Next Injustice 2 Character Reveal Set for Thursday, March 2nd
During a recent Injustice Watchtower livestream, NetherRealm Studios Community Specialist Tyler Lansdown mentioned that things would “get crazy” in March, regarding Injustice 2 news. It seems that’s going to begin on Thursday, March 2nd with a new character reveal, according to the official Injustice website.
Last week, we saw the return of Cyborg in Part 1 of the “Shattered Alliances” story trailer. Could we see Green Lantern or Scarecrow (who were leaked in Injustice 2 mobile), or someone else entirely? Perhaps we’ll see the conclusion of “Shattered Alliances” with more information on the title’s narrative?

INJUSTICE 2: WHY VINCE INGENITO LOVE SWAMP THING SO MUCH – IGN FIRST
New modes, sweeping (sometimes gimmicky) changes to the combat system, and shiny new coats of paint are often the broad strokes that sell players on a fighting game sequel, but sometimes – even often – the real joy is in new characters. Injustice 2 is already proving to be a great example of this fact; and of all the characters that have been revealed to this point, none of them exemplify it quite like Swamp Thing does.
In the hours I got to play Injustice 2 during my visit to NetherRealm Studios in Chicago, I could barely pull myself away from ol’ Swampy. The way he plays lines up so well with how he's been portrayed in the comics (here's a great Swamp Thing primer if you're unfamiliar), and his toolset is full of unorthodox moves that come together to form a play style that’s anything but typical. If I had to boil it down I’d say he’s a hybrid zoner/grappler that’s best played reactively, but can become aggressive under the right circumstances. Surface similarities to Injustice 1’s Solomon Grundy are completely superficial; I’ve never really played a character quite like Swamp Thing in a fighting game.
His unique feel doesn’t come from a single move, or a radical central concept either. It stems from subtleties that change how familiar move archetypes are applied. A simple example is his projectile attack, Log Kick. Just like it sounds, he kicks a log across the screen towards his opponent, but this is no Hadouken.
Log kick travels at an odd velocity: it starts out fast, but decelerates as it travels further, until it comes to a stop and falls off into the foreground. It can’t travel the full length of the screen, but the way it loses speed creates the impression that it will stop a lot shorter than it does. It also hits low and causes a knockdown as well, making it highly disruptive to players who want to stand at long range and just blast away at you.
Bio Fission is another way the lumbering guardian of Mother Earth can keep long-range zoners honest. He creates a clone of himself that appear behind his opponent to strike at them. Unlike Supergirl’s teleportation move, Bio Fission is relatively slow, and doesn’t actually reposition you when you use it. The only exception is if you meter-burn it and connect with it, in which case you score a knockdown, and replace your clone. Neat.
Projectiles and teleport-style attacks are staples of NRS games, but neither Log Kick or Bio Fission is of the “do it until your opponent figures it out” variety. They aren’t powerful, safe tools to impose your will with; they have specific use cases for punishing the types of tactics that are typically very strong against big, slow, grappler types, which makes them feel more thoughtful and rewarding to use.
At the end of the day though, Swamp Thing is still a grappler, but unlike others of his kind, he need not rely on getting up in his opponent’s face. His Vine Grab has three variations, the farthest-reaching of which can snag a standing opponent from one step shy of full screen. This nets you a nice chunk of damage, especially if you choose to meter-burn it, and it can even be directed upward to act as an anti-air from about half screen.
This is pretty game-changing for a grappler. Swampy doesn’t need to take insane risks to threaten with his signature grab like, say, Zangief has to in order to land a Spinning Piledriver. Not only that, but the presence of an anti-air version means that the usual method for escaping command grabs (jumping) doesn’t save you from it either.
So he doesn’t need to be in your face to give you a big, mossy hug, but if he is, he has another grab to use altogether. Green Thumb is relatively quick, and has three possible follow ups.
One deals maximum damage and leaves your target in front of you, another sacrifices a little damage for a side switch (great for putting opponents into the corner), and the third does the least damage but leaves the opponent standing. The last one is the most interesting, since it allows you to avoid having to deal with an invincible wake-up move.
These options are all available for the meter-burned version as well, which actually heals Swamp Thing before you execute a follow-up. Green Thumb is fast enough to tick into, like after your opponent blocks a crouching light attack, making it a versatile command grab that allows you to heal and create situations as opposed to inflicting maximum damage.
As you begin to put all the pieces together, you realize that there’s no range at which you can totally ignore Swamp Thing’s options, which is a crazy notion to consider for a grappler. The guessing game that grapplers usually play is being played across almost the entire level, so despite his combo potential being relatively low, he continually rewards defensive players who can make good reads. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a grappler like him, and it’s this outside-the-box approach to character design that really sets Injustice 2 apart from its contemporaries.

