underwear, I'm not going to be satisfied unless Samus' other suits are actually modeled to match their actual appearances. Dark Samus is organic, not metallic. Fusion suit's blue section is supposed to be organic, not metallic. Light suit isn't just a white Varia suit, it has its own chestpiece and smooth shoulderpieces. Dark suit should have unique shoulderpieces and red lights decorating the body.

Samus has more attention to her outfits than anybody else, but these characters have palette swaps for their costumes generally. That's how it works in most games. They do what's quick while appealing to people. The only game that is super costume focused is DoA and that game is very visual.