Swamp Thing showcases his very threatening range and tools in these 12 minutes of gameplay
Swamp Thing was announced for Injustice 2. Since then, we haven't had the chance to see much gameplay from him outside of his trailer.
IGN has uploaded 12 minutes of matches, all involving Swamp Thing, in Injustice 2. While these matches aren't exactly high level matches, they do reveal quite a bit about Swamp Thing's playstyle.
Based on the matches, Swamp Thing looks like a very mean footsies and mix up based character. It looks like it will be pretty difficult to out-space a skilled Swamp Thing player.
We get a good look at some of Swamp Thing's attacks. He appears to have a multi-hitting move to deal with armored attacks, and an attack that re-stands the opponent so that he doesn't have to deal with pesky invincible wake up attacks.

Stats not applied for ranked matches, no micro-transactions, and more: Here are seven things you need to know about Injustice 2 Gear Injustice 2 fans were treated to the reveal of the game's latest character, Dr. Fate, just this morning. The new information doesn't stop there, however. PlayStation Access recently chatted with Injustice 2 Designer Derek Kirtzic to gather the details on the game's intricate Gear system. Today, we have seven things that you need to know about this feature. At the start, each character comes equipped with three loadouts -- each one having five different gear pieces, two ability slots, and a shader. Everything can be altered to make your favorite character unique, allowing players to change up the stats, techniques, and colors for each fighter. Though Injustice 2 will put a heavy emphasis on earning and equipping Gear, many players will be happy to hear that ranked matches will not be affected by the stat changes. You will still be able to use gear in Ranked Mode, but it will apply strictly cosmetic changes keeping baseline stats for everyone. To learn more about Injustice 2's Gear system, be sure to check out the video below. Source: eventhubs

Next Injustice 2 Watchtower Livestream: March 15th; Will Feature Cheetah and Swamp Thing Breakdowns Following the release of Part 2 of the “Shattered Alliances” trailer series (giving us our first looks at Green Lantern, The Flash, Reverse-Flash, Green Arrow and Captain Cold), NetherRealm Studios is set to keep the hits coming with the next Injustice 2 Watchtower Livestream, taking place next Wednesday, March 15th, at 3:00 PM CST. This stream will once again feature a pair of character breakdowns. The last stream focused on returning veterans Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman; this time the team will be breaking down a pair of the title’s new challengers: specifically Swamp Thing and The Society’s Cheetah. While we’ve already had a brief breakdown of Swamp Thing courtesy of IGN First, we haven’t seen much at all of Barbara Ann Minerva, save for a brief glimpse in the “Here Come The Girls” trailer that unveiled her. However, NRS’s 16-Bit has assured players that she is a “completely different character archetype” from her feline counterpart Catwoman, and may appeal to “players who enjoy command grabs.” You can view posts from NRS’s Instagram, as well as tweets from Community Specialist Tyler Lansdown, about the Watchtower below. http://instagram.com/p/BRbu_ZHglEH http://instagram.com/p/BRcAf7-A04r Source: shoryuken

You can't 'pay to win' in Injustice 2, but you can pay to look good... we mean really good - introducing Source Crystals Lots of Injustice 2 news today as we got a new Firestorm's gameplay trailer as well as character breakdowns for both Swamp Thing and Cheetah. As if that weren't enough, NRS also announced their new game currency, Source Crystals. These are available for purchase via real money, and allow you to further customize your characters' appearances. Source Crystals can only be used to purchase cosmetic adjustments to your fighters, Premiere character Skins and various Shaders for character costumes. They also allow you to apply the visuals of one piece of Gear to another piece. Here's the image of Harley Quinn in various, upgraded costumes that NRS included in their post: Source Crystal FAQ Q - What are Source Crystals and how do I earn them? A - Source Crystals are in-game currency that can be purchased for real money through the PSN and Xbox One stores. They’re used to purchase visuals or time savers for the game only. Q - What can I get with Source Crystals? A - You can purchase Premiere Skins for select characters, Shaders for character costumes, and the ability to take a character to level 20 after you’ve leveled up a character to 20 prior. You can also unlock Transform Gear with Source Crystals allowing you to combine and forge Gear for your characters. Q - Do I have to pay for Source Crystals? A - Yes, real money is used to purchase Source Crystals. Q - What do you mean when you say Source Crystals can save time? A - After you’ve leveled a character up to the max level of 20, you can use Source Crystals to take another character of your choosing to level 20. This can only be done if you already have a character at level 20. Also, some Premiere Skins and Shaders are unlockable in the game via gameplay or if you want to save time, you can purchase them directly with Source Crystals. Q - Do Source Crystals give me an advantage in the game? A - No, Source Crystals will not give you or other players an advantage in the game. They are used for cosmetic options and time saving purposes only. To be clear, we value our community and want to confirm that you cannot “pay to win” in Injustice 2. Q - How much do Source Crystals cost? A - Prices for Source Crystals will be communicated at a later date. Source: eventhubs

Dr. Fate has just about every zoning tool you could want, can lock background interactables and more; Dr. Fate character breakdown
Is your fighting game style to play keep away and frustrate your opponents to no end? Let us introduce you to the character you'll be playing in Inustice 2: Dr. Fate.
This magical fighter rarely uses any physical attacks, but rather pesters, pokes and "pews" his opponents with various magical conjurings from afar. We've nabbed a handful of his attacks to map out a character breakdown for you, and we'll kick things off with his Super:
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/NiceCrispyHabaneroThunBeast
Fate's fireball, (referred to as the "pew" by developers) is a fast-moving beam that recovers quickly and looks incredibly useful for space control. The meter-burn version sees Fate toss three out in quick succession:
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/RudeShakingShieldBabyRage
Not a fan of fast projectiles? Fate also has an orb that slowly moves across the screen. He can spend meter to suspend it, giving his opponent yet another obstacle to worry about when trying to traverse the zoning maze:
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/ChillyPricklyWatercressAllenHuhu
If your opponent decides to halt their forward march, you can pop Fate's healing technique and start regaining your life. Man will this character be frustrating to face:
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/FrigidZealousKumquatTinyFace
Dr. Fate also has the ability to summon trackers to whip at his opponent. They're unblockable, and if he hits his foe with three at once, they'll launch up for a free combination:

Remember all those cool moves we just talked about? Fate's trait buffs them all, and changes the properties of some:
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/EntertainingUninterestedClintDancingBaby
The Injustice series features background objects players can interact with to either quickly traverse the screen or dole out big damage. Fate can deactivate them, thus countering potential ways around his zoning defense:

Next Injustice 2 character reveal scheduled for today; cover of Injustice 2 #1 revealed by IGN After the electrifying return of Black Adam last week as part of the “Shattered Alliances” Part 3 trailer–which focused on Supergirl’s role in the Injustice 2 storyline–we already know when the next challenger is going to step into the ring. Injustice.com was recently updated, revealing that we’ll see another new character reveal tomorrow: Thursday, March 30th. Perhaps we’ll get Shattered Alliances Part 4, focusing on the Society and fully revealing Captain Cold, who we caught a glimpse of in Part 2…? Could Scarecrow fill our hearts with his fear toxin, or will The Joker finally put a smile on our faces? Either way–we’ll find out tomorrow. www.injustice.com/?gclid=CLuB1qyPzdECFYeCswodeZYNRgMarch 28, IGN also revealed the first cover of Injustice 2 #1, by Jim Lee. The sequel game will also be receiving a prequel comic book series like its predecessor, covering the five-year time gap between the two games. Captain Cold and Scarecrow join the Injustice 2 roster, with this new villainous trailer
Casting a spotlight on the villains playable in Injustice 2, NetherRealm have released a new trailer showing off Gorilla Grodd, Bane, Captain Cold and Scarecrow in action. Hinted as a playable character in a previous story trailer, this video shows off the first gameplay footage of Captain Cold, while acting as Scarecrow’s grand debut.
While Gorilla Grodd is roaring in peoples’ faces and Bane is flexing on his opponent, Captain Cold spends this trailer skating around his foes and shooting them with his freeze ray. As you can guess, most of his moves revolve around putting enemies on ice, before unleashing a barrage of blows. His super is quite the display, with Captain Cold skating up a frozen spiral before hurtling to Earth on a massive icicle.
Speaking of villains that will send a chill up your spine, Scarecrow’s design is pretty damn scary. Wielding a huge meat hook, Scarecrow has been taking lessons from Jason as he rips and tears at his adversary. His super is particularly spooky, pulling poor souls into a gas-induced nightmare before slamming them into their own grave.

Injustice 2 Creative Director Ed Boon Teases New Characters in What’s Surely an April Fool’s Day Prank
Ed Boon, creative director of Injustice 2, teased on Twitter today the potential inclusion of two new characters in the upcoming DC fighting game. Unfortunately, those characters just happen to be the Wonder Twins, which means that this is almost certainly instead a joke for April Fool’s Day.
If you’re unaware of just why this would be considered an April Fool’s joke, it’s because the Wonder Twins are widely considered to be some of the lamest superheroes of all time. The Wonder Twins are made up of Zan, the brother, and Jayna, the sister and they were first introduced in the 1970s in the kid-friendly cartoon Super Friends. Their powers activate when they bring their fists together which allows them each to take a different form. Unfortunately, the forms they took were often laughable and proved that their powers were quite pathetic. If you want to get an idea of what I mean, check this video out.
While their inclusion in Injustice 2 almost certainly won’t happen, we did recently get a look at two new characters who will be appearing in the game. In a new trailer released this week, it was announced that Captain Cold and Scarecrow will be joining the sequel’s roster. Also shown off in this new trailer was footage of Gorilla Grodd and Bane, both of who were already previously revealed to be in the game.

Injustice 2’s Catwoman to receive a gameplay breakdown tomorrow, April 3rd
Following the “It’s Good To Be Bad” trailer, which revealed Captain Cold and Scarecrow, the Injustice Twitter account announced that another villain–Catwoman–will be receiving a gameplay breakdown tomorrow, April 3rd. Though we did see glimpses of the Injustice veteran in the “Here Come The Girls” trailer, we’ve yet to see any extended gameplay of the feline jewel thief.
At this time it is unclear if this will be another Watchtower live stream, or a simple trailer on YouTube, similar to ones we’ve seen for Swamp Thing, Supergirl and Black Canary on IGN First. You can view the Tweet, which includes a GIF of Selina’s win pose, below.

Captain Cold, Bane, and The Flash breakdown in Injustice 2
NetherRealm Studios is back with another Injustice 2 Watchtower stream that is set to show off a handful of the game's playable cast.
Over on Twitter, Creative Director at NRS Ed Boon dropped some not so subtle hints at the characters we'll see today. If my hint detectors are functioning properly today, we'll be treated to a breakdown of The Flash, Captain Cold, and Bane during the broadcast.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Captain Cold makes it rain giant ice blocks, sets slippery traps and can freeze you in many ways, get an idea of how he plays with this breakdown
We got to see new gameplay breakdowns for three Injustice 2 characters today, the first of which being the cocky Captain Cold.
We've nabbed a few highlights from the Watchtower stream to give you a general breakdown of how this icy newcomer will play.
Cold's game revolves around zoning, so his basic normals don't appear to be too fast or threatening in and of themselves. Give him some space to work with and you'll be sorry, as Cold's special moves are all about controlling the horizontal space and keeping the opposition at bay.
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/RespectfulAnimatedDragonflyFreakinStinkin
As a trap-heavy zoner, Captain Cold wants to be relatively far away most of the time. He has a standard projectile to pester with, but he can also summon icicles from above that drop at various ranges. Meter burning these will turn them into giant blocks that halt the opponent's horizontal movement altogether:
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/TastyHardAyeayeAllenHuhu
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/DepressedSingleTriangleLitFam
An integral part of playing Cold seems to be making space, and so has an ice wall that he can plant and kick at his foes to push them away. This move also negates multiple projectiles, meaning you probably won't want to get into a fireball war against him.
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/CooperativeFunCougarBCouch
Once he's made space, Cold has a few traps to set for his opponents as they try to get back in. The first of these is an ice puddle (remnant of Sub-Zero ever since Mortal Kombat 2) that makes the opponent stumble, or can fully freeze them when used with meter.
Cold can also send out area of effect orbs that drain foes' health as long they're inside of them. The meter burn versions will freeze you if you hang out in them for an extended period:
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/RelievedSillyPigFutureMan
xhttps://clips.twitch.tv/PerfectSaltyTubersSpicyBoy
Cold's trait has three levels, each of which grant him a different power. The first sees him envelope himself in icicles that deal damage to the opponent just for being close by, including when they're attacking you. The second is very similar to the trap orbs we saw earlier, though this one is larger and slows foes' movement speed.
The third level grants Cold an instant freeze technique that covers the entire screen. As long as the opponent is not blocking, they'll get hit:

This trailer gives us a more in-depth explanation of how gear functions, and also shows off a ton of different loadouts for several different characters. Source: eventhubs

Next Injustice 2 Watchtower streams Today features breakdowns for Gorilla Grodd, Firestorm, & Scarecrow
Following last week’s breakdown of The Flash, Bane, and Captain Cold, as well as the Scarlet Speedster’s official trailer, NetherRealm Studios has announced that the next Watchtower livestream for Injustice 2 will take place this Wednesday, April 12th. Community Specialist Tyler Lansdown already promised us another triple-header, with one of the spotlighted characters being Gorilla Grodd; now we know the names of the other two, courtesy of the Injustice Twitter account.
Joining Grodd for character breakdowns will be his Society compatriot Scarecrow, who was recently revealed in the “It’s Good to be Bad” trailer and Firestorm, who we first saw on UpUpDownDown last month. Aside from Steve “16-Bit” Brownback describing Firestorm as “a far-ranged character who has a lot of good projectiles,” whose Trait is his Nuclear Level (which has three degrees, similar to Bane’s Venom), and Gorilla Grodd being playable in very early builds of the game, we haven’t seen much from this trio–so it should be a very noteworthy stream.
The action kicks off this Wednesday at 3:00 PM CST (1:00 PM PDT) on xhttps://www.twitch.tv/netherrealm. As always, NRS employees will potentially answer your questions on stream if you use #AskTheWatchtower.
